| CAROLEJ12306: thank you for the words of encouragement. It seems sometimes I get too wrapped up with my children's problems, and I don't work on my own. It is an excuse as well. I have met a nice hiking buddy at a recent family baby shower. We are setting up a time to hike hopefully almost every week. She knows a lot of trails near her home in the Poconos. She is a student forest ranger. Good person to know.I am slowly making some changes so that I live a more healthy life.

Starscout, My 15 yo is a boy and I can empathize with your pain. It is such a shame and so frustrating when bright kids don't get it that it would be so much easier to just do it. I have two older kids, 26 and 30 and they are always telling me they wished they had taken some of my advice. I guess that is the payment we get eventually, that they finally get it. Carole

Hi there, I am new to this site. I am experimenting with all of the threads, checking out where everybody is. I am 50, and will be 51 in April. I just weighed myself this morning and am down 1.6 pounds. It is early days for my new lifestyle, and I tend to do better in the beginning. I am hoping that as I progress and it becomes harder that I will stick with it. Since I am aware of this tendency, I hope this is a good sign that I will work through it.
I currently have a 15 year old at home and an 18 year old away at college. My 15 year old is high maintenance, especially lately since he had knee surgery a week and a half ago. I am running him around to doctor appointments, therapy and tutors. He is currently failing Algebra I. It didn't help with him losing school for a week and a half either. He is doing well in his other subjects. He is not a dedicated scholar, not interested in school, but also very bright which is frustrating to me.
I guess we all have issues. If we didn't have adversity in our lives, we wouldn't appreciate the good things. I do appreciate this site. It may just be what will make me successful in becoming healthy and perhaps even happy with my looks.

Shelly, I have two grown children out of the house and a 13 and 15 yo at home. I also watch my two granddaughters, 1 and 3, while my DS and DIL work. I have gone to weight watchers on and off for the last 20years and have recently gone back. I really need some kind of accountability and the weekly weigh ins seem to keep me honest, at least some of the time. My kids tease me because every Monday morning I start my diet. By Wednesday, sometimes Tuesday, it goes out the window. (What they don't know is that I usually start every morning, and by noon it is out the window!) My oldest daughter suffered with bulimia a few years ago, but has gotten that under control. My thirteen year old doesn't seem to have any issues with food as of yet and I would like my two granddaughters to observe healthy behavior in our family eating habits. But I have been a yo yo dieter all my life, and old habits are hard to change. Carole

HI Ann, That is exactly what I look like going up the stairs. So all of us together giving encouragement I'm sure we will get there. This site is really a blessing. Another lady on a mom Christian site I am on gave me this site. It is so nice to have all this on one site.

HI Carole, It's nice meeting you. I have the same thing trying to keep it off. But as I said I am determined this time . It is harder when getting older when you have that weight on to enjoy active things . I want to be able to do that. I have been exercising three days a week. ANd I have never counted calories before and I am now and it keeps me accountable and it's working.

Most of the time I have to do the one step on stairs too because one knee hurts worse. I look like a really old woman when I do that. I am determined and I believe that the weight loss will help. I have lost before too and gainned it back but I also quit smoking lots of times and went back. I haven't smoked in 14 years. This site is a blessing and I appreciate your encouragement. Thanks Carole

Good for you! I am working on it faithfully. Had a friend that had knee replacement and I don't want to go through that. Hoping in a few months i can say the same.

Hi, I'm new here too, trying to navigate all the really good stuff on this site.
I also had knee problems for years. When I lost just 10% of my starting weight my knees started to feel much better, and now I have no problems or pains in them at all. I went to Drs for years who exrayed for arthritis etc and they all said lose weight. Of course, I thought they were all quacks -- lol -- but it did do the trick. I started walking on the treadmill just 10-15 minutes a day and now I am experimenting with running.
Never thought I would like it, but I do. I feel so much better with a bit of the weight off, just hope I can continue, I've lost weight before, but never kept it off.

Well I have the same problem with my knees believe it or not. And I started working out last Saturday at the Ymca and I thought it would bother my knee but instead I actually feel good. I have a friend that goes with me so it helps me keep accountable. I really like it their and we did the sauna as well . Exercise always makes me motivated into losing it. It's just getting there. I do love this site. It is so awesome . I don't have any health problems but my knees. I know it's all my weight too. Try out your membership at the Y. You don't have to over do it but it will be refreshing!

| I am 54. I have been at this site for awhile but not seriously trying so now it is time to get going. I need to loose about 65 lbs too. I have belonged to the ymca forever but haven't used it. My knees hurt and the doctor said that if I loose weight that will help. I have high cholestrol and a carb junkie....and sweets etc. I am serious and would love to have encouragement and support. I know that we are in the same boat and I think this site is awesome. Anne
