good morning all, i have been moving for hours-i think that's one of the BIG differences that i see-I make excuses to move now, instead of sending someone else or driving short distances! Everyone have a great weekend

Good Morning! My get-up-and-move got motivated to add 10% minutes to work-outs. That means my cardio 45-min will become 50-min. and strength 15-min. will become 17-min.
Decided to try this since I have been on a plateau for several months... gaining / losing the same two pounds.
Anyone ever try adding small increases like this? Did it help keep one motivated?

Reading everyone's success stories is such a motivation! And, I'm in need of it, especially strength training. Got out of it over the years, now it's a struggle.
Judy, did you get your get-up-and-move unstuck? *lol* I have an Outlook calendar reminder now: every hour. It can be annoying, but it does get me up and moving, even if it's pacing my office. 8^)

Amen, to what everyone else has said, and welcome. At our age any improvement we make will be great. I, also was a slug-preSpark, but now I can walk a brisk 2 miles! When I first started walking, I was lucky to go 20 minutes and I'd get home huffing and puffing! It all comes together with time and I figure I have all the time in the world as this WILL be a lifestyle change, not a diet. I exercise regularly now and feel bad if I don't! I get my water in, but still fighting a battle with a life time of food issues, but I am determined to win.

Hi Judy! (I'm new here, too BTW). Be generous with yourself. If you aren't, who else will be? Especially when it comes to improving nutrition and exercise.
You've found SparkPeople, which is a wonderful resource. You've also taken that leap of faith in yourself.
Hope to talk with you and many of the others on this Forum over the course of time.

| Hi Judy I think you are exactly right it has to be a lifestyle change. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am 59 and until a little over a month ago I never exercised even when I was on one of my "diets". Then I joined Sparks are started reading, for the first time I realized that I had to change my lifestyle not just cut back on food. I started a walking program. In the first week I was lucky to be about to walk about a half an hour and that was almost at a crawl LOL. This week I have been averaging an hour a day and sometimes an afternoon walk for another half hour. We have had rainy weather for the past couple of days so I haven't been about to get out so I have been using one of my walking tapes and my exercise bike. My advice is just to take it one step at a time. If you are like me and aren't used to exercising every step you take is one step further than you did yesterday. One other thing I would suggest is that you join one of the many challenges to help keep you motivated. I am in one called the sexy grandma challenge, you dont have to be a grandma to join lol we are just a friendly group of ladies we are sticking together to beat our weight problems. There is a link to the challenge on my sparks page if you would like to check us out. Good luck and I hope to talk with you again. MJ
