Beth, you are really losing the pounds. Keep it up. Dennis, you are a good example for us, making sure to walk even when away on business. Everyone is doing great! Goin' to bed. I am pooped.

Mary Nan Welcome to Michigan! Hope you find a friendly route to do your walking! I was able to walk both days during my business trip to Cinci. I was up very early and found a soft sidewalk to guide by steps!

Hi Shawna, Once I started walking, I noticed that the arthritis in my knees doesn't bother me as much anymore - that was enough motivation to get me going and once I started getting up early in the morning to walk, I noticed how much more alert and awake I was for the entire day and that's enough motivation to KEEP me walking! Adding up those calories burned is also a nice boost as is the steady weight loss! God's peace, Beth

| Good to hear from you Mary Nan and glad you are getting settled. I just signed on ready to ask if anyone has any ideas of how to get yourself motivated to walk when you just don't want to...... I can understand what you have been going through, we are remodeling and everything is in a mess. I long for the day when I am where you are now , getting stuff back to normal and all. How do you like Michigan?

Good Morning Walkers! I am getting settled here in MI. After missing almost a week of walking due to the move I am getting back to it. There is a trail here in the complex and around the surrounding neighborhood so I have been exploring it. Also a fitness room so I have been there twice now and used the treadmill and stationary bike. It is really taking all my will power to get moving again--so easy to make excuses and just sit down. All of you are my inspiriation.

Hi all, I'm in North Carolina, about 70 miles south of Raleigh. We get some really strong T-storms around here, but usually in the evening or at night. This last early morning one was not the norm! I'm walking a bit farther this week, I haven't measured it out yet, but I'm doing 2+ miles at least 6 out of 7 days. Love the new ticker, don't you? Beth

| Beth, Were do you live? I know here in Michigan we have had some storms lately. Good for you walking anyway, keep up the great work. Diana

| Way to go Kathy! Five miles, wow!! Beth, where do you live? Must be somewhere in the midwest if you had awful thunderstorms . . . . But you are keeping at it, good for you! I used my treadmill this morning for 20 minutes is all. The remodeling is still on-going and it was pretty intense this past weekend. Am hoping to get back to a routine here soon, and best off get BACK ON THE WATER. I haven;t been in my boat for three months!!!

Hi everyone, Wow! We had terrible T-storms this morning - power was out for 2 1/2 hrs. Funny thing about the whole experience was that all I was concerned about was that I couldn't go for my walk! Talk about being frustrated, I was pacing like a caged tiger... storms finally cleared out and I got my 2+ miles around 7:00 PM, then came home and went right into my strength exercises. I really worked up a sweat tonight and you know what? It felt good! God's peace, Beth

| I was able to walk 5 miles last night and tonight. Last week I bet I only walked twice. I need to get back into the routine.

| Dear Beth, Hi, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. It has been difficult to work out but also today our curves had a broken pipe in the floor of the building so no workout again today. I did some aerobics, and kickboxing. but not my full routine. I really notice the difference. Not good. I hope that the club will be open tomorrow. Talk to you soon. Diana K aka Lady Di

Oh, Di, Our hearts and prayers go out to you. You must be an extremely strong person to get on with your life while you're in pain. I don't know if I'd be that strong, myself. I'll keep you in my prayers, as I do all my SP friends, and wish you well. God's peace, Beth

| I made a concious decision today. Had to go to town for boxes and run a couple of errands. Nice break from the mess at home. I parked at one store and then walked to all the other places. Felt good and I worked in just a little more cardio. Hope all is well with everyone, I am signing off to get back to my remodeling clean-up . . .

Beween 3 and 4 the last week or so I have been walking 2 miles to the WalMart down the road and back from work. Yesterday it was such a nice day that I walked to the post office 1.5 miles then the back way to Walmart. When I passed my place of employment and noticed that they were slow I decided to walk to the other end of town and back which is 4 miles. When I got back 3 hours later I got yelled at by my young high school clerk. She told me that "Where have you been? you've been gone 3 hours and you told me that you were walking to the post office and back". I told her that I moved away from home 20 years ago and that was the last time someone yelled at me for being gone for long and if she had a problem she could have called me on the cell phone. Her reply was no one walks around here just to walk, I was worried about you!
I could not believe that no one around here walks for fun and exercise. Is it that way all over?

Hi all! No walking this past weekend. Still have cold, yuk, but it is getting better. Got plenty of exercise in though what with all the remodeling going on. Livingroom and hall painted, new flooring in, tomorrow the couch and chairs arrive! Today will be spent getting stuff put back where it belongs.
Dennis - glad you got some walking in while in Florida. You are an inspiration and good example to us all. You're getting better from your hip surgery each and every day?
Diana - I will keep you and your mother in my prayers.
Hi Willows! Well, I am off to get busy on that livngroom. Have a great day everyone!

