I have received my bumper sticker from the contest, but rather than putting it on my car, I have posted it on my refrigerator to remind me of the work that I am doing on this site.

I will have to get some more to post at work and on the snack areas as well... but the refrigerator one is definitely an awesome reminder!

Thanks SPARK

Just wanted to share, I found this site just by chance. I think is great and everyone that I know or talk about the need to loose weight or change diet habits I encourage them to join. I like to share with others and help them.

Thanks Deedum - that's exactly what it will take - as thousands of people get results on the site and spread the word, then eventually this will start to explode.

I have told several people about sparks, sadly only 1 signed up.and didn't take it seriously.very dissappointed, do people really meant they want to loose weight or not? Dredging up an old thread...

Have any of the other winners gotten their t-shirts yet? I know they were supposed to be mailed in late March, but it's now Mid-April. Wondering if it is just me, or if there was a delay (yes, I followed the instructions in the email).

Thanks!

My laugh for the day..just received a call from something I started to do..I had sent in my electric bill and my phone bill and enclosed a flyer about SparkPeople..from the accounting dept of the electric company I just got a call..the person was a department head and wanted to know more..it was their break time and had passed this around..a group found it very interesting..several want to join and to my surprise..the city has gone smoke free ie...you have to go outside and well away from any building to smoke..and its raining..and lots who still smoke are going nuts..sooooo...guess we have more coming in..hopefully they will use the corporate area since the flyer is currently in the hands of the HR Dept ...the way I figure it..if I get bombarded with junk in the mail..well...I will give it back..only my junk is actually useful..hehehehehe..joke's on them!

Nan

PS Yes I do most things online..this just jumped into my brain..another well why not..try and see

There is a way to get national advertising..we have a current sparker that is being featured in the April issue of Prevention magazine..and she was interviewed about fitness and weight loss and gave the credit to sparkpeople.com...that is some of the best advertising you can get and a great target audience and demographic..the doctors, nutritionists..they look around, they like it, they see it is free, they spread the word to patients..that patient might be a magazine publisher or a newspaper features columnist..who knows..but that is what spreading the spark is all about....terrific jobs to all who are spreading the spark...you just never know where your spreading the spark will land..reminds me of the eveready bunny..just keeps on rolling...

I told my mother-in-law about this site, and she joined it not to long ago. Also, I let my diabetic counselor know about it as well. She came here and took a short look and was very impressed. She is now recommending it to the rest of the people she counsels.

It's great that you refer your patients here! I also sent a SP link to my doctor hoping he'll use it as a resource for his patients.

I just think its great that there is someplace out there to help us achieve our goals and it isnt costing money to us. All these years and its just been about taking money to lose weight. I tell all my patients that it offers so much more than any diet site. I just appreciate someone is giving back.

Thanks sparkpeople

Woohoo - that's great to hear Leeann!

Marzy - SparkPeople is still a small company that I started with our team even though we're now a massive website. Since we offer the site for free, we don't have huge revenues yet to be able to do expensive TV advertising. So, our goal is to use the revenues we do get to keep making the site better so that members will get great results and spread the word. At some point if everything keeps going well for the company, we'd like to do more advertising to help more people!

I am a nurse and work in a clinic and the first thing we do when we check in our patients is weigh them, when they complain about their weight, i tell them about my weight loss and also tell them about sparkpeople. I probly spread the word about 5-6 times a day someone gets www.sparkpeople.com

Hi Uofi - sincere thanks from me for all of those efforts! Especially things like posting at Yahoo Answers. Those can really really help us over time even if you don't get credit for many of the people who sign up.

Have a great weekend everyone!

What I did:

Left flyers at Super Bowl Party
Added buttons to my Myspace page, yahoo profile, and bookcrossing page.
Raffled off diet books online.
Posted flyers on bulletin boards.
Passed along information to my office weightloss challenge pool.
Mass email to everyone at work.
and... 443 posts on Yahoo answers.

Total referrals: 133 who actually listed me as a referral - at LEAST 20 more who didn't.

Hahahahah...all you'd have to do to reach 996+ people is to post on a forum like this one...and trust that they followed the referral link (I used the one from the Web site buttons) or took the trouble to enter your username when they signed up.

By that logic, I probably tried to recruit over 100K people. They just don't always listen to me or do what I suggest. ;)

Thank you! That makes perfect sense. I am a newby so I have about a month until I get to 90 days.

Karla it costs nothing to be a Community Team member. There are several requirements to be met to be a Community Member but the first is to have logged in for 90 days (3 months) to be eligible. After that date you are automatically issued an invitation which you will see on your "My Home" page. In fact, if you will scroll down after clicking on MySparks..there is a section that identifies sparks points awarded and how many and when..ie the phases, actions, and strategies. You will find an area there that indicates when you will be asked to be invited..this will occur on the nearest business date..Mon to Fri after logging in 90 days (three months).

Should you choose to become a member you will then be given information regarding the requirements of being a Community Member in good standing.

I hope this helps and if you have further questions please sparkmail me.

Nan
