| I try for the lower to middle end of the calorie range "just in case" I get really, really hungry. Because I'm height challenged (5'3.5"), I'm in the lowest recommended calorie range, anyway. LindaK

Tammy,
The reason we give you ranges is b/c it would be hard to eat exactly the same number of calories each day. Adding flexibility helps you make choices depending on your needs and circumstances for the day, and helps you start to look at this as more of a lifestyle change and less like a restrictive "diet".
Hope that helps!

| I just read the answer earlier tonight. If you go to the bottom of the left hand column on the Resource Center nutrition page, there is an item that tells you how they figure out what your daily calorie range is. It tells you how they arrive at both the top and bottom figure. A range is given because some days you may be a bit high, others a bit low, so it all balances. As long as you're somewhere between the two, you should be losing.

I was "calculated" to need to eat between 1200 to 1550 calories per day to meet my goal. Which amount is THE amount that works? The lower or the higher? Why are we given a "range"
