So glad I read this thread before I went and bought some ff cheese! A recipe I was looking at earlier calls for it, but I will stick with the low fat version!!
Thanks!

I agree! Low fat cheese is ucky. I just eat less of the good cheese. I should say try and eat less.

Kraft ff singles are great for grilled cheese and those sort of things...I had a grilled burger with one slice of ff swiss and it was great!

EWWW...THANKS FOR THE WARNING! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE CHEESE, AND I AGREE, I'D RATHER GO WITH THE LOW-FAT OR FULL-FAT VERSIONS BECAUSE I CAN JUST CUT DOWN THE PORTION SIZE...AND I'D ACTUALLY ENJOY WHAT I'M EATING TOO!

I'm in total agreement here! I'd rather spend the calories on lowfat or even full fat cheese to have good flavor and make it a satisfying meal. Fat free cheese will never be found in my house again!

The only FF cheese I use are the cheese slice singles. They are good on my omelettes and broil well on my tuna melts. As for Cheddar, mozza and cottage cheese I use low-fat.

Last night I was eating alone and really didn't feel like cooking anything special. I had some left over Whole Wheat Penne Rigati and Totito Salsa Con Queso (cheese) from a party we had. I mixed together a 1/2 cup of the pasta with 1 Tbs of the cheese and threw it in the microwave. It tasted great and it was only 140 calories.

Because I was getting creative, I mixed some reduced fat parmasan cheese with spices and I coated my fish dipped in skim milk with it. That was the best fish I ever had. I was very happy with my meal last night and it was under 450 calories and that included tomatos, a cup of fresh strawberries, a glass of milk and jello with whip cream.

You might want to check out the recipe for a low cal Macaroni and Cheese recipe on the Food Network website under the Calorie Commando's show. He also said not to use FF cheese but includes three different cheeses in his revised recipe for mac and cheese and it sure looked yummy!

Grahm Kerr ( The Galloping Gourmet) once said that if you are going to use fat free cheese, you might as well melt the wrapper too because it's pretty much the same.

AMEN! Fat free cheese is EEEEEVVVVIIILLLL, pure evil. I remember watching that show on FoodNetwork, Calorie Commando and he never used fat free because he said there is very little different in calories between fat free and low fat versions and you really need some of the fat and the flavor when are trying to make good food choices.

Lisa -

Thanks for the info. I think I will give the recipe another try with a full or reduced fat cheese.

Hi,

I usually use full fat Emmental, Cheddar and Parmesan Reggiano. For reduced fat cheeses I use partly skimmed mozza when I make pizza because because it has a good spread. I also use light ricotta. Likely because I have never had the full fat version.

When I eat reduced fat hard cheeses it makes me want more. For me eating a one ounce portion of the good stuff is better than eating three or four ounces of the low fat or fat free stuff as it never satisfies me.

You are so right. Fat free cheese is BLAH! Also fat free sour cream. Always better to go with a low-fat vs no-fat version.

Hey all -
I was trying a new low fat macaroni and cheese recipe in my crock pot yesterday and it called for FF cheddar. Now I remember some other posts about how hideous FF cheese is, but I thought it would be different in a crock pot. NOPE - it turned into a globby icky mess of a meal. Next time I'm using low-fat cheese - my lesson has been learned!