Dennis,
Its fun to walk with our grown-up kids. I used to have them by the hand, walking real slow, now I have to hurry to keep up with them. I like your first light tulip, would be fun to paint in watercolor..
I got up early yesterday to walk while it was nice and cool. Trimmed some trees and some of the neighbor ladies' trees too. Got my workout.

| Dennis, Thanks for your compation, my mother should talk to you. We are so worried about her, and she relies so heavily on my dad, with his health failing this is all the more reason for worry. He literally does everything for her, when we aren't around. Thanks again. Talk to you later. Diana K.

DI My heart goes out to you and your mother. You are both so strong to endure the pain. Thank God you are seeking help. I am sure the doctors will be able to help you. They have a lot of work ahead of them, figuring out exactly what is best for you. Do not be afraid to get a second opinion if the recommendation is surgery. Our family ALWAYS gets a second opinion. It has been very helpful to us. Your mother should have her implants replaced... and she knows it. Everyone knows it. True, it is very scary to have the operation, but to not be able to walk and still be in pain.... well, that is just not an acceptable alternative. I pray for your mother's wisdom to come back to her, and for her pain to ease. Medical technology has come light years since her last hip operation - the risks have dramatically been reduced. My hip replacement last year was all done thru a 4 1/2 inch incision! Unbelieveable!

| Dennis, I did get a little walking in today, my husband and I have been spending time together as it was our 32 anniversary yesterday, we went to one of the Michigan historical sites not to far from home, we walked the grounds the flowers were beautiful, some rose bushes that were planted in 1862!!! A hydrangia that was planted in 1885!!!! Some plants that knowbody seems to know about, interesting, and beautiful, there was I think at least a mile of walking, I did my other workout today as well. I have 3 graduation open houses to go to this weekend I did think that it would be nice to go to the UP this weekend for our anniversary but I think that my husband is affraid to take me that far. I have been having alot of troubles with my diabetes, and my stomac [gastroparesis, paralized stomac]. I go to UofM on the 19th hope they can do something I guess they are thinking about putting a pacemaker in the stomac to make it contract, I really do not want more abdominal surgery. But I also cannot keep going like this. Well the other alternative is to eat baby food though a tube. The meds don't seem to work. I guess I am special for some reason. There is pain with this 24-7 so the additional pain in the shoulder is difficult to say the least. Listen to me complain, shame on me, I know that I am better off than many many people, so I will shut up about me. My mother has had both of her hips replaced and the first one is over 25 years the other about 24 years they both need replacing but she is scarred as her sister died of a blood clot after foot surgery. Her hip replacements are not adheared to the bone, and she can hardly walk. We all wish that she would go see a orthopedist. A lot of things have changed I'm sure since her surgeries. They were only supposed to last 15-18 years. She is so stubborn though. I do know what kind of pain the hip replacements can be but as you said the constant pain of the arthitic hip is far worse. I hope that you keep getting better everyday, all of these ailments we get I guess make us maybe a little healthier in the long run. They are difficult though. Talk to you later. Diana

Shawna,
That stinks to have a cold in the summertime!!! Hope you are better soon.
I took two walks today, the first 2 miles, then tonite another mile. This should surely help things move. As for the blood pressure being up, the only time it is up, is at the Drs office. My daughter came over and took it today and it was fine. I am keeping track for the Dr. so don't have to take meds.
Have a good weekend all..We have a graduation party on Sunday...step-grandson.Hope the weather is as nice as it was today...gorgeous.

102654 I hope that you are feeling better soon. I am so sorry about your pain. I kind of know what you are going thru - my hip surgery recover has been a real challenge - but it is far better then the 5 yrs. of pain that I put up with before the surgery. Please get well. DennyB
To all - good morning! I will be doing my walking today at the airports in Detroit and Orlando - I figure about 3/4 mile at each.

| Dennis, I have so much pain 24-7 that it is hard to deal with the extra stuff. I will get a full listing of exercises to do, but I need to wait until next Thursday, I did have to cancel today myself, I just got home from my student music recital and after clean up, I am at home. I just ran out of time again as my mother being her selfish self may me get so far behind in my preparations. Thanks Dennis. Diana K.

Hi Hotgrandma,
Good for you.. I usually walk everyday for a mile, which takes me 15 minutes. I will now be walking twice a day, as my blood pressure is up and I don't want to go on meds for that. I took two walks today, and it didn't kill me...LOL.

I have been a good one this week and have walked 5 different days (to the WATP dvd so I am also using weights). Still only up to 1.5-1.7 miles each time but I'm getting better. Must say I am enjoying it. Jo

| I was able to get my 5 miles in yesterday after work. It wasn't as hot but my shoes were killing my feet. I'll have to get new ones this weekend. I went back over my parents to try and finish mulching the Tomatoes and peppers to keep the weeds down. We use newspaper and cut grass. We ran out of grass so if the showers hold off today I pray we'll be able to finish. I'll try to get another 5 miles in tonight...if my feet hold up :o) I'm picking up my granddaughter after work on Friday so I won't be able to walk. By Saturday I hope to have a new pair of shoes. Kathy

102654 Do not live with pain. When you got to your last therapy session tomorrow, ask it there are any exercises that you can do at home on your own - to ease your pain and give you strength. My battle to overcome my hip pain has been a real battle, but one that I am slowing winning. Do not give up, do not accept the pain! Dennis
