| You don't have to be overweight to be out of shape. I'm not overweight infact I'm probably a very good weight but in lousy shape. Just tell them that and maybe that will shut them up! I had my boyfriend be a bit skeptical when I said I joined this site, but I think he was worried I'd go over board and become skin and bones.

I get that also. I have been eating salads or turkey sandwiches with spinach instead of lettuce for 3+ weeks. Every day I get the same comments - "you are going to turn green if you keep eating that much salad" It gets annoying, but I know I am doing it for the right reasons.
Good luck!

| I get strange looks from my co-workers when I tell them that the main part of this "diet" is to change the lifestyle to a much healthier one. They just look at me as if I was crazy... plus they don't seem to think that by watching what I'm eating I can actually lose weight (in additon to excercise of course). They think they're much better off doing their weight watchers until they lost however many pounds they wanted to lose and then go back to the way they ate before.

Hi Thinnerme,
I think that sometimes people don't appreciate the fact that it's just as hard to lose 10 or 20 pounds as it is 100 pounds. It IS a struggle. I think most people complain most about trying to lose that last 10 pounds--not the first 10 pounds.
I think too that when people are improving something about themselves, it makes people with the same imperfection uncomfortable. Maybe, if that person is doing it, there's no reason why I shouldn't be. running out of reasons not to live a healthy lifestyle is like being backed into a corner for some people.
Some people aren't ready yet and I think that's okay. When you know where your support comes from, you can turn to it when you're in need. If your friend decides to start living a donut free lifestyle, you'll already have the tools to support her in that.

hi THINNERMEINKC. i have also had that stuff happen to me. I tend to get really motivated and like to share with my friends or coworkers what i am up to but i get the same thing. So i have learned to keep it to myself, it just gets discouraging after a while. That is how i found the message boards and how great it is to have people to talk to who are in the same frame of mind. I just figure they'll be all ears once i am at my goal and they will think twice then.

I'm not largely overweight. My coworker is a little bit more than what she wants to be, but when I brought up this website, and what I was doing, she felt I was silly and really toned it down with her own complaints about her body. I simply brought up what I was doing, how I was finding out about myself, and we've talked about weight before, usually when she brings it up. When I brought up my struggle, it was really put down quickly. I guess I have to pick who I share this with? I wasn't insinuating she change anything, but she DID open her drawer and show me her powdered donuts stash and say that was her healthy breakfast.
