That I don't drink enough water, I don't eat enough fiber and I drink too much wine.

I'm making improvements in all three

It's nice to go back and see what I had done in the past few days.

I recently gained a pound and went back and looked at my food choices. I noticed that during a 4 day time span I had eaten chicken and brown rice with soy sauce (dinner one night and then 3 days worth of left overs). My sodium was sky high which I hope explains the gain.

After journaling a few days, I have noticed that I'm so used to using the weight watchers Flex Points, that I had sort of lost track of how many calories I eat in a day. It kind of freaks me out when I'm at 900 calories after lunch time! This will be good for me to get "reacquainted" with calorie counts.

I have found that I have stopped eating things I don't want to write down!

well, I can't say anything about "a few days" yet, but just breakfast today was a little eye opener. I actually measured a couple of things I don't usualy think about much and found them, happily, within a reasonable range. So I don't have to totally give up on my tsp or two of sugar in my tea or a small spread of 'Smart Balance' on my toast to make this work... I might be able to do this.

That I am way too hard on myself and focus on everything I do WRONG or to sabotage my weightloss efforts, instead of recognizing the things I do right or the bits of progress I make.

I am working on changing my negative voice to a positive one b/c you need yourself to be your best cheerleader if you're going to see significant change for the better.

since ive started journaling i have found that i eat waaaaay to little at home and then binge when i go out to eat. cause well i figured i was always so good at home so eating out should be a treat so i would order everything i liked. which at my fav german place is like a seven course meal. o_O scary.

now i have really started to pay attention and making sure i take in enough cals at home. before here i would would never believed that eating MORE would help me loose weight but it has. i was totally shocked. before i thought hunger pains and excercise were the only way to weight loss. so no true.

I know this sounds goofy, because who's going to know besides me, but I have found myself not eating a couple of thigs recently, because I didn't want to write them down. Go figure. and for example.

I noticed that I was not drinking near enough water, and that I was low on calcium, fiber and iron. I have made great strides in these areas and with the exercise, I think I am much, much healthier than I was before.

I noticed that I sabotage myself by cooking everything in olive oil and eating too many snacks to "reward" myself for a job well done. Before SP I would welcome myself home with a cup of ice cream, which was usually 2 servings and I would finish off the night with another cup. Thats 4 servings of ice cream a day!!! No wonder I gained 25 pounds since November.

I'm much more conscious of what I put into my body. With suggested limits I have to plan strategically what I'm going to have at each meal that will fill me up. I've become a healthier cook as a result.

Stayingslim, I have always done ww so I kept a journal. I always stayed from the middle to the low end of my points. When I started Spark, I entered in all my ww in and found out that I was only at 700-1000 cal when I should have been at 1200-1500.

I don't follow the Spark diet but have tweeked my ww points. I found that on days where I "slipped up on points" and ate more than I was allowed the scale actually showed less. That should have been the lightening bolt I needed but it wasn't. Sparkpeople was and all of your stories. I was stuck at 138 for 3 weeks then found Sparkpeople and dropped a pound the first week.

Thank you!

Shmoopie:

I too, realized that I wasn't eating enough. I was averaging aroung 1200-1300 calories per day, some days even less. After reading an article about my BMR and my TMR, I SHOULD be eating close to 2000 calories since I exercise almost every day.

After staying that the same weight for so many weeks, I lost a few pounds by upping my caloric intake.

It's insane to me that in order to lose weight, some of us need to eat more. haha!

Yay! For eating more (of the healthy things) and losing pounds to the both of us!!

If you have some pics that are jpegs those work well typically. I am not sure if there is any size limit or if it just shrinks the image down if it is too big. I have lots of 100 X 100 point icons I made for on Live Journal. So I just uploaded one of those images for my image on here. If you know how to find an image and upload it. Or maybe I could try and explain some more of it.

Hey Roka-Girl

Wow, those abs. I used to have abs like that -- a long long time ago. What a motivator! I'm past the age of dressing like that, but I could sure aim for that kind of definition. I need to figure out how you guys get the pictures in there. I'm afraid much of technology just whoooshed right by me. oops!

After journaling for the last past 4 days I realize that I take in way too many empty calories. I didn't realize how many calories are in the simplest things I eat. It is really helping plan my menu for next week. I also realized that I am gradually getting stronger and trying to do this.

Actually, I tend to make these little mini Quiches for me and the kids. I realized as soon as I entered the information into the tracking system that eating more than what I finally decided was a good number was a bad idea. Lukily I hadn't done that in a while even before I found out about SparkPeople. However, at times before I found out about SparkPeople ... if I felt really hungry I would eat more of something than was really a good serving size.

I am glad I am motivated by this program to not do that any more.

I learned how to tweak favorite meals to reduce the calorie/fat content by seeing what the recipe looks like added to my nutrition tracker. I also have been getting more fiber by monitoring that nutrient. Even eating 5-7 servings of dense veggies a day it can be hard to hit 25 g fiber!

I'll also ditto the educated trade-offs comment. I know what certain food decisions "cost" and can choose to make them, or to adjust my exercise to accomodate.

Like Schmoopie I found some days I was WAY below the suggested calorie count. I suspect I've been making up for it (before SP) with sugary binges. Also not enough calcium or protein. wj

I realized that even though I drink plenty of water, it wasn't 8 glasses per day. And even though I drink water instead of sodas, I'm REALLY craving a diet coke right now (it's one of my goals to not have soda for these first two weeks).

On the plus side, since I'm counting all the calories, I can make educated tradeoffs...like if I really wanted a glass of wine with dinner (a really small glass), then I need to eat an ounce less meat or something like that. It makes me really have to want that wine to give up the meat (or whatever).

I realized I wasn't eating enough. I overestimated how much I was eating! lol Also, by taking into account the calories burned during the week, I realized I was really not eating enough. I lost 3 pounds after upping my calories! yay!

I also noticed my Vitamin D and calcium are always too low. I'm trying to change that by adding some low fat yogurt, but I also started taking calcium + vitamin D supplements to be safe :)

On the positive side, I was pleased to see my sodium was within a healthy range, as were saturated fats etc and fiber :)

I realized how long I would wait between meals sometimes 6 - 8 hrs. Now I am taking snacks with me in the car.

For food trends, I get way too little calcium (around 20 instead of the 100) so I will need to suppliment. I will have to take a closer look to see what else is going on.

For general miscallenia, I've noticed that exercise improves my mood and deminishes my desire to eat out my emotions.

After a month of what I thought was eating right, I started tracking meals here and discovered the one thing that shot my calorie quota to hell: olive oil. 3T of olive oil (360 calories), every day - yikes! No wonder I wasn't losing any weight. That got remedied real fast. It's an eye-opener, finding out all the "little" things that add up so fast.

Mine was just realizing how much coffee and soda I drank. Good Lord, I was running on pure caffeine.

was their any foods you knew you needed to cut back or remove from your diet? Was there a lot more calories in something than what you realized?

Mine: Coffee-mate. Everymorning I drink a cup of coffee with cinnimon-vanilla coffe-mate. It wasn't just a little bit - my coffee was almost white. I couldn't even taste the coffee. I am trying to cut back to 1 tablespoon (I am eyeballing it right now - will measure during the next phase). What a difference in the calories I have left for the day!

Anyone else?
