I had the same dilemma. I had my heart set on a gorgeous fitted gown, but if I bought it at my current size I would not be able to take it in if I lost weight because it is so detailed and lacey. And I think that buying it smaller is risky and not a good idea. You want a dress that looks good on you now and if you happen to lose weight, great. It will look even better.
I ended up finding a gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress with corset back that fits me now but can also be cinched up tight to fit me a size smaller and if I lose even more weight, it can be taken in to fit me a few sizes smaller. I think doing something like that is the safest bet. Plus, corset dresses stay on you well and make your body look va-va-voom!
Good luck!

the only time i've heard it's an ok is if you are buying one with a corset backing so you can see more of the lacing. But id be very carefull about it.

No way, I don't think that is a smart thing to do. Only because certain dresses cannot be taken out due to the beading, design complexity, etc. But most dresses can be taken in, so if you lose weight you can most likely have it taken in 3-4 sizes. you should check with your seamstress on this one.
But what if something happens out of your control and you can't lose the weight? That's too much pressure... I wouldn't do it.

| well, this is just my opinion, but i don't advise buying a dress that doesn't fit at all. you can always have your dress altered as you lose weight and get closer to your wedding day. most likely you will have it fitted and altered anyways before your wedding. if you have a long time before your wedding and plan to buy off the rack then you can wait to closer to the wedding to buy a dress that fits you then and have it altered if you lose more weight. i'm sure that will lose weight but you don't want to have the stress of your dress not fitting at all hanging over your head while you plan your wedding. that's just my thoughts. good luck!
