| I am paying $1.85 per slice. I went to a small Italian Bakery and they were way cheaper and awesome to deal with. I would avoid the places that you may see at Bridal Shows. They were anywhere from $4 to $6 a slice from what I have seen. I guess if they have the money for those shows they are likely charging more. Ask some of your friends, people that make caske out of their homes are usually on the more reasonable side as well.

Explain your numbers to your bakery. Tell them you want the three tiered cake for the pictures. That covers about 100 people. Then order sheet cakes for the other 200 people. It's a lot cheaper! Our florist actually gave us the suggestion!
We have 150 people. Our 3 tiered cake serves 100, we ordered a sheet cake for the other 50 people. The cake goes in the kitchen to be cut afterwards, so no one knows that they are getting a sheet cake. The price of our cake went from $450 to $300.

Hi Jenny This is what I did when I got maried. I looked for the best cakes in town, regular cakes, not wedding cakes. I ordered 6 of them for the 180 people, and my catoring company, set them up really nicely in different layers on the sweet tables. It looked absolutly beautiful and it was less than half the price of a wedding cake for that amount of people. The way I see it wedding cakes usually don't taste very good, they just look good. And to me the important part was that it tasted good and looked good but not necesarily so ornate. I am curently living in Brazil now and the way they do it here is very creative. The cake that is on display is actually fake, with the exception of one layer that is the one that you actually cut. The other layers are fake, but beautiful with so much work, etc After you cut the cake, the waiters take the cake and serve at the kitchen from another cake that is a good tasting one but not ornate at all. That cake can be made by even a relative that knows how to bake. It works here, I don't know if in the US they have cakes for display only. The thing is they look really real it is amazing. I hope this helps.

I like everyones suggestions! I was going to say - go to local bakeries and just order multiple 2-3 tiered cakes. You could have several beautiful cakes in different colors and flavors. If you don't tell them they are wedding cakes- you can usually save money!

| We're probably getting our cakes from the grocery store because it's cheaper and because, being in the south, we have to have a groom's cake.

Thanks for the tips... I really like the cupcake idea, and I definitely hadn't thought of the grocery store before!
Wendi- we're getting married on the same day!

We're using the traditional "small-town" method - we're actually going to serve cupcakes, so that we can visit every table to hand them out, and so there is no need for extra dishes. We're using an old family recipe and handing it out to everyone willing to make a dozen or so (family, neighbours, wedding party). Cake freezes well, and ices a lot easier when it's frozen (especially in July), so they're still moist and yummy by the time their eaten. Also, our motif is blue flowers, so we're using blue icing to draw blue flowers on all the cupcakes.

Try grocery stores. I know that the cake I WAS going to get that was 3 layers would have fed around 100-150 people was 175. You could get the fiesta cakes with 2 lyers plus usually 3-4 offsided layers for around 300.
But here is my suggestion. We are expecting 100-150 people. We are just going to buy 2 full sheet cakes, which are very large, for around $100, & that will feed everyone and then some. It's a lot cheaper, because the wedding cake is expensive when you buy it to feed everyone. Just a suggestion.

| I'm looking for a cake... it's got to feed 300 people! I have an enormous family. I want to spend under $2.00 a slice. Is that possible anywhere?
