You could call your bank and ask if they will... explain the situation. I believe anyone cash a check that says CASH... I say that because I just remember people saying not to do it since anyone can then crash it.

thanks both for the info.
i never knew that a check made out to 'cash' could be used by someone other than myself.
i did some poking around on the internet and several sites warn of the practice because it can be used in identity theft. .. and of course, if you unknowningly lose the check its free money for anyone who finds it.

They probably did it that way so either one of you are able to cash it. You should not have an issue with cashing it (you'll just get $$ back instead of depositing it in your acct).

my fiance and i finished opening our engagement gifts this evening and one very nice gift from a family member that i dont know every well was a check made out to 'cash' - i dont believe i can cash this check because its not made out to me - my mother said i should call this person and tell them of my concerns but i feel unconfortable because i dont know this family member very well ..
any suggestions?
