There are a lot of us here dealing with pain when we walk. I had total hip replacement back around Christmas - walking has been my primary therapy - it still is painful, but it gets less painful each month. I can see a lot of light at the end of my tunnel!

GiGi, and Nan, Hello and welcome. I to have been plagued with a right hip injury as well as a left ankle injury. So my walking is in slow motion but it is in motion. I also workout everyday for at least 40 minutes. If I can do this anyone can. Diana K.

Hello All! Sounds like everyone is motivated to succeed whether it happens quickly or takes a while. I keep telling myself it took several years to get up to my high weight of 175 so it's going to take a while to get down where I should be. Right now I am working to lose a pound a week. July has to be better than June was.

Good Job Gigi!! I have had major foot problems (plantar fascitis) so I know the frustration of having to go slow. At one point walking was so painful I sat as much as possible. I am sure that contributed to the weight gain. I finally had shock wave treatment. You wil get back in shape by doing a little more each week as your body allows. Keep it up!!

GIGI - Great motivator, injury recovery! Way to go!

Denny S. - I hit my 6 month weight goal, then have gained two pounds this week also. But I am going to walk my butt off - literally, until it goes away!
NEVER GIVE UP!!

Keep spark'n!

I've been with SP for about 2 months now. Since I hadn't been active for quite a while due to knee, ankle and back problems, I started slowly with the outdoor walking. Though I can't walk that fast, I progressively increased the distance. Three weeks ago, I got a WATP dvd. I started with the 1 mile program and now do the 2 miles (with weights). I still walk outdoors when the weather permits.

Hi All, did 3 miles in the morning, and just got back from another 3. Beautiful day to walk here. Both walks in the 60's with low humidity. Rare day in July here. Bad week on the eating end up 2 pounds. First time above my extended goal line. Not good!

Hi Ya'll Hope you each had a wonderful holiday! It was quiet here. DH spent the day rebuilding our computers so we can access the internet. I went to fitness room and used stair stepper and treadmill. Today I did treadmill and weight machine. I am getting back into the habit of exercise and food tracking.

Do any of you watch Oprah? I really liked what she said on a recent show regarding her weight loss. "I made a decision." Every day it really is a decision to take care of ourselves isn't it? To decide whether to sit or get up and move, to eat the chips and cookies or reach for a piece of fruit.

Carole--You have made a life changing/saving decision. Congratulations and keep it up!!

Denny S. Congratulations on your retirement! My DH is counting the days-- he has eleven and a half years to go!!

Denny B. Sounds like your house was really full. It must have been fun. Is that your wife in the picture? I still need to learn how to add pics to my page.

Happy Walking!

I missed my walk on the 4th - too busy with my guests. We had 10 sleep overs at the house - so they could be ready for a big celebration on the 4th - I was the cook. So, I got in 2.5 miles in this morning before going into the office. Felt good about that all day long!

Good morning everyone,
Got my 2.25 miles in this morning - humid already, bur bearable at 6:00 AM.
Tried eating a little yesterday before my walk and it made me feel kinda yucky - I'll keep walking with my water and an empty belly from now on. It's working for me, so why change?
Blessings to all,
Beth

Hi All, just got back from my 3 mile walk. Had a few sprinkles before I got back. Looks like storms are coming and we really don't need any more rain right now.

Hi gang. I've been walking, walking, walking, but it has been in the house due to some repairs we had done. Had to move all the furniture away and back, which led to spring cleaning etc etc. I've added up all the hours, and divided in half at a 30 minute mile pace for my SP aerobic points. I thought that sounded fair? Still it has been 3 or 4 hours a day. I can feel it, I tell you!

Hope everyone is well.

Hi Denny, I will say a prayer for all who have to contend with the floods..when I lived in Cal. and they were having there floods as an Easterner I was devasted--I never seen anything like that before..To all you on the East Coast--my heart is with you and I wish I could be there to help.

God give them the strength to start thier cleanup and the strength to get through this tough time..

, go away and send it to my state, we are in a drought.

Hi All,
The rains are over but the mess isn't. I am fine and just had a few minor problems. The people next town down the river at Bloomsburg and surronding areas have had a terrible time. They don't have water to even try to clean down the mud. As of yesterday you still couldn't access some areas and unless you had a real good reason wouldn't want to. Actualy the water in some areas was higher than the flood of the Agnes hurricane. Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers.

I would like to share a good moment with all of you as I retired yesterday June 30, 2006. It was a little bitersweet though as I am going to miss the great bunch of people I worked with. No excuse for not getting my exercise in now!

Denny S.

Hi everyone, I have gone on severel forums and still don't know where I belong but I'll stay here till the 60 arrives in Aug.. I read most of your postings and Beth I do walk before I eat.. I'm up at 6 with a cup of coffee and log onto Sp till 7:30 then begin my walk on the treadmill (any where from 30 min. to 60) depending on what I have to do that day and how much time I can devote.. I have gotten up to 3 miles in 62 min and I must say it felt great..

What is the burn.. I do feel burn in my calves at times..

All of us 50 something can stick together and add up the miles at the end of the month..

Could be interesting and informative...

What do you think!!!!

Day 26--no smoking
Day 13--with SP

July, here we come--ready and raring..

My ears are open for each and everyone of you when you need a friend!!!!!!

Nice to hear from you! We missed you! Looks like the move to Michigan is going better now. You have found your exercise options!
I went for a two mile walk last night and will do another two miles this morning before going into the office for some kind of emergency meeting with the boss - kind of unusual for him to call us in on a holiday weekend. Must be important. Anyway, to all your Red-White-and-Blues, have a glorious Independence Day weekend! And, its OK to eat Bar-B-Q - just go easy on all that sauce! HA

Good Morning Walkers! It's been quite a while since I was here. I just finished reading the posts from the last couple of weeks. You all sound like you are doing great. I am just getting back into exercising daily. There is a fitness room here at the complex we are in so I have been going there or just walking aroune the complex. Yesterday I took my dog for 30 min. I had been so long since I had taken him he acted like it was hard. The vet had told me he needs more exercise too so I need to get out with him on a regular basis.

I tried the eliptical trainer the other day. It was really difficult. I am feeling the effect of using different muscles so will have to build up to longer times.

Well, I have just spent my work out time in front of the computer so I better get up and get moving. See you later. Have a great day everyone

Good morning Everyone,
Just found out after 2 months of getting up early and walking my 2+ miles that I may not be getting the "burn" I thought I was getting... Seems I should be eating something light before I hit the road and I've just been grabbing my water bottle and going. Does anybody else walk/run/jog on an empty stomach? It seems to be working for me, but maybe it could be better...?
God's peace,
Beth

I hope this post finds all our east coast spark friends high and dry. It looks like most of the rivers crested in the last 24 hours - I pray that the worst has passed.

The weather here in Michigan today was spectacular as I enjoyed a wonderful round of golf this afternoon. I am looking forward to a nice, relaxing, quiet July 4th weekend!
