Hi Diana
I agree about the change in the weather, enough already! We'll get rain whenever we get it, I seen it dry all winter some years...but the danger is fires starting then !
I don't take any medications now, the doctor gave me a clean bill of health a month ago. I take a vitamin everyday, Centrum...I figure it won't hurt to have a vitamin. I get to the YMCA just about everyday and am working on toning up my arms and chest area, along with exercising on the treadmill. The Y here is 5 miles away, it's new and has a wonderful facility with swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym...along with all the exercise rooms and top notch exercise machines and weights ..Betty joined too, but she only has been going to the water aerobics with arthritis class. She will be having a total knee replacement surgery this coming Monday.
It's wonderful chatting with you Diana
I hope you keep posting,
RW

Runningwater & Hornet, I'll tell you what medicantions I'm taking tomorrow. I have to look them up because Kaiser changed everything to their formulary choices. They seem to be working & are mostly generic so are less expensive. I think I told you that Doug & I am going to Club 50 Fitness Center .8 miles from our apartment. We go three times a week. It's similar to Curves but for those of us over 50. These Portlanders tell us it will be sunny one of these days. The Club will be starting a walking group when (if) that ever happens. I hope I can be part of it. My hip doesn't give me the problems it did about a year ago. We shall see. RW, I wish I could ship some of this rain to Florida. It's causing mudslides all over the place except here in this area.

This is funny, I guess: Withing one day of 5 months, we have been through a major hurricane, snow, and a 3.something earthquake (last Saturday). I think that is just about enough weather adventure for those of us you are not Jim Cantore. What do you think?

Good Night. Diana

Thanks RW. It's not the hip that's the problem. I am tired all the time. No motivation these days. My thyroid has been out of whack for a few months. I am seeing a specialist, but so far no fantastic improvement. Makes me feel depressed too because I can't do all the things I need and want to do. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. The hip is great! I was impressed with how far and fast I walked today. I am hoping that if I do more of that I will boost my energy level again.

Thanks for the support! I needed it.

Hi Pam,
I wish I had known you were having a tough time, I'm glad they're getting a little better. My wife is going to have knee replacment surgery on Monday and it's going to be tough for her too, I'll be taking good care of her at home after she gets out of the hospital. If you need some support let me know, and please feel free to join us in my community profile.
Take it easy with the walking but I know that you have to do it.
you have a great day too.

Hey everyone!

Decided to check in. Haven't in a while. Times a little tough for me but better each day now. Glad to see you all doing well. The weather her in Missouri is just nice enough to go outside and walk. I did that for the first time today after my hip surgery. Not bad --- 2 times around the pond!! I need to bring in the walking shoes soon.

Hope you all have a great day.

Send me a little rain, we could use it
everythings so dry here right now, but the sunshine is wonderful

I love the hot weather too, and the beach. I never got into scuba diving but 2 of my adult kids have the equipment and got certified, they go down to Key West sometimes. Someday I'd like to Para Sail over the ocean...that is more my speed...dancing in the air
If you ever get your island I'd love to come to a party there.

back at you as if you wanted more, but enjoy as we will have rain later today, again.

I like the warmth. I could live on equator year round and not bat an eye. Give me my scuba gear, computer, satallite link up, roof over my head where I can sleep, my hubby and bathroom. I am all set!!!

I got spoiled diving in Micronesia a few years back. I would like my own island and invite friends to come and have party whenever...

Thanks for the flower and I will check in later.

Everyone have a great day, I'm down to 7 days left.

to everyone!

Diana, that's great ...are you taking any medications? I went to the doc's about 2 weeks ago and he took me off the BP medication...I'm not taking any pills now at all
Circulation, breathing, BP, cholesterol all got the OK I liked to hear that! Don't need to go back for 6 months to follow up
Life is good at 67 ...

Good morning Bee, here's a flower for you this morning

welcome Fairylady! I have lived in Austin since 84.
I just got AARP cards for my hubby and I for 3 yrs. I waited until now -- 52 -- to get them. I was hoping that it would not be true -- but yes I am over 50 and it keeps on rolling.

Weight loss is hard for anyone. This is such a great site for that SP has been really for good me. Glad you came here and welcome. Come to visit at all the areas. It is fun.

Have a great day!!!

Thank You!

We had a lot of the people from both hurricanes here in Austin. Many have stayed many have moved elsewhere. I don't how they will ever get back what has happened. My heart goes out to all.

This being over 50 is really starting to be work. At least I am still losing weight, not fast but losing. I am looking for a few good areas to hang in to give support as well as maybe get some. So far so good.

