Oh, yes you can! Make a promise to yourself, that you will go for a short walk regularly, come hell or high water! So bundle up and get out there!
Winter is the best time of the year to start walking, there's NO bugs around! And you don't get all heated up and exhausted from the heat, like in the summer. Well one has to be particular when to walk to beat the heat of the noon day sun in the summer. Or walk in the evening when the mosquito's are out!

Hi Ladies! Good walks and elliptical today. 6.75 miles. Cold and blustery outside, but walking fast and getting a good cardio workout are helping to keep me warm!
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! Laurie

I went for a couple walks today. It is so mild right now that one just has to get outside. This morning I walked to my daughter's to get her dog so the dog could spend the day at our house. This afternoon I walked back to return the dog. We both (me and the dog) enjoyed both walks. Altogether it was about 40 minutes.

I am joining in on the walking and steps. I used it when I worked and used to rack up around 1800 steps a day. Now I am not working and it just turns to fat. Sandy

Hi Cindy! Welcome to the walking club! We're pretty casual around here. Okanog started this thread as a place where folks can get together and encourage one another about walking. Just post whenever you like!
I had a great week, averaging about 6 miles a day, between walking and the elliptical. It is making a difference too as the scale is finally moving again.
Okanog - sorry about your computer glitch; how frustrating! You sound glad about your decision not to move. I'm happy for you! Sounds like a great walk! Doesn't the sunshine make such a wonderful difference?
Hope everyone is having a great week! Laurie

Hi, Jolama! We've had a couple of "no shows" in the Steppin to be Fit Challenge. I'm checking with you first to see if you would like to join that challenge. You would be on the POODLES team, Team 5. I've come to you first because the teams were full when you asked to join last Friday. We can adjust your steps since this week is a baseline steps week. Just let me know at the Steppin to be Fit site or my journal- Tricia's Journal.
Take care, Tricia

Hello there, so nice to meet you!
Isn't it frustrating to not be able to log onto a site that you love? In understand completely.
I have to say that I like the set up of this board and I've acquired 2 buddies so far. That should help a lot, knowing that someone has my back and that I have theirs too. Besides, making new friends is a nice thing.

Hello Everyone and the all the New Members!
I have not been able to get on this site for days. Don't know what the gliche was. Couldn't even enter my daily foods cause the page would freeze up. A few times that I managed to enter foods, it was not correct. That is a first for this site in 3 years I have been posting. Got an email they wre doing maintenance and firgured I would wait before tryingto get in here again. So this is the reason I have been absent.
To the ones that knew I had my home up for sale..... I took it off the market in October. I prefer the climate in the interior better than the coast. No loss to the person I was going to buy from, the places in the gated community, have risen $30,000.00 since I put my offer in. The person was probably glad I declined to go futher. My sister was a bit upset at first but understands one has to remain where one feel best.
No snow lately here. Just low depressing clouds. Though it can still snow into March up here. One year got 5 feet of snow at the end of March.
Trails along the creeks are very muddy. Been going for walks with my friend and our dogs, to a grassy field. It is nice because the dogs can run freely off their leashes.
Been doing my treadmill every other day.

Good morning Ladies! How is everyone today?
I have 2 sick sons here today. Stomach cramps and all. So far I'm feeling fine, just some muscle aches from the ab roller use and my weight machine has an exercise you can do that works the stomach muscles too. Everytime I rolled over last night they reminded me they were there, LOL! And here I thought my muscles were non existent anymore.
I need to get onto my treadmill today too and and see how many miles I can clock. I haven't been on it the last few days, so back to it I go!
First though I want to check out this board and a few others I go to and say good morning to all my friends and get a few more loads of laundry done and then off I go. Have a good day and I'll see you either later or tomorrow. I have a few questions about how to enter in the exercises I've done and my water intake and such. I tried to enter my walking before and there was nothing to click on where it had how much walking to do that particular day. Maybe someone can help me with that since I'm new here.

| Hi Ladies, My name is Linda. I'm almost 58 years old and I'm not much of an exercizer, but I am trying. So far I walked 2 days just around the block 1/2 mile or so with my Husband. He takes me home and continues on. I'm trying to make it further everytime, but I have arthritis and the cold here in WNY makes it kind of hard. Summers are so much easier.

