| I kept putting it off, telling myself I WOULD wheeeeennnnn... I finally realized that "when" was never going to come if I didn't just do it. I'm not sorry I quit exactly ... just sorry that quitting has meant a loss of human contact because now it makes me feel ill to even be around people who have that smoke smell on them, never mind going outside on my lunch break at work and having EVERYONE blowing it all over the place. Put 8 or 10 women in an enclosure all smoking at once ... that's lunch. The only other option for a place to sit and eat something is the mop room; nice ambiance. So, it's tough ... but you can do it. I used the patch (by the way, contact your local hospital about a quit program ... the one here even pays for the patches and provides an actual live support group which you can attend, even though the meetings conflicted with my work schedule so I didn't)and it helped a lot, I don't think I could have done it without. Anyway ... go for it ... and if you need to talk to me feel free to do that ... anything I can do to encourage. Elizabeth

Hi Rosepetal, I am a soon to be non smoker. I have made a commitment to myself to quit as soon as I hit a certain weight. Your friend know why you quit. Just wanted to get some weight under control before I quit smoking as I was already depressed about the weight. May slow the weight loss down but hopefully I will have some good eating habits and won't put to much on. We are all friends here and you will love the site. Stick to it and you will have changed all kinds of area's of your life. Good for you Linda

| Hi ... thanks for your reply .. hope you had a happy Thanksgiving. I guess I don't feel that I have friends now that I don't smoke ... Probably they were never friends to begin with. I'm pretty much alone except for the people I see at work. I lost most of my teeth due to nicotine depleting the bone mass in my mouth, and now that I have given up smokes and lost my teeth I feel like there isn't a lot left for me. I'm gaining weight, I have no teeth, and I have no man in my life. Is the depression, and the weight gain, and the loss of sleep, and the fear all due to nicotine withdrawal? Did you find that to be true?

Hi Rosepetal
Welcome to SP....you'll find everything you need here to help you on your way to a healthier lifestyle.
I quit smoking 30+ years ago...a pack of smokes back then cost $0.75...I shake my head when I think of today's prices. I can still remember how difficult it was especially when friends were still lighting up. Keep reminding yourself that you've taken a first step to a healthier you and that you're counting on the support of your friends even if they've chosen to smoke.
It took me a few weeks to navigate through SP but I can honestly say I'm learning and the info on this site is phenomenal...so take the time and just browse.
Have fun and good luck...I look forward to hearing how you are doing. Take care.

Hi people ... I'm just trying this out ... looking for friends in the same boat as I am. I have a few to lose ... more now than I did a few months ago since I quit smoking. I've noticed lately that even though I don't snack a whole lot more than usual, and I don't exercise any less than usual, the pants are beginning to be a bit tighter lately. Very discouraging ... It's also hard when most of my aquaintances smoke, and some have even questioned WHY I would want to quit (DUH???) Anyone out there having those same experiences?
