I think that it depends on the designer. I am an 8 in my dress and it's by Maggie Sottero and it's even a little big in the hips. I was a 12 in the more expensive dresses. I went to look at a different store and all the dresses I wanted to try on were way too big on me. So i dont know, it depends. Plus my sister is naturally very skinny and she couldn't try on anything that fit her. So, I think it's hard to generalize about people being discriminatory.

What size are you in your bridal dress? Lots of desingers make great dresses in "plus" sizes. Mine is a MOri Lee, but there is also Paloma Blanco, etc., etc., etc. Try looking at some dresses on bridesave.com to get an idea of some dresses you like in "bigger" sizes.

I totally agree. I used to shop at those stores too. Now I don't even bother going in. The XLs are like a size small. If I do go in I shop in the Mens Sections (tshirts and stuff). I don't think those bean pole chickies are attractive. But my friend is one, and she get hit on left and right while I stand in the shadows.

I thought sizes had done just the opposite. I have clothes from the early 90s that are a size small I can still fit into, now when I pick up a small I think of a preteen girl. Not a woman with curves and breasts. I used to be able to shop at places like the Express, Abercrombie Etc... Now My left boob wont fit in their XL.

I truely don't see the attraction to this type of woman. A woman with no curves or breasts, I would think that would not be sexually stimulating to a man... What is you idea of a sexy woman? Is it different than that is protrayed in the media?

I had to watch my bridesmaid squeeze into a 4 and then complain about needing a 6...A SIX!!! So, she got the 4 for her ego and she better fit into that flippin dress! I wanted to kill myself since I'll need double that size plus some.

Don't worry about it. Thin people always whine about being fat. It's mostly for attention and for you to say they're not. They do it for the reassurance that your going to give them that they aren't fat. Maybe if you stop reassuring them they will stop. If they say "oh my god i'm so fat" just change the subject.

Bridal sizes have been SUCH a big deal recently! All my bridesmaids are freaking out because they are having to order such big "bridal" sizes. Why do these stores do this??? They're all in competition with eachother and complaining about how "fat" they are, meanwhile I had to order a bridal size 12 (way bigger than any of them and they know it) in my dress! Everyone is so upset! I'm sick of trying to make them feel better and having to reassure them that they're not fat. What must they think of me then???

Thanks for all the support guys. I hope that when the time comes that I don't have to shop in the "women's" section. But I'm running out of time. How soon do they say you need to get your dress before the wedding? I have, let's see, .....about 7 months till the wedding. If I buy a big dress now (one I probobly won't like) then what happens in 5 months when I look good and still have the ugly dress when I could have bought one I liked.

But I don't want to buy a small dress just in case I don't hit my goal by the wedding. Then I would be stuck without a dress, or have to make it larger which might not look very good.

Any suggestions????

Try to be good for St. Patty's Day!!!!

Dress do run small. I got married last year and wore a size 8 at my wedding, no alterations here! Then I'm in a wedding this Sep and had to order my dress last week and according to their "chart" I was a size 14. I weigh the about the same and all my measurements are about the same, maybe even smaller, but I still had to order the larger dress. I ordered a size 12 because I wanted too. Hopefully I can squeeze my big butt into it.

Also, think about it this way.... I jokingly say that bridal designers are tyring to cause women to spaz...cause if we do, then we might blindly buy a more expensive dress...he he.

I've always found dress sizes to be different. From what I hear, wedding dresses are sized by the "older time" sizing. I mean even look at Jeans from the 80's-not that I wear them, but the waists are so small-I wear a size 10 in jeans and I'd probably have to get a 14 in jeans from the 80's. People are just getting bigger. Look at your grandma's dress, maybe...my grandma was TINY TINY when she got married-there's no way anyone above age 10 could fit into her dress now.

Those dresses run 3 sizes too small. I went to try on some and my normal dress size is 12 and the 12 they had felt like a 8! I was in tears and my mom told me that they run small and dont worry... they were ugly! THANKS MOM!! :)

Hmm, on that chart I range from a 14 to a 20! I hate wedding dresses! I've been afraid to go to David's Bridal to start trying on dresses for exactly that reason! Some of the dresses I want only go to size 16, so I guess I need to wait even longer...

I liked this website because it has size charts on the bottom of the page for each dress.

http://www.bridesave.com/

I compared them to normal clothing stores and there was usually a two-size difference. And some of the proportions are way off, too. What a racket!

We'll It may have just been that we were at different stores. Yours may have had a better selection.

Thank you so much LMF1222. I know I will look nice. I just want to feel nice too and not be so self consciouss.. The dress sizes do run small. My bridesmaid is a size 4 and she had to order a size 6 to zip it.

Another note, one of my best friend's is going to be a bridemsaid. When we went to look at dresses, her tiny size 5-6 frame had to SQUEEZE into size 10s and 12s. Another friend was a size 6 when she got married. She had to get a size 12 wedding dress in order for it to zip up. Don't let the sizes get you down. You'll be gorgeous at your wedding!

I have noticed the raise in price too. They charge more for the same dress if it is in a "Women's" size. Aren't we all Women. Even the little women.

I guess the price jump does make scence since it uses more material. But then shouldn't a size 8 cost more than a size 6? Be fair now.

One of the ladies I know mentioned it is a way for the designers to charge "plus" sizes and get extra money.

Just a thought.

I can definitely relate! I know that David's Bridal usually stocks some dresses in all sizes - not just the small ones! Trying on dresses at other stores was just depressing because they only had the 6s and 8s available to try on.

And I agree about regular stores, too...it makes feeling good about yourself difficult at times.

Talk about some motivation. I went to a bridal store the other day to look for a dress. They must have had over 2,000 dresses. The motivator was that when I asked for a size 20. They took me to the very back corner of the store and showed me the section for "women". HELLO. There were only about 12 dresses and they were all hideous.

I am tired of this. When I look on the website, it says that the dresses go up to size 26. So I should be able to go to the store and try on a size 20 dressin whatever syle I want. But they only have up to size 16 to try on. BULL CRAP.

Most of the world is overweight. Time to move into the 21st century.

Also Same thing at the store. Ever notice how they have like 20 pairs of sizes 1-6 and no bigger sizes. Duh!! Doesnt' this tell them somehting.