I really like the SP has let me track food and other things I do, but mostly like getting the points. I think that in of itself is a reward that helps.

I am hoping that several of my close will come here to SP and then it will be a way for me to stay in touch with them even more.

I hope your friend Diane likes Oregon. I am originally from Washington. I still have family all along the west coast in all three states.

I am really happy to have found you and I hope I can be of help to you if you ever need it. I will return.

Thanks again.

Hi Bee...a face from Texas
We do pretty good here, sometimes it takes a break then picks back up. I started this thread last summer, I live in Florida, Diana lived in Mississippi..prior to hurricane Katrina. I lucked out but Diana didn't....she's relocated now to Oregon. We didn't know for a long period of time that she was still alive, so many people lost everything and a lot were killed.

I love this Spark program and I've been around a while...if you need any help, just let me know.
hugs,RW

Hi Diana, You should do a profile now and community journal...it really helps to get involved and get results.
Coach Jen had me write up a success story for the SparkPeople website, it's the tab on the top of this page..."success stories"
I'm staying at stage 4, it's been a big change that I find pretty easy to maintain my weight now. I have put on some muscle from strength training which has added on a few pounds from my goal weight...I weigh in everyday now but no longer need to track the food.

I'm so happy that you are getting back on the track again, I hope that you continue to stay in touch.

Hi RW, I logged my breakfast for the first time in several months. It's a start. I'll do a profile soon. (I say that all of the time!) Not much else to report except that I'm taking DH Doug for his 2nd session of PT. She is working on his balance and walking. I work on it with him. He is a young 80, and I'm 66. Congratulations on reaching your goal in Novemer. How are you doing with maintaining it? Diana

I wanted to drop in and see if this area would help me. It looks you are all doing very well.

I'm a 52 young grandma and still working full-time and I have been married 34 yrs to same sweet guy.

Need to lose this weight and get life under control. I need all the support I can get, but like to give it back return.

Hope everyone is really doing well and truly being honest and open.

A face from Austin, TX.

I didn't see your post till just now, late Friday evening. Congratulations on being a Community Team Member. Where do I find out about the changes? I wondered why there were so many new members. I'm getting into things slowly. Part of the problem is that the weather is so overcast that it is very easy to sleep late. Today the sun came out for about 10 minutes! Wow. I'll tell you more about the "goings on" here tomorrow. I missed everyone, too. Diana

Hi Runningwater, I'm still here--Diana formerly from Mississippi but now getting soggy in Portland OR. My new doctor told me to exercise and lose weigght! Imagine that! She is the first one to say it out loud since a doctor last breathed those words in 1996. I'm almost back to my pre-Katrina weight. We are going to a fitness club called Club50Fitness. It is similar to Curves and gives my husband a chance to resume his cardiac work. (He had a quintuple bypass in 2002. The club is less than a mile from here. More later. Diana

I'm back again. Was a little sore in the hip and thigh because of the weather yesterday. Kinda of bumbed out too! Much better today. Lot's going on in my family and some good and some not so good. Lot's to deal with. One day at a time. I have been eating a lot this week. Mouth hungry, not tummy. Much better today. Trying to keep busy and away from the kitchen. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Nancy - stay with us. It works! great people out here. RW helps a lot.

Hi Nancy, you'll find a lot of positive changes going on, start with the 1st stage and continue your way to reach your goal. Somewhere along the way, you'll realise how far you've come and how it's changed your life too. Start tracking the food and the fitness, and don't be in any hurry to reach your goal, set goals that are do-able when you exercise

Read the pages in the resource center, there's a wealth of info there, and most of all get involved with posting on the message boards ...log in every day and become motivated. My community journal is linked in my profile and we have a lot of positive things going on always, join us anytime....

Thanks Nancy.

I have a Cindy Crawford workout tape that is pretty good. I did that last week - 45 minutes. It went well and I didn't do the parts that I knew I couldn't. The next day I was a hurting fool. I should have done the second segment a day or two later, but didn't. I think I will try to fit it in tonight. Thans for the help and encouragement.

Hi everyone! I'm new and wanted to check in as a 50-something. I live in the Redwood forest atop the mountains that separate Santa Cruz from "Silicon Valley" in California.
Pam, I know what you're going through. My (latest) best solution is a walking workout DVD that has three 10-minute segments plus a little stretching and strength training that you can mix and match to go at your own pace. walking is safe and you can start small and then add to it. I know if I just get moving for even 10 minutes I feel better. Then, I can build on that (later in the day, later in the week)... Just that you wrote about it starts a positive change!
Nancy
