Amen to that sister. I'm glad that I'm not the only one with a new addiction. SPARKPEOPLE really does rock and when I'm online it makes me feel stronger and it also has a calming effect om me. I'm from Canada too, but living in Florida for a couple of years. I think I can handle it!

I love spending the time logging my food and exercise, and reading articles. I think it helps me stay focused on the positive and not on what I THINK I am missing out on sometimes.

| if you have the luxury of the internet at work, i think this site is well worth the time! yes, getting to it at night, amongst helping with homework, cooking dinner and other nightly chores is a challenge, but when you see the results, you'll be glad you did it.

| Did you notice that you can add your own exercises? If you haven't seen this, here's how to do it: in the fitness tracking window for strength training, select the User Entered Exercise tab,and proceed from there. Also, you can go to the Technical Forum and suggest they add machines to the database. (Presumably you mean Nautilus-type machines?) They do listen--I know a simple suggestion of mine was put into effect. Additions to the database might take longer, but don't give up. And enjoy pumping that iron! It feels good, doesn't it?

| Thanks - the fitness area has both cardio and strength training exercises. the choices for ST are free weights, bands but no machines

| Craftsurf, the lack of machines in the fitness area is probably because they are "strength training" not "cardio." The main focus here is tracking the fat-burning cardio exercises. If you have a heart rate monitor or know the calories you burn, you could manually enter calories burned on the weight machines.

| I just joined. guess I have to figure out how to use the daily tracking system here. I have been using fitday.com. It is currently all set up with my fav lean cuisine and healthy choice and other regular meals. fitday was nice because it had all my exercise listed- just had to pick what I did and for how long. I do not see and weight machines to pick in fitness area.

| If I had trouble getting in enough calories I would just add a piece of cheesecake...however this is probably not what a person should do. Maybe you could add a smoothie or one of those canned health drinks like boost to your diet. Bananas also have quite a few calories and are high in potassium.

| I agree that it takes a little more effort to be healthy. How much easier is it to go through the drive-thru than to plan a healthy meal. Lots, but now that I'm getting used to eating healthy, it's not so bad. I pretty much have the same breakfast and lunch everyday. I don't mind the repitition. I just switched over to SparkPeople from another site, so I have to start from Square 1 in my food log. But I think SP is so much easier to work with, the Groups, etc. are a time-saver. The message boards are truly addictive. So much good information out there. It will take me weeks to read through it. I think the support that is provided by everyone is the key to our success. I've never truly felt like I could succeed until now. I have a long way to go (about 60 more pounds), but I've come a long way (22 pounds off so far). It seems to be slow, but when I checked my progress from a month ago, it's amazing how much I've lost in that time. The lost pounds add up! I'm so happy I found SP.

Me too on calories...............am to have 1200 to 1500 and can just make 1200 most of the time, but usually have to search for a food that keeps my pie chart where it should be. Sometimes it will be walnuts or yogurt or even 1/2 a slice of bread to get to my calories and keep pie chart balanced.....Sometimes I add bran buds and 1/2 an apple, just depends on what catagorie I need to bring up and still get my calories in. Some days I say heck with it and stay at the 1000 or 1100 cal I am sitting at.

Basket313,
It sounds like you're having a hard time eating *enough* calories, right? Wow, I wish I had that problem! But everybody here has some challenge they face around eating.
Have you figured out some ways to make it work better for you? Are you making sure you eat a good breakfast? Maybe adding snacks during the day? If you work at an office, you might want to bring some healthy stuff to work so you can just reach in your desk drawer and pull out something good when snack time or lunch time rolls around.
One thing I've found is that I spent a lot more time logging food the first couple of weeks, but I set up favorites and food groups, so it got a lot easier. It might seem like a lot of work now, but it will become second nature with practice. Anyway, good luck! I hope this is getting easier for you. It usually does with a little time, and I'll bet you'll be pleased with the results. Hang in there!

Thin-to-be, I feel the same as you - this is probably the first time I believe I can reach my goal as well. Spark has an incredible support system - the one thing that all the other good weight loss programs out there are missing.
Happy to meet all of you!

| SAINTMARIE, Thanks for your encouraging words. This site can be addictive but I am really making an effort to be more active in my life. I just need some structure for my weight loss efforts and SP is providing it for me. I am from Prince Rupert BC.

Yep - this takes more time than not trying to be healthy, but the payoff is awesome. This is probably the first time in my life that I honestly believe I will reach my goal! I keep thinking about how I will look next year at this time, or even by this summer!
Tracking food and exercise and reading the message boards is time well spent.

MY BOYFRIEND SAYS THE SAME THING TO ME. THAT I AM HOOKED ON THIS SITE AND JUST LIKE TO CHAT. ITS JUST THAT EVERYTIME HE COMES INTO THE ROOM, ITS WHEN I FINISHED TRACKING....... IF THERE WAS AN EASIER WAY TO DO THIS WITH OUT ALWAYS SPENDING THE TIME ON THE COMPUTER I WOULD DO IT, BUT S.P. IS SO ACCURATE AND ITS LIKE MY DIARY. MY WORKOUT TIME AND COMPUTER TIME IS THE SAME AS HIS video GAME TIME........ WHEN I REACH MY DESIRED WEIGHT, HE IS TAKING ME ON A HOLIDAY. YOUR HUSBAND WONT BE COMPLAINING WHEN HE SEES YOUR HOT, SEXY, NEW BODY THAT YOU ARE WORKING ON.

Tonight my my DH was complaining about how much time I've been spending logging in my food. I told him, "Dieting is like anything else. If you expect to see results, you have to be willing to put in the time & effort."

I agree. And why not prepare meals ahead of time? I usually cook once and eat that meal for dinner, lunch the next day, dinner next day and sometimes lunch the day after that. Or you could freeze it and have it another time. I usually prepare most of my food the night before I need it. I work full time so I pack myself a second breakfast, my lunch, a snack. I have a bowl of cold cereal first thing in the morning and when I get home at night I either cook something or make a quick sandwich, depending on what I have planned for the next day. It is all about planning ahead and making sure you have everything you need.

| You have to sit back and think about what is most important to you. If you really want to lose weight, you will want to make time for it.
|
|

|
| I feel like I have to create time to eat. I'm weighing everything, yet it tells me I'm not eating enough. I've always maintained a 1200 calorie diet, but that's not enough for this program. I don't have tim to eat anymore!!!!
