oooo I would have loved to get married in Philly ( we live right outside) but it was super expensive we found and the places we loved had a 200+ guest guarentee and we didn't want that many people!

Our budget is also 5000. So far we are really on track. 2.3k for the ceremony and reception (includes food), 230 on flowers (silk), 300 cake, 500 DJ, 300 photo, no video, 500 dress and jewelry, and FI's dad is picking up the honeymoon woohoo!!

Downtown Philadelphia in September about $34,000 for 170 expected guests. But that's for absolutely everything from the rings to the reception dinner to my shoes and jewelery.

Our budget was around 5k I believe. It was so hard to cut out people from the wedding, but if they are really friends, they will understand. How we picked was "Will I be speaking to this person in 10 years?" Seemed to work...

Northern Jersey wedding, and its looking like anywhere from 28,000-30,000...reception at the mano-13000 alone...we even got a free cake, my mom is making my veil, and centerpieces...trying to save as much as possible.

I'm on an extreemly tight budget. The total cost will be around 3,000. This doesn't include the rings or dress. My dress was 600 and my fiance and I paid for our rings (no holding back on those). We are having a small wedding around 125 at the ceremony and probably 75 at the reception. Friends of the family are doing the cake and and ice sculpture for just the cost of ingredients. My side of the family are making all of the food. We are having a 2PM ceremony, very short at his grandparents church so we don't pay a dime. Just the donation. The reception is in our backyard and I'm doing the music on premade CD's.

I have a 25k budget for a Saturday night wedding in Northern Jersey however we found that we are over that budget and thank god my fiance's parents are helping out. You can definitely have a great wedding for under but we went a little over board with certain things ie: band, flowers.

about $30K for a Friday evening wedding on Long Island (NY). Way too much and we really can't afford it, we are doing it 100% on our own, but this is the best we could do. I cut out lots of extras, made a smaller list of people to invite and all. This is why I have 3 jobs!

Our wedding is in San Diego, CA. We are getting married in August, on a Sunday. We have 150 people. Our budget is $10,000. We are making our own centerpieces, arch flower arrangement, etc. Our bakery is making a wedding cake for 100 people and then we are getting a sheet cakefor the other 50 guests. The cake alone saved us $100. Good luck with all the plans.

Also, since your daughter is getting married in '07, start planning the big things now. We we engaged for a year and a half. We booked our reception area and photographer over a year out, so we got 2005 prices, instead of 2006 prices. Huge difference. Saved about $1000 for the reception and $500 for the photographer.

Ours is right around $15K...more than we wanted to spend, but it is going to be 100% perfect. Everything is EXACTLY what I wanted...and it's still a low price for Orlando and for the location we're having it at. I'm so excited!! :)

We got married in Detroit, MI in May of 2003, and our wedding cost approximately $45,000 when you add up the church, transportation, flowers, dresses, tuxes, reception site, cake, and music. I think we only had 180 or so guests at our wedding.

Ours will be probably 13K. Our budget was 12K but our guest list went higher than expected. Invited 230 people, having the ceremony at my church (free), then outdoor tented reception with buffet (23.75 per plate including linens and china). It'll be gorgeous.

We're spending right around $6,200...so not too bad...that includes everything. While the dinner won't be on the fanciest plates, it's a lot of food and it will be good (local BBQ place since the wedding is in Texas...:D)

Here's our breakdown for a Saturday wedding in September in Central Ca:

Guests: 250
Ceremony: $300
Reception: $28/guest + 18% = $8260
Security (required): $250
DJ: $800
Flowers: $600
Invitations: $375
Decorations/centerpieces: $400
Dress & Tux: $600
Cake: $375
Favors: $250
Candy bar: $200
Photographer: Free!

So total we are spending about $12,000, probably a little over that once we buy gifts for the attendants and parents.

Tips to save money: Don't have a weekend wedding if possible, Cut guests, look for reception venues where table/linen/china rentals are included in the per-person price, if serving dinner do it buffet style instead of sit-down, cut out alcohol, check into local colleges for students willing to do photography or ceremony musicians for reduced price, cut as many flowers out as possible (we are not having boutineirs for the guys and we using candles for centerpieces), e-bay for all the details (cake stands, jewelry, attendent gifts) and the one thing that will save you the most money is to have the wedding during the off-season if possible(October through April). Hope that helps!! Good luck :)

Nicole-

Ours was Chicago Suburbs too... and $20,000 was our initial budget. We ended up with a problem with our initial photographer (son-in-law of a friend of my mom's) who couldn't do that date because of work, and ended up blowing the budget at the last minute trying to track down someone who was available. We knew this was a possibility when we booked it... oh well.

Chicago is THE most expensive city to get married in. Ahead of Boston, New York, and San Francisco.

I've saved a lot of money by cutting out extra expenses.... We are having an 11:00 wedding, so we are havig a brunch reception after-no dance, no dj, no alcohol. I am having silk flowers-and I arranged them, so the total cost for flowers was under $100. We will probably have 250-275 guests, and the brunch is $12/plate. That is our bigest cost. I'm guessing we've kept costs under $6,000. Everything is still going to be beautiful and wonderful and just how I wanted it. I got the PERFECT dress for $500 and I don't have any alterations. I've been able to bargain shop for a lot of stuff since I've been engaged since Nov. 2004. The wedding is June 3, 2006 and I couldn't be more excited!

I started with a budget of $15k but luckily I've wrangled it down to about $13k. Still a lot of money, but I've found some great vendors that aren't sticking it to brides-to-be too much.

This is not going to allay any fears: June 2005, in Chicago: $28,000 - not including the honeymoon which we are not taking until this summer.

We did not even do anything that we thought was extravagent. He has a MASSIVE family (52 first cousins) so the reception was planned for 250. I paid for 1/3, my parents picked up most of the rest, his parents picked up the rehersal dinner and the flowers ($800 on flowers. Bought local, in season, and got all 26 centerpieces and bridal party flower with delivery - I'm pretty proud of myself on this one).

It could have been MUCH worse. We found a package that included almost everything for the reception, so there wasn't the nickel and diming going on. My best friend is getting married in October, and when she started adding up all the little things that her site was charging her for, it was well over $100/person, even though the base package price read $45.
