| We travelled by car a lot with our daughter her first year. It is realitively easy to warm a bottle/food in a cup of hot water for tea. Caution, it warms very quickly. Most restaraunts will bring you a plate of crackers, bananas, bread for your baby while everyone is ordering. If they don't offer, ask. Check with the hotel about a crib. (They are usually pack-n-plays) Don't forget your stroller. Don't worry too much about keeping a schedule with naps/bedtimes. You aren't going to be gone forever, so get back on track at home. Enjoy yourself and take lots of pictures.

Just a couple more tips. Don't forget to pack some plastic bags for dirty diapers. I saved bread bags so I didn't have to spend money on ziplocs. Even just the wet one's smell after a while.
I found that at restaurants they love babies and will help you out tremendously. Please remember that their microwaves usually are commercial and don't take as long to heat. Please remember to shake or stir the food to distribute the heat so there are no hot spots. They also always have applesauce, pudding or ice cream for dessert.
Warning about jars of baby food: Don't save it if you feed him out of it. Dipping the spoon into a jar of food puts bacteria in it to grow even if you put it in the fridge. Mold grows in the fridge and so will bacteria in the jar of food. If he doesn't eat a whole jar...spoon some out into another dish and feed him from there. Same with a bottle. Don't make more than he can drink in one sitting. As they suck they also deposit bacteria. If you are going in a car take a little cooler and freeze bottles of water for you to drink and they can keep the other half of the jar of food cold until the next meal. I know this is kinda gross but it is important. I think of it like this...we yell at our boys and hubbys for drinking right out of the jug of milk right??
One more thing...they do make bottle and food jar warmers for the car. They plug into the car outlet and warm a bottle in about 5 minutes. They are pretty inexpensive if you plan on doing alot of travelling and having more kids.
Wow, after all that yucky advice...just have fun and enjoy. Don't stress. You are already prepared just from all the wonderful advice given here and since you will be with family I am sure you will have to share him and they will pass him around.

I always warmed my son's bottle up, he never got a cold one. Also you can microwave it if needed. it only take a few seconds, make sure to take the top off first though. then be sure to test it before letting him have it.
Good luck.

| Thanks for the tips... since I'm a first time mom it didn't even dawn on me that his bottle doesn't actually need to be warmed up but he's so used to getting it and prefers it quite warm. He's not crawlling yet either but by next month who knows and his bottom two front teeth are coming in so hopefully he can eat finger foods and stuff from the table. We are going out to dinner at a loud family type restaurant so the baby will be welcome :) Thanks again for all the advice.

I would think you could ask for a mug of hot water, put half in another empty glass, and put the bottle in the water to warm it if needed. Most jars of baby food you just serve at room temp anyway. Just find a place to sit, and feed your child. Gerber Fruit puffs are a good starting food if he's not on table food just yet. Also my son LOVES The freeze dried fruit snacks. They come in a reseal bag. Apple or Strawberry / banana. SOmetimes you can find corn too. Easy to eat, take with you anywhere, and disolve easy in their mouth.

| Especially bring his favorite toys and understand he may not sleep well the first night being that it isn't his own bed. Just make sure that you have his favorite sleeping items (blanket, teddy, etc.) I would pack a few extra outfits for the trip. Never know what may happen. I think the feeding area will work itself out. At 8 mos. I don't think I always warmed my kids' bottles up.

Most hotels have a sink so you can heat up a bottle in that. Also, there is nothing cuter than an 8mo at a restaurant. Just bring a couple jars of baby food and he'll be good. They should have a high chair for you as well. What I learned with my 4 kids was that the 3rd foods are disgusting and they would rather be eating people food by that point. By 8 months your baby should be able to eat cheereos and breads. He should be able to put food in his mouth mostly by himself. Some of mine were able to eat most foods if I chopped the food into tiny bites. You can get disposable baby spoons, they are great for traveling. Don't forget a change of clothes in the diaper bag as well. Are you traveling by air? If so, bring his car seat, he'll need to sit in that for the flight. That way you'll also have it if you need a rental car or ride with someone. You can rent a crib from a lot of hotels, but if you are able you can bring a portable crib. Don't forget that you'll need to crawl around on the floor of the hotel and make sure that it is baby proof. Look at things from his level...it is amazing what you'll find. And most of all, relax and have fun. There is nothing better than a happy momma.

| In the end of April, when my son will be 8 months old we are taking our first overnight trip to a resort type place with the entire family to celebrate my nephew's 21st birthday. That being said we've never been to a hotel situation with the baby yet and I have questions about going to a restaurant and needing to heat up a bottle...how do I do that? Also we'll be out and I'll need to feed him solid baby food. Anybody have tips on how to do those types of things? This is my first baby and I'm at a loss at how to do these things away from the home environment.