Hi Ladies! Wow, we've got some new additions to the walking club! Welcome everybody! Good to have company!
Judy, its wonderful to see you posting again! I have really missed you. Sounds like you are already getting back into the swing of things. I don't have a treadmill, but I do have an elliptical. I can see my TV from it. So I do 30-40 minutes on it in the morning while I drink water and watch CNN. Not that I am that much of a news junkie, it's just that CNN helps me to not feel so far from home.
Has anyone heard from Okanog? I saw her Happy New Year message posted here, but nothing since then. Maybe her condo finally sold and she is in the process of moving. Have you heard from her Judy?
Well, my walking has been pretty good lately. Between the elliptical and outdoors, I am averaging about 5.5 to 7 miles a day. That's a pretty good increase from August, when I could barely make it six blocks! And this thread started it all!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! Laurie

Judy I'm 53. I have a few e-mail friends in Canada.
JOLAMA, way to go on all that walking and yard work! Much to cold here for work of any kind outside. I have a friend in Norman and I used to live in Tulsa. In fact I think my ex is living in the country around the Sand Springs area.

| My pedometer was having trouble yesterday, I ran around all morning (checking out Christmas clearance). It was like for 3 hours and only recorded 577 steps. The battery must be going out. I raked leaves, bagged and watered the yard. I would guess about an hours worth of yard work. (fired danger very high in OK) I am going to guesstimate that I walked 3 miles yesterday.

Oh Judy, don't I know it!!
I may have to rearrange the bedroom just to put it in front of a window, lol! I used to walk for an hour and a half and now I just have no enthuasism for more than 30 min. Got to change that if I want to see results!
Where are you located Judy and may I ask your age if you don't mind?

Paulette, I agree that walking with a friend is great. I, too, was walking on a regular basis with a friend. We stopped when she got a job. Somehow using the treadmill (which I TRY to do during the winter) is just not the same.

Walking is my choice of exercise too. I lost my job of 15 years on Sept. 1st and havn't walked much since then. A friend and I started in 2004 with me walking about 3 miles a day and her 1 mile. Then we made it to 5 miles a day and now I've begun to walk on my treadmill since the weather is colder and rainy too. I really could use some butt kicking to keep me motivated, if you know what I mean. So if anyone wants to keep me company I'd appriciate it.

Hi Sharon, You can find the Steppin' to be Fit Challenge on the Community Challenges board. Just post a note to PatRohn (Tricia) on that thread and let her know you want to join the challenge. She is forming the teams today, so don't delay!
Hope to see you there! Laurie PS, I lived in Hawaii for 13 years before moving over here to Japan in 2004. Aloha Nui Loa!

Does the title of this thread mean you guys are walking for exercise? Mind if I join your group. I noticed there are 5 pages of messges, so you guys have been at this for awhile. That is my choice of exercise. walking helps with my IBS and is a good weight bearing exercise for my ostioporosis. I have been trying to walk 3 miles a day but think since it is the new year I will shoot for 4 or more miles a day. I have a set of walk away the pounds tapes to walk to if I don't walk enough during the day. I have been know to take laps throug out the house or around a school room or in place even. I just recently joined this site and have yet to figure it all out. Joyce

IT'S A BRAND NEW YEAR WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST IN HEALTH AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!
Nice pic Judy!
It snowed here last night. Sunny and cold today. The creek path was very muddy, been walking at a nearby grass-land park. The park is another with the a creek. Lots of creeks around here since I live in a valley that is surounded by mountains.
CHEERS!
