| My girls are wearing tea-length dresses because of the time (3pm). Otherwise, the dresses would be too stuffy.

Though you want to have her wear something that "falls-in" with your look, you also will want her to feel comfortable and maybe even get a dress she will wear more than once... There may be a compromise... try a free-flowing skirt for her where it comes up in the front to a point at the knees and down to ankle length in the back. Choose a light flowing material and you will get less of that formal look that youre trying to avoid and still make your friend happy. If your friend sees you are looking for a good compromise she may be more willing to make those compromises you want as well. Good Luck.

| Try David's Bridal or Alfred Angelo. The have separates. You can order the skirt that's long to cover up thier ankles and the spaghetti strap blouse to make is summer (or any other top you want). They have solid colors and flower prints in all different types of materials.

| Sorry no ideas here i hate the full length bridesmaids dresses...I agree that they always look way to formal, kinda like prom dresses. I am much more into the tea length and flowy dresses, but have you tried looking at evening were instead of bridesmaid. Sometimes you can find some different styles that way. Or just tell your bridesmaid that all eyes are going to be on you and not on her ankles!:)

I'm going w/ a laid back wedding too, and I have noticed so many formally looking dresses. I luckily found a very cute one at David's Bridal that is just what I wanted, and they have a couple others that would work too.
Another idea would be the possibility of looking at department stores, like in the junior departments for casual options. the only issue there is how many bridesmaids you have and if you want all the dresses identical to make sure you have enough, but if you look at the designer of the dress they usually have a website that you could get more from.
Hope that helps!

| I also am going with a very laid-back knee- midthigh length dress. One of my girls wanted to go long too. I kept reminding her how hot it would be in a long dress. There are all sorts of different shoe styles that will flatter her ankles more. I think I've found that the higher the heel, the skinnier it makes your ankles look. But to get down to the nitty gritty, this is your wedding, not your friend's ankles' wedding. All she has to do is wear what you ask her.

Am I the only one having a hard time with these? I'm getting married in August in the mountains outdoors. Our goal is to have a much more casual ceremony & reception than most traditional weddings.
All the dresses I've liked have been knee-length & summer-y! One (I only have two!) girls hates her ankles and has requested a full-length dress to hide them. I can't seem to find a long dress that doesn't scream "Formal" to me. Any ideas? I've looked at the traditional bmaids dresses web sites, JCrew & other retail stores and nothing is striking my fancy. Anyone have any ideas? Do I just ask my dear friend to wear a shorter dress?
