I'm also a member of "night eaters anonymous!"
I've been trying to keep my hands busy doing crafts in front of the t.v. ones that can only be handled with clean non food hands! And then there's logging onto here at night. It can be quite time consumint!

The nights are my most challenging time. That time of day when you relax in front of the tv after accomplishing a full day of tasks and dieting.....

I try to save some calories for the nights and always end up eating them.

MGKIME1,
I found the protein snack at night will satisfy my snack cravings at that time. I'll make it a habit for a week to see if it helps me to stay asleep also. Thanks for the idea!

Nancy... I'm new here, too. Like Kathy, I've found that pushing my dinner time back helps a lot by reducing the number of hours I'd be tempted to snack. Also, I eat a high protein snack of yogurt or low fat cheese about an hour before bedtime. Otherwise, I'll either not be able to sleep, or else I'll wake up famished in the middle of the night. I have a problem with low blood sugar, so snacking is a necessity for me to keep it from swinging all over the place.

Graverts... Wow, that's a tough problem. Any chance you could bring something heathy to work with you? I've never been to a Buffalo Wild Wings. Do they have salads or grilled chicken there?

Good luck to all!

My issue with night time is I go from my day time job to my night time job at 4:00. I work at Buffalo Wild Wings at night and it is very hard for me to eat healthy there! I don't get home until 9-11 every night and I don't want to eat that late, and I am always starving at work so I eat there!

I have a huge problem with nigh time eating as well where sometime, I can eat an entire day's worth of calories at night. This is not good but I read an article about how to manage this issue. I'm going to try this approach as well and hopefully, it'll help!

I chew gum in the evening and sip water. After getting ready for bed and brushing my teeth I still sip water and it's working okay for me. However... I do have to get up in the middle of the night now.

Good luck all!

I have found that the water trick works pretty well.
Another is to brush my teeth once I'm done and then i really think twice about eating anything else.

A good healthy carb dense, protein rich late snack is good for chasing the munchies too, especially if you have any blood sugar problems at all.

Blessings to you,
Bonnie

Another helpful tip is to drink a glass of cold water either when you feel hungry (for snacks) or before you are going to eat a meal. This helps you to feel full and will help you to eat less.

I have been a SP member since the end of December and the one bad habit I have is snacking. I need to find healthier choices for snacks. My favorite snack is trail mix. I wish it was cucumbers and broccoli or something else healthy.

Hi Nancy,
I have the same problem but mine is more like an addiction. Even when I'm not hungry and I eat "healthy" snacks I eat way too much of them. I just ran across something the other day that was called night time eating disorder. I'm going to check it out to see if it offered any advice. I do just fine during the day but in the evening the junk food cravings start.

Hi Thanks for emailing me, it does help what you are saying. part of the problem for me is I am not working right now, so that makes me anxious. Buteven when i was working, the lonliness would set in and out came the pandora box of food. Since, i just started with this, I do appreciate the support. Thanks Nancy

Hi Nancy, I'm new here too - just joined last week - and I too have a problem with late-night eating. Before I started this new "healthy habits" quest, I sat down and wrote out what I like to eat and which of those things are healthy. Then I put together some basic meal plans for myself, including a late-night snack for each day of the week. This is the beginning of my second week and so far I'm doing okay. One of the things I've tried to do is to push each of my daily meals back some, so I don't start eating early in the morning... this way I end up eating my supper/dinner later in the evening than I used to. That helps limit the amount of time available to snack during the late-night hours. I also gathered together a bunch of snacks that are okay to eat so that I can have a variety of snack items to choose from. If you want me to share those things with you, I'd be glad to do so. I have found it to be a great help to limit the hours available for late-night snacking (eat supper later) and to plan my healthy and/or low-cal late-night snacks. I also have a new motto for myself: "Just Do It" - so when I don't feel like walking on the treadmill, I tell myself, "Just Do It" and off I go. I'm trying to set myself up for success, not failure. My plan might not work for you, but I'm sure you can come up with strategies to fit your own lifestyle and circumstances if you just think about it and sit down and make a plan. Good luck to you.

Kathy
