Welcome!

Pastoreddie - are you in Columbus proper or outside? I've lived in Findlay, Lima, and Cinci over a 7 year period (part of Michigans 8-1-1 win streak against the bucks ;) ).

Currently living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Came from a military family, so I was born on a Canadian Forces Base in West Germany... spent most of my childhood bouncing between provinces until university gave me some "stability"...

Became an engineer... so much for "stability"!?!... ;-P...

Joined this site just last week...

My dream vacation ... Australia. Don't know that I'll ever get there, but I've wanted to go since I had a pen pal down under in 6th grade.

Wow,
That is interesting to me. I guess because I grew up in Utah, I never have noticed the difference in elevation, even when returning to visit, I don't notice a difference.

I don't think we'd disagree too much... I'm from Michigan and love the 4 seasons and the winter as well. That honestly is my only grip about Oklahoma... fall is way to short and winter is really crappy (not much snow, a lot of ice, weather bouncing all over the place).

My wife can't handle the elevation is probably the biggest reason I wouldn't want to live there. But I'm also not a skier, so while it is very beautiful, not terribly useful for me.

I guess that's where you and I kindly disagree. I would do anything to get back to the west. I miss the 4 seasons in Utah, particularly the winter. Sounds crazy, but I love the cold.

You know, there's also a killer place in the mountains just outside Bristol. Near Bluff City, TN is a little joint called the Ridgewood. We used to cut classes at Appalachian State to go over and chow down. Really different from Lexington and Memphis (Blues City Cafe?). If you're ever over that way you oughta check it out!

Knicholas,

Didn't read your post until after I posted the one to Cobbie. Barbeque in the South is a very sacred event. Yes, its an event, not just throwing a couple of burgers on the grill. Its the love and attention that is given to a pork shoulder, rack of ribs, beef brisket or the lowly chicken. We all claim to have the best in our own little neck of the woods but the real testament to the what's good is just getting out there and trying it all! I travel alot so I frequent the little hole in the wall joints that have a smoker out back. terrible for the diet but its gastronomical nirvana! Anyway, like you said Memphis has some good 'que, never had any but it's in the South so its gotta be good!!!!!

COBBIE1,

Do people freak on you when you tell them about eating a chopped sandwich with barbeque slaw and a side of hushpuppies and a Cheerwine? Man, I'm homesick, or am I hungry? Also, Cheerwine is being distributed all along the east coast now.

Hey everyone,

I'm in Knoxville, TN

I'm originally from Memphis, TN which I consider to be THE place to get good BBQ, but then again everyone is entitled to thier own opinion.

You betcha!! I really miss that hometown "que"! There are a bunch of good ones in that area...Lexington is the center of the bbq universe, as far as I'm concerned!

COBBIE1,

I'm familiar with High Point. I grew up in Lexington. Man, they know how to do barbeque in that part of N.C., don't they? Every time I go home I have to make a trip (or two) to Speedy's on 52.

Howdy folks. I'm new to this whole thing. I'm currently living in Pigeon Forge, TN. I moved here in '97 to work as a musician in a theater but it closed back in December. I'm thinking of moving back to my hometown of High Point, NC or some other town in NC in the near future. I went to school in Boone, NC and Bloomington, IN....lived in Nashville, TN for a while....even worked on a cruise ship in the Carribbean for a while. I need to get home and be around my family again. These mountains are nice but the traffic and tourists can make you a bit crazy!

Beelster - what part of SE Michigan? I grew up in Bedford/Temperance/Lambertville. We were about 500 yds from the Ohio border and about 6 miles from Lake Erie. Doesn't get much more SE than that!

Bob - the windmills you are referring to are in the Tehachapi Mtns east of Bakersfield on the way to Las Vegas. It is an awesome sight and they actually generate quite a bit of electricity. And not to worry, I will keep up the quiltin'. It goes hand in hand with my photography.

Chuck,

My mother has a quilt that her father made when she was just a baby. He was killed in a W.VA coal mine when she was a little girl. That quilt is one of her most cherished possessions! Keep it up.

I've passed through Bakersfield, I think, on my way to Ft. Irwin from Ft. Ord in Monterey. Is that where all the windmills are on the hill? That's an awesome sight to behold!

I live in Bakersfield CA. Have lived in California all my life except a short stint in Texas and Mississippi with the Air Force and a year in Hawaii as a seventh grader. 6 kids, 11 grandkids. My passions are nature photography and quilting (go ahead and laugh, I can handle it!)

Hey guys, It's nice to say that literally and not just as slang!! I haven't got a chance to read where everyone is from, but I'm from NW MN. I'm only about 15 miles from Canada. I originally lived in CA near Sacramento, but this has become my home. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to leave hear soon because there are no jobs.
