esmereldah-you'll do great with the holidays. a few treats won't hurt you as long as you stick to your healthy diet for the most part

i just joined here a few days ago because my sister's wedding is january 5th and i'm the maid of honor! i want to lose 19 pounds by then. my dress is strapless, and it goes to the floor. i just want my arms/shoulders to look good and my hips to not be out of control. (i'm a hippy person, and dresses dont' tend to look good on me) the wedding is starting to seem sooo close, i hope i can reach my goal by then!!

Hey Ladies,
I've returned to Spark after being out of town for almost a month on business/vacation and being uber-busy before that, getting ready for the events I oversee for the ministry I work for.

One of the things I did while I was on vacation was drop by the wedding shoppe. My sister asked me to look at a bridesmaid dress. We were out of options by that point.

I'm really glad to say that I ordered them on the spot - this is what they look like, only it will be all black, and with black lace on the top:

http://www.jimhjelmoccasions.com/dress_db_occ/display_dress.php?imageno=5682&multimatch=x

You'll probably have to cut and copy the link into your browser.

Anyway, I'm at my goal weight right now. The hard part is that the wedding is two months away, and Thanksgiving AND Christmas are going to be occurring right before it. I'd really prefer not gaining so much weight that my dress doesn't fit!!! :O

Sounds like your hard work paid off. I find that looking at pictures makes me realize a lot of things about my appearance. Whether it's getting heavier or getting skinnier I don't see it day to day as much as I can see it in pictures.

How did it go?? Mine went well. I wasn't too happy about the way I looked in my dress - I think I've become far to critical of the way I look. A problem was that this size 8 was a tad on the big side.

But... when I saw the photos some of my friends took... I have ankles! Really defined legs down there. It really took me for surprise. Good surprise, but still - you can see a shin bone there, an actual slimming down to an ankle, and some type of muscle behind.

Who knew?

I'm in a wedding Friday Oct 13th too. I was so paranoid that I had put on weight after getting sized for my dress ... strapless, so it's was a tight fit so it would stay up - not a lot of room to grow. luckily it still fits, but it would be nice to get some toned arms :) Plus my own wedding might be in a year and I'd like to wow everyone and wear a backless dress or something.

Hey fellow buff bridesmaids...
I've hit crunch time. Seriously, time to do some crunches! I've got 2 weeks to get everything together, and the plan is to do some Ab and Arm work daily until Oct. 13th. Can I count on Sparkies to pester me daily until the 11th so I don't get lax in this? I have a sleeveless dress to wear!!

Hi everyone! My boyfriend hasn't proposed to me yet, so I might have to join the brides forum too at some point. However, for now, I'm in a wedding September 22nd 2007. I know it's a year away but I'm pretty overweight. I hope you will help me in my weight loss journey and I can help you too! :)

This wedding on 9/22/2007 may never happen- it's a really volitale couple...but I'm gonna look hot no matter what!

Thanks for starting this thread! :)

Congrats on fitting into the dress!

T-36 days until my Bridesmaidhood. I'm starting to panic. Panic was displayed by total illogical steps last night - did 8 Minute Ab & Arm workouts at 10:30 at night after having Burger King for dinner (we walked to the restaurant... so 200 extra calories).

Oh well... Bachelorette party is this weekend. We are going belly dancing, which I hear is an excellent way to burn calories. I'll just make up for that by drinking empty alcohol calories.

Hi, Ladies.

I'm back from my weekend of wedding. I didn't quite make it to my lbs goal, but I did make it to my goal of fitting in my dress. Yay! Now I just need to keep going and hit my goal without the motivation of the wedding. i know I can do it, though. Even this weekend, I ate a lot less than I normally used to. Except, I did eat a lot more dessert than I have in the past few months!

Anyway, I just want to encourage the rest of you to keep going and good luck at all your weddings!

I'm only 4 foot 11 inches so I'm a shorty and if I put on .5kg it seems to be noticed straight away. I want to mainly tone up and just lose a few kg's so I look in the mirror and now I look good.
I'm from Oz so I use Kilo and not pounds...

I just want my arms, shoulders, back to look great!! Tone up and lose some inches/fat! It's a strapless dress and I have broad shoulders. Ew.

Hi ladies... I, too, hope everyone makes their goals. I'm in a wedding 7-7-07 and really need to get on the ball. I got married Aug '05 10 pounds heavier than my current weight... I can't bear to be on "display", no matter who's eyes are on the bride, at this weight again! I've got to get my act together... I'm trying to drink tons of water and make it to the gym 5 times a week... hoping it will be easier when the school year starts as the gym I belong to is 2 miles away from where I teach. Good luck everyone!

I am a bridesmaid for an upcoming wedding in September. I am trying to look great for my friends' wedding as well as mine fastly approaching in June 2007. (I say fastly b/c it seems like yesterday we were one year away and now it's 10 months!)

I hope everyone reaches their goals!

Today my friend just asked me to be her maid of honour!

I've been friends with her and her fiance for years so I want to be able to be in great shape and just have a good time at the wedding instead of worrying how I look. She's the bride so everyone will be focussed on her anyway lol, but I still want to be in good shape for myself.

I'm in a slump and want to give up :( But I can't let myself and just keep picturing being next to my brother's beautiful fiance! I think I'm going to hang up a motivating picture or something. Any encouraging words would help!

Personal training pricing ranges, depending on where you live and how the trainer works. I worked with one woman who comes to your house and brings all the equipment you use and it was $45 a session- pretty cheap from what I am told, and my current trainer who I meet either at a park or pool or lake is $70 a session so it really ranges. Sometimes you can cut a deal by buying a package of sessions but they usually will have a free sit down consultation to see if your personalities match. Either one of you can back out at that time and dont feel bad if it is not a match. I found this on the web: http://www.tryatrainer.com/?orgin=glg
And if you are near Oakland, Ca I highly reccommend http://www.sweatequalslove.com/
But check around with friends or the web, and you can usually always have one trial session free. Also sometimes when you join a gym, they will hand you a couple free get in gear sessions and that will hold you in good stead for a few weeks to get up to speed. Good Luck!

