I take a regular slice of white bread, spread about a tsp of Brummel & Brown on both sides, and put it on a baking sheet covered in foil. On the face-up side, I sprinkle garlic powder, italian seasonings, red pepper, oregano and a smidge of grated parmesan cheese and bake it @ 350 for about 5 minutes. Pretty easy, pretty healthy.

Hi Lisa,
Remember Susan Powter?...she did all the excersie videos in the 80's. She had a great recipe for a low-fat galic spread with 1 cup low-fat cottage cheese, 1 1/4 cup parmasan cheese and chopped garlic. Mix, spread on bread and toast. It is really good and low fat. If you can't get around the bread at least the topping is low-fat.
Give it a try.

Hi. Just by switching to the 35 calorie White Wheat or Whole Wheat Bread and Brummell & Brown yogurt Butter Spread, will help a lot, while also retaining the flavor you are looking for. 1 Tbsp of Brummell & Brown only has 45 calories & 1/2 the fat of regular margarine or butter. I melt my butter, sprinkle in garlic powder, add some of the chopped garlic, and a pinch of parsley flakes (ground up in my hand) then brush or spoon it onto my bread (one side) and place under the broiler til light brown. This usually will cover 6 slices of bread, so you are only getting 1/6 of the fat & calories found in the spread. Enjoy! Connie

I make the pita chips recipe I found on spark. I'm not sure what it says, but I use a whole wheat pita, split in 4 pieces, spray with "fake butter" (The no fat butter flavored spray - That stuff is really great!), Crack a clove of garlic in my garlic press or just use garlic powder, sprinkle a little parmesan cheese, then stick them under the broiler until the cheese browns and they're crispy.

JLNORDEN,
Yum! I can almost taste it already. It sounds a lot like the bread at Red Lobster, only without all the fat.

These cheddar garlic biscuits are pretty good. Add a little more garlic for a stronger flavor and leave out the cheese if you want to save on some calories. I got this from the Betty Crocker web site. They have lots of recipes you can use Reduced Fat Bisquick for.

Cheese-garlic biscuits
2 cups Reduced Fat Bisquick mix
2/3 cup fat-free (skim) milk
1/2 cup shredded reduced-fat Cheddar cheese (2 ounces)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Butter-flavored cooking spray, (if desired)

1. Heat oven to 450ºF.
2. Mix Bisquick mix, milk, cheese and garlic powder to make a soft dough. Beat vigorously 30 seconds. Drop dough by 10 to 12 spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Spray warm biscuits with cooking spray before removing from cookie sheet. Serve warm.

Under the topic "Alternative to garlic Bread " BRATTYANGEL1974 had a great idea, that sounds really good. She suggested using a whole wheat tortilla and spreading a thin layer of margarine mixed with garlic powder. Then toast it in the oven or toaster oven.

Does anyone have any low cal/low fat ideas for replacing garlic toast with pasta meals? This is my weakness!
