Gents
I don't want to rub this in, but last Sunday I was hiking in NC in 40 degree temps. Today I'm heading to a nearby state park. The parking lots are generally 50% capacity when I go out in the winter months in NC/SC/GA.
If you layer properly, a vigorous hike can be pretty strenous on the heart. My heart monitors tracks the best workouts over time...the cold weather hikes are the best in my opinion. Of course, my family disagrees with me.

Ha Ha, maybe I'll worry about it when I loose the weight :), me at the moment am well insulated so dont suffer from the effects of cold, spend most of the year in a polo shirt summer winter only concession is to sticking a padded waist coat on when it gets really cold, lol. My wife thinks I'm a walking furnace.

Tom,
I completely understand where you're coming from. It's kind of like a teaser for those who live in cold parts of the country. I think SP just tries to offer something different every day. Since they are still a small company (and don't charge for use) they don't have an unlimited number of articles to use. They also try not to discriminate against anyone. You hit on the point that it is international, so there are people that are enjoying summer right now. Maybe as SP grows they'll be able to taylor the articles to where each member lives.

Hahah... well stated... I , on the other hand look forward to anything outdoors! Even more so in the cold. Being born and raised in upstate NY I suppose thickened the skin. I'm in NC now and im in shorts and flip flops 11 months out of the year easy. I think the neighbors have concluded that I'm out of my mind. We had several inches of snow on the ground last Feb and I was out side showeling the driveway in a sweatshirt, shorts and my flip flops... every neighbor within eye sight was staring out a window at this wackjob...err I mean me! hehe I fnished my driveway and proceeded to hit every driveway that had a spectator in the window :-D Good upper body workout that day for sure!! All the best CJ

While there's nothing wrong with using cookie-cutter templates for articles, the moderators of Sparkpeople might want to watch for things like that being featured on the main page...
There's just something silly about a feature about exercising outside in a park in the middle of February... Sure, Sparkpeople is "international" but I'd wager that a fairly high percentage of the users to Spark are looking for indoor exercise options on February 16th... not outdoor ones...
