I'm fighting some late night munchies. It's nice to know I'm not alone in being hungry. But after reading, I'll just hydrate and go to bed.

Speaking of going to bed, you guys know the three stages of sex in a marriage??

Fife,

Those are all good healthy snacks. Some do have higher sodium, but they're not bad for you. Good ideas!

Thank you for your response. I am doing much better today... I only eat a little bit of Peanut Butter and keep my bread down to 2 slices a day if that - I have looked at the low fat foods and a lot of the times it seems like they have more cal. than the reg. ones just less fat... my fat intake has been good with in the range and all - do you have any suggestions on some of the items you have tried?

I will have to try the Kashi thing that sounds great with that much fiber! - thanks!

I do the fruit thing all the time - sometimes i feel like i'm going to turn into a fruit!

Thank you all so much!

I gotta go with the Kashi Go-Lean Crunchy bars. They're awesome. They taste great, run about 150 calories, and have 5 grams of fiber. You are completely full afterwards. You can get them at health food stores, but they're much cheaper at Target.

This might not make you feel better, but try carbs like brown rice, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta. Their supposed to keep you full, so your not so hungry.

I love my snacks. You have to let me know if they aren't that healthy.

1. oranges - I can eat dozens of these at a time.

2. Dry Roasted Peanuts - but these are really high in everything on the meal planner...but they are good.

3. V8 Juice - sometimes low sodium or sometimes regular

4. Salsa right out of the jar. My favorite is any kind of peach salsa.

I ususally stay away from bread products due to the whole high carb scare of my youth.

You're definitely eating healthy foods, unfortunately a few of those foods are very high in calories as well. Peanut Butter and whole wheat bread are both high in calories. I found early on to find foods that are healthy but low in calories as well. LOTS of veggies, smaller pieces of bread, and a lot of fat free items.

I'm fighting high BP, and limiting sodium is critical for me.

Also, I don't follow the SP menu planner but I display their suggestions. It has lots of surprises in regard to nutritious, filling food that isn't too high in calories. And you don't have to stick to "rabbit food" (e.g., a plain baked potato is about 140 calories), although salad and cantaloupe are especially low in calories. But as Josh points out, a little fat (from cheese, peanut butter, etc.) can really help turn off the appetite switch.

Drinking lots of water helps keep my appetite tamed, and at the end of a meal makes me feel sated.

If worse comes to worse, I tell myself that the feeling of hunger is the pounds coming off. Thankfully I don't have to do this very often.

Cheers,

Bob

Well I usually eat a Tangerine for a snack. Very sweet and only 50 calories. I eat one in between breakfast and lunch. After work on the drive home I either eat one of those 100 calorie packs or a nutri-grain bar. I worry alot about eatting to many carbs

I have really been liking reduced fat Triscuits. However, if I eat them alone, I'm hungry again 20 minutes later. But, if I eat them with a little cheese, that really does it for me...about 200 calories for a very filling snack.

Okay my 2 cents too. Try to ensure you have some fat in each meal especially breakfast. Why? because as I've found out the hard way carbo's make you fill full right now fat makes you feel full till the next meal. I am unsure of the percentages Sparkpeople actually recommends but even a little bit will help a lot (dollop of yogurt on the cereal perhaps).

Not going to go in to scientific reasons why but a little fat will help keep you going longer than just carbohydrates and atleast in my experience that is true.

Hi, couldn't help but put my 2 cents worth in . I would loke to make 2 suggestions on snacks. Both sound a bit weird but try them. 1# Snap Peas. I get them from a health food store here where I live they are crunchy, and have a pretty decent taste. 2# My Wife introduced me to "Nature Vally" brand Yogurt, chewy Granola bars. They sell these everywhere, local grocery, Wal-Mart, and Target Stores. Believe me when I say I hate Yogart. I was really amazed at how great they taste. Try the variety Pack. Comes with 3 flavors, Blueberry Yogart, Strawberry Yogurt, and Vanilla Yogart. Each abr has 140 calories. It is very filling and leaves you with the filling that you ate something very rich and sweet. Please try it for your self. I ahve found "0" breakafst bars that didn't taste like cardboard. let me know what you think.

A trick that works for me is alternating Wheat Thin Crackers and drinking water. I fill up surprisingly fast and I get some whole grain in my diet.

I nibble on roasted, but unsalted, almonds at work. I usually count out about 10 of them and, yes, I do mark that in my nutrition log... it's really not very many calories, it's a quick source of protein and good fat :-)

On the drive home I usually crack open one of those 100 calorie packs (yeah, I know.. very processed) and take my time with those... I purposely try to eat things slowly (little nibbles) or just kind of suck on things for a while...

Sunflower seeds themselves aren't bad for you, but you're right, they are high in sodium. There's the obvious choices such as fruits and veggies. But if they're not readilly available or you're not in the mood, there are lots of options. Pretzels, popcorn, yogurt, whole wheat crackers.

Mostly I would suggest staying away from things with lots of processed sugar. Aside from the calories, the sugar only gives you a short burst of energy and isn't very filling. You will definitely get the hang of this as you get further into the program. The first few days can be the roughest.

I never used to eat breakfast. This morning I just started this program and ate a little cereal to get my metabolism going and boy has it! I need snacks like quick or I'm gonna rip our vending machine apart. What do you guys eat for snacks? I'm thinking some of those cereal bars? Are sunflower seeds ok to eat? They have a lot of salt and my blood pressure is on the border of high so I probably don't want to go that route.
