| I think it depends on the style of the dress. If there is a lot of design elements where you need to reduce the dress then look at if taking away material etc. will take away from the overall look of the dress. Speak with someone who does alterations to see what is the hardest or easiest adjustments to make. Let them know your problem areas and the style of dress you had in mind. They would be the experts and the best persons to talk to. Be aware that the dress shops may tell you that the alterations would be fine just to make the sale. Speak with an independent alteration expert. Good luck. You'll be beautiful

| you will look gorgeous the day of your wedding no matter how big or small you are! and you should try them on to fit how you look now, because once you are thinner they will still look good on your body...and if you dont for whatever reason lose the weight, then you have a dress that still fits your body type. j

| Most dresses can be taken in to accomodate a 20 pound loss. Tell your bridal salon you are thinking of losing more weight and they will be able to give you an opinion on how easy it would be to take in various gowns.

It really depends on the dress and how many seams it has. I've heard that many dresses can only be taken in about two sizes before you start to alter with the design of the dress a little too much.
On average one size is two to two and half inches depending on the dress designer.
But GreyFuzzy is def right about taking the dress in/out. it is very hard and expensive to let a dress out. you're better off going a size larger or the current correct size.
I just bought my dress last weekend and ended up getting the size I'm in now. I'm hoping to lose more weight and have to have major alterations :) or if all goes well exchange it for a smaller size come April.

I hope someone pipes up if I am wrong, but from what I've seen, a dress can be taken in as much as needed... it's just a matter of cost. The more it needs to be taken in, and the more complex the design of the dress, the more they will charge you.
Anyway, you are better off getting a dress taken in than letting it out... That's even more expensive to fix. I knew someone who had to have their dress let out in every seam because it was too small and the alterations cost them more than the dress did!
