Hello Brightlight! I am just finsishing up my first week on this. It is very helpful. I really didnt realize how many calories i was consuming in a days time. The hardest part for me is in the evenings logging in because of having 3 children and running a farm. I just havent made myself find the time to log everything yet. Last week i done really well exercising but i have a muscular disease and it hit me this weekend and i have been weak since, so the exercise went by the wayside for a couple of days, i feel very much better today and i think i will just stick with walking and some light reps with weights instead of overdoing it. Good Luck to you - keep motivated.
Have a nice day,
mama

This is week 2 for me as well. I stumbled on SparkPeole quite by accident and I have to say "I'm hooked"! Every morning I race down to the computer to spin the wheel and get my points (ha ha). I am certainly more aware at how many calories I was actually eating in a day. The hard part I find is exercising. I don't really like exercising and with 3 children, husband, job etc. finding the time to fit in a walk or whatever it's hard. Oh well, thanks to everyone and SP, I am MOTIVATED!!!!
Have a great day!

Hi JENNYBELL, Motivation is hard, but keep reminding yourself how much better you will feel, how much energy you will have, etc. It turns out, when you feel better, you will care more.
Sparkpoints are a fun silly thing. I haven't figured out if you get a t-shirt or a hat when you get enough points. Not sure, but I just love checking things off and seeing the graphs. Reminds me of getting stars back in elementary school...I always wanted to be the one with straigh As. Stay on the boards. People here are great, and totally supportive. Start with the little goals and see what happens. Every little goal you can achieve is a step, and someone will be on the board to tell you that you did a good job. Good Luck! Dorothy

It's my first day. In the past, I will get motivated for a couple days, and then tell myself I don't care if I lose weight. I am going to try to use Spark as a way to remind myself of my motivatio.n.
Speaking of motivation, what's the deal with Sparkpoints? Do you get anything when you reach a certain point level, or is it just an internal thing?

Welcome! I've also been here about a week, and have already really started to think more about what I eat, and when I eat it. Turns out, constantly eating macaroni and cheese from the pot and sitting on the couch for hours at a time isn't the way to loose weight...hmmm. Anyway, I'm already feeling better. Working on week two and finding that I really need to keep paying attention, but it is getting a little easier - and I'm saving money by taking my lunch to work!
Good luck!

| Shelly, it is definately easier and it gives you a real head start. I jumped right in myself, tracking everything and trying to meet my calorie goals when I started. It wasn't easy for me since I never quite ate enough and all of a sudden I found myself scrambling. But in due time it all worked out.

| STERNENFEE after reading your post, it looks as though I am doing many of the stage 2 things already.... which is good, it will make for a smooth transition and easier to focus on what I need to fine tune.

Hi Mystikraine, i just started this group too. I have a hard time in the midafternoon wanting to start munching away. I live in the middle of nowhere also. I have been trying to do an exercise dvd every morning then getting outside and playing with the kids, biking, walking, basketball, ect., in the evening. I have only lost a lb. this week. I am glad of the tracking, its made me notice have much i consume. I am a healthy eater but i consume alot. I also need to get rid of my middle section, that is where i carry my weight.
Good Luck to you.

Let's see if I can explain the stages... Stage 1 is just to get started. You start out by just tracking the foods that you are eating on a normal day. That way you get a feeling for what you eat, how much you eat and what the nutritional value is. In Stage 2 you will actually start making healthier choices, start excercising and keeping track of your calories. Also you start to drink the 8 cups of water that are recommended. In Stage 3 you will learn to convert the healthy habits you learned in Stage 2 into a new lifestyle, which is essentially what this website is about. I hope this helps... I think I will be starting Stage 3 this weekend.

| I'm pretty sure they don't want you to drop below 1200 calories a day, because your body will go into starvation mode! From the diet overview, it seems that it'll mostly just step up the exercise, but I'm still in the Fast Break so don't quote me on that.

Hi! I was just wondering... Whats the difference between stages 1 2 and 3? Do I still get to eat 1200-1500 cal a day?
Thanks!!

| Thanks for the input. Just tracking my food intake is a huge eye-opener. No wonder I'm not losing weight. I eat healthy enough, just too much. I have gardening to do and an elliptical that I just bought. Here's to less of me!!

Welcome! You don't need gyms or tons of excercise equipment to be more active. If you live in the middle of nowhere, I am sure you have a big garden or tons of outdoor activity possibilities where you can get your cardio workout in. Just take it one day at a time and use the first two weeks to just track what you are normally eating. You will be making healthier choices all by yourself without even thinking about them in no time.

| TREADMILL....this is a great program, it takes weight off slowly so you have less chance of gaining it back. It changes the way you think about eating...........the tools are great, and I hope you enjoy the whole site and program.

| Welcome! I have been part of this for a week now and have dropped 4 lbs! As we all know, the very beginning of weight loss often sees a quick loss, but I am encouraged for the first time in a long time. I needed some help and structure and I find it here...esp. amazing to me is that it is free...very unusual these days. So, enjoy and each day you will feel a little better(and lighter!)...good luck, you can do this....

Hi there! I just started the group, it looks like a great place to be. This will be my first structured and planned lifestyle change. I live in the middle of nowhere - there are no programs of any sort within an hour of my home. I'm looking forward to meeting new people with the same goals I have. I'm finally ready to quit procrastinating and put my health on the top of my priority list.