Yall arm flab comments are funny, I've got a "belly" (probably from a little too much partying in college) that I HAVE to get rid of! I've been a everywhere from a size 2 to an 8 and I'm sick of it fluctuating. It's definately on the upper side again and I've got to bring it back before my brother's wedding in December. He's my only sibling, and it's the first wedding I'm in. And I just want to look great in front of all my great looking family, friends, and boyfriend!

My best friend just got engaged a week ago and the wedding will not be for a year but I have to start now! I should also be getting married in a year or two. I hope you all are right and the inches and punds start coming off. I would give anything to have a personal trainer like CATRUG! How expensive is it?

They will, I swear- this week Im watching them go away!!! Sooo exciting!!! Keep working- look at them every week, and you will see a difference- maybe keep an old picture around and look at it and look at yourself and note your progress. My trainer busted out the measuring tape and I had lost 3.5 inches collectively! Who knew??? This stuff works!

On Arm Chicken Flaps.

I don't care what you call it, the dress i need to wear is sleeveless, and the flap just needs to go away.

"the armpit chicken cutlet thing"

Oh, man, that is a perfect description!! I call it the chicken wing and it looks just awful. I have it much worse on one side, too, so I am trying to figure out if there is anything I can do to get rid of it. Just keep losing the lbs, I guess...

Hi Buff Brides and Maids!
My best friends wedding is Oct. 9 and the bride, the matron of honor and myself (maid of h.) are all seeing the same personal trainer. We have all been friends since at least high school and are now in our early 30's. Luckily our dresses are black and have great straps that hide the armpit chicken cutlet thing, but that is starting to go away!!
I never thought I'd go for a trainer, but it really is helping kick me into gear, and with the three of us all seeing the same one, we can all talk about what we are up to, support each other in our goals, and it has helped us all see that each of our bodies is totally different from the other 2!!
I am starting to see the weight coming off this week, and I have been dieting for 7 weeks now. It has been really frustrating, but this site has helped me to be accoutable for all my calories!! Five and a half more weeks to go, and I'll continue this to my true goal weight of 135, after the wedding.
Good Luck Everyone!

Well, I'm a newlywed planning a second (renewal if you will, just early) Because half of my family couldn't be there and we went the civil route January 05 when we got married. So first, I'm planning to be a buff bride (Sept. 06 in a pretty strapless Oleg Cassini number!) But my sister just got engaged too, and I'll be her matron of Honor (about a year or 2 away, date isn't set in stone yet) but I was a bridesmaid in my aunts wedding back in 2000 and I was waaaayyyy to chunky for my own good, especially since the matron of honor and my aunt tend to diet and starve before big events like that. So this time (unless preggo!!) I'd like to be just as cute as the bride!!! So it will give me reason to stay trim and stop binging on sweets.

Hi Michele! Welcome to the thread.

I keep telling myself that no one will be looking at me, they'll be looking at the bride, but I know that's not true. I'll have a lot of friends and one husband in the audience, so I'm deluding myself. They are also getting married on Friday the 13th in October! (Theme wedding, anyone?)

I'm going to be a bridesmaid for the first time at my friend's wedding on Oct. 13. We're wearing Alfred Angelo separates: a long black a-line skirt and a cream button down top with long sleeves. I think it'll flatter pretty much everyone. I'm just worried about whether or not I will be able to fit in the dress that I was measured for in March. I've since gained weight. I'm hoping to lose about twenty pounds by then and I should be okay. I really didn't want to be the "fat bridesmaid", but it looks like it's going to turn out that way. That's okay, though. As long as I can reach my goal by my own Jan. 2008 wedding, I'll be extremely happy. Maybe the pictures from her wedding will help motivate me too!

Yes, I spend way too much time thinking about what I want my wedding to be. I'm sure its annoying my boyfriend. We're not quite there yet, but I think it will be soon.

From helping my friend, I've learned how expensive weddings can be, even if they are simple, so I guess I really need to save up if I want my dream wedding.

Not right now... I'm a year removed from my own wedding, and as I'm helping 2 friends plan theirs right now, I'm getting close to wedding saturation.

I have a question for you all...

When I was asked to be in the wedding, my first time as a bridesmaid, I became so interested in weddings. I have made all these plans about details in my wedding, except who I'm going to marry! I was wondering if any of you have gone wedding crazy too.

I love the sheer top on the first dress, but agree that the 2nd dress is probably easier to wear. The ruching is supposed to be very flattering to many shapes, as well. Good luck and have fun!

I like that second dress better. I'm hating the "ginormous bash" idea. How much does that first dress cost? Would you ever have an opportunity to wear it again?

I'm fortunate. Karma is rewarding me. For my wedding, the dress was - Black and appropriate for church. No problems, one bridesmaid borrowed a dress, a couple came from the clearance rack, and the most expensive was $80.

Now, I'm charged with "Black skirt, tea-length or longer, with black twinset." Bought a dress from JC Penney for $53 - can't find a picture, but it has a plunging neckline and I look hot. Now, I need to find a cute, dressy sweater to layer over it. Dress will be re-worn for another wedding and New Years Eve this year. (And, I found a tailor to take it in as needed.)

ESMERELDAH: I really like both dresses, but I would choose the second. I think it looks more elegant.

Hmm, maybe I just don't like lace (to each her own, I think), but the second dress looks a lot more bra friendly. That may not matter, depending on your body type.
