Thanks everyone,
I have talked to my mom about it. She is OK with it. I think we will do it in Hawaii just us since we live in Japan right now, and have for 2 years now. We will probably do it next summer and then when we move back home have a big welcome home-we got married party. The Greeks are just going to have to live with it. My mom really wants us married, so it will be OK with her. I just have the problem of a dress. I cannot get one here, they cost a fortune, and I just want something simple. I might wait until my visit home at the end of the summer, and then look for sales on summer beach wedding dresses then. I hope to get something for about $500 or less. I want this cheap and easy. Also we want to get the rings at home. I have a promise ring now because he wants to get me a Canadian diamond when we go home. That sounds good to me since I really don't want my love and my wedding to be part of all the horror in Africa around the diamond trade. Also, being Canadian and having a Canadian diamond sounds good to me. I know they are more, but it is worth it to live guilt free about it.
Thanks, Oryx

| I would kill for a small wedding. My problem is the same as yours, I can't get away with it. My suggestion is to do what you guys want. If your family has a problem with it, tell them that you are all for having a big reception when you get home so your family can celebrate big fat greek wedding style.

| Why not such through a huge party when you get back...that way it can be less formal and the way you want it?

Yeah, the romantic escape is sounding pretty good when I look at all the costs involved in a big traditional wedding. I am almost sold on the idea and have started researching. I think it would be really nice, and intimate, not a big headache trying to please everyone else. This way too I don't need to worry about offending anyone that I don't invite, since I am not inviting anyone at all! I kind of like it that way. We can always have another wedding at home later I guess, but it wouldn't be the same. A reception at home maybe.
anyone else been to hawaii?

| My FI and I went to a wedding on Maui last June. It was breath-taking! All the guests (~ 15) arrived about the same time they did and left a couple of days after the ceremony so they could honeymoon (they went to Kauai for another week). They had a great time and have told me that they highly recommend it!

| I would kill for the romantic escape...we were originally going to do that but upset my family so we decided to have it in the states. Friends of ours got married in Hawaii last year and loved it!

So, we are thinking about getting married just the 2 of us in hawaii on the beach. Nice and easy, but romantic and beautiful. I am not sure that I want the big fat greek wedding thing, which I would have to have at home. It is an idea we are tossing around, so what do you all think about it? Romatic escape or cinderella wedding?
