Duster2,

It sounds like you are off to a great start! Just remember in a few weeks when you get to that place that you think you want to give up.......get on here and get motivated by your spark friends. Glad to hear that you got a walk in!

Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your reply. Boy! you have come along way, CONGRATS! I just hope I dont give up after a few weeks, like so many times before.I went down 3 pounds in the last 3 days, probably fluid (all those trips to the washroom) with the increase of water I have been drinking.not to mention my bathroom is upstairs (more exercise). I kept within my limits the last2 days, so one day at a time. I have been exercising as much as possible too. even a 25 minute walk today. Was it a long journey for you? thanks for the support Sharon

Dancing sounds like great fun and good exercise! I know that eventually I will have vary what I do or I am going to get bored. so, I will keep that in mind for the next time I'd like something new.

Sharon, I know that I worry a little too that this won't last and I'l get tired of it. But we will be there for each other to encourage and motivate. That's the best thing about this! Hope your day is great! nancy

The dancing exercise sounds great, and if you get yourself into a routine you should do just fine.

I find that whenever things start disrupting my routine is when I tend to get in trouble. I understand the lack of exercise, I never exercised except for occasionally walking in my entire life until I started on this journey last October and joined the gym with my daughter(aka my buddy).

Hi Nancy (nillly willy),
Thanks for the hope I have to go one day at a time because Ima sure they wont be all the same, I have a habit of sticking with things for a couple of weeks then slipping back to the same old routine, I hope this will be different, I really need to lose this weight especially for health reason, I take 8 pills a day and I know atleast 5 could be elimanated by weight lose, mostly BP pills as premature heart attacks run in my family and I really would like to live past 60, and not to mention have more energy and look better. So Iam off to a good start so far. Thanks for you help Sharon (aka duster2)

Hello Deana,
I think I have worked out a exercise program from home,My husband is away trainning for Afganastan in January, so he needs the car, so I go for small walks but I had a dancing tape with fast dancing and I did that yesterday plus some weight trainning and watched what Iate so I had a good day, I hope the energy doesnt give out and I go back to the same old routine again, I do eat quite healthy its lack of exercies that has keep the weight on over the last 10 years.Iam a home care worker for a 93 year old lady who likes to sit and talk so I sit alot there, then at home most of the time it is just me, so not much to do there either, so i need the exercise. so wish me luck Thanks Sharon aka duster2

Duster,

Deana brings up a great point. If you can find some walk fit videos, you can get all the benefits of a good walk right in front of your TV screen and never leave home. We have fitness videos on our local cable system from Comcast on demand and the walk fit is one of my favorites for rainy days or when I just don't feel like going out. It looks like you're off to a great start. Good luck!

Hi, Just wanted to wish you well and success with your weight loss goals. Sounds like you hava a few obstacles keeping you at home. Have you tried any of the exercises recommended in the Fitness section of SP?
Also, you might try some of the workout videos. Some are pretty good I am told, I don't used them personally. I have a workout buddy, we go to the gym and walk most days. Which is a great way to do this. My buddy needs to lose about 100 pounds so I am there for her.

Good Luck
Deana

Duster, the weight ticker at the bottom of the messages......do you have a spark page yet? If you go to sparkpages and create one for yourself there will be a place where they ask you to create your weight ticker and you can check it there if you want it to appear in your messages.

Good job on the dancing! You are off to a good start!

Duster,

If you can get to the mall, sometimes they have a bulletin board about the local "mallwalkers" events and if you can find out some names, you could possibly get a ride from some of the regulars.

Eight months and seventy pounds ago, I was seeing BP readings of 170 over 90 and my resting heart rate was 72 to 78. My irregular heartbeat was getting really bad and I was having dizzy spells. Now, I typically never have BP out of normal range and my resting heart rate is in the fifties and sometimes even in the high forties. No more dizziness and the heart is as regular as a clock. Don't give up the fight. You *can* win. Just never quit, even on bad days. There's always tomorrow and a fresh new day.

I just had a thought about the water drinking as well. Not only does a lot of water have positive effects on your metabolism and keep you flushed out... getting up and running to the bathroom all the time is good exercise!

Hello Nilly Willy,
Thank you for the message, I just begun the sparks program yesterday. I have been trying everything, I even see a dietician once a month. I do eat pretty healthy and was never overweight until i reached 40, I weigh 208 i would like to get to 145 or lower, Iam 52, my husband is away alot (he is in the mitary) and I dont drive so Iam home alot.I really want to lose weight and get off these blood pressure pills and feel good about myself again. I cant seem to do it alone I think I need some kind of support system that is why I came to sparks.I live in New Brunswick, Canada. I could sure use a weight lose friend. I hope to hear back from you.How do you get those weight scale icons next to your message. thanks Sharon

Yes, walking at the mall is a good idea. I used to do that all the time and you get to know the other walkers and feel safe. Keep thinking about how you can be creative in finding ways to burn those calories.

I just read an article about how drinking water helps your metabolism work. That in itself is a motivation for me. That could be another good place to start! Have a good day!

You don't say if you have a car or not, but if so, can you get to a mall? They are a great place to walk. Many have morning walking programs prior to mall hours. You might also try the buddy matching forum here on the Message Boards to see if you can find someone in your area that would walk with you, maybe even clubs. How about a bike? Also, don't forget public multi-story buildings with stairs. How about good old fashioned calisthenics? As suggested elsewhere, check out the Resource Center for articles and expert advice. Get involved and committed and you'll be amazed at what will happen. Good luck!

What has worked for me so far is definitely tracking my food and exercise. I count calories and add them into the Nutrition Tracker every day. I also try to get the amount of water suggested but haven't done quite as good on tracking that. I go to Curves 3-4 times a week, walk 2 miles another day and play golf. That is what I am doing now.

I really suggest reading articles in the resource center. They are very helpful. It must be hard being alone. My husband is retired and we are together most of the time. You are lucky not to have had a weight problem until 40. I was put on my first diet when I was 7! It's been a lifelong struggle.

So, what are you going to try to do first? Let me know and I'll be your cheerleader! nancy

Duster2,

I don't know where you are on your journey but I am here to encourage you. I figure you must be over 50 since you are in this forum. We are all struggling with making changes after a lifetime of weight on and off, etc. We are here for you! Tell me what you are doing and how I can help. nancy
