Good Morning everone,

I'm up early this morning only because I fell asleep on thye couch at 8:30 last night. DOn't know why I was so tired, must be that age thing. Never in my life did I think I would turn into a morning person. I use to be the type that would stay up until 2 0r 3 in the morning and thyn sleep until noon. I kind of like this way better. I never really knew what mornings were like. Now on the weekends or Sunday anyway, I can get up have coffee, read the paper and enjoy a little quiet time. My husband never sees fit to get up before 7:30 or 8:oo so I get an hour or two to myself.

My big plans for today are a nice long bike ride along the river. The weather here has been great. In the upper 70's with a slight breeze. Oh how I wish it was like this all the time. I no longer enjoy winter with the snow and ice and freezing temperatures. I am definitely moving SOuth when I retire.

Points for yesterday were, exercise - 10 (1 hour water jogging & 45 min hiking), water - 2, tracking - 2, eating dinner out sensibly -2, positive thought - 1, posting - 1 so my totals look like this 18/34/38 for yesterday and I start today at 0/52/38.

Today I shall be the best that I can be, do the best that I can do and not beat myself up if I error as I am only a human being and therefore I am not perfect.

Enjoy your day.

Pam,

I wish I'd heard that saying before I had dinner. :-) I went out with my mom for a gyro. I love them but this one was so big that I couldn't finish it. And I finish everything! Of course we shared an appy and a greek salad, but too much food.

Okay, so I'm ending my day with 2-tracking, 1-thought, 2 - posting, 5-exercise, and 2 for water. I'm going to give myself 1 pt for eating somewhat sensibly (I didn't have a drink or desert, and didn't finish all that food).

So for today 13/44/49.

Lynn,

I love what you wrote -
Those old hurts and fears have important messages but sometimes I don't want to hear what they are saying.

I also enjoyed that quote!

Looks like you are doing really fabulous! Good for you. No wonder you lost three pounds. Okay, so I'm counting you for 42 pts last week and 90 points this week. Hope you had a great day.

Cathi,

That was a great post! It's amazing to me that you're jealous of Lyn for having a weekend alone. I've had every weekend alone since 1989! Talk about the grass is always greener . . . No seriously, I do understand what you're saying, though.

Thanks for that info on changing diet goals. I'm going to try to do that when I'm done.

Have you always been legally blind? If you can, would you talk about it a little more?

Okay, I'm going to try to go change my goals, and then I'll come back here.

Robin
ps = Well, I sort of figured out how to do it in an "unscientific way". I looked at the "where your calories are coming from pie chart and saw that 30% fat, 55% carbs, and 15% protein. I changed it so that I lowered my carbs and increased my protein. Only thing is, when I went back to my little pie chart of where your calories are coming from - I sort of hoped that the pie chart would change. So the thing that changes are just your numbers on the left. Is that right?

ps2- your numbers look great. Looks like you've been working really hard - good for you!

Robin you are right it is 6 points, I am so use to WW and their point system that I just forgot which was which. In WW I get 4 for an hour. So I have 36 total for the week.

Cathi, Lyn is right they do make them so larger people can wear them. I imagine you could find them in a sporting goods store, but I got mine at the YMCA where I swim. I hope you think about it and maybe try it out. At the Y when people start out they have a bunch of them hanging around for people to use. Also if you don't belong to the Y but want to do an aerobics class you can sign up. You pay a little more but it is a way to try something out to see if you like it and if you take a class you learn how to do things the correct way.

I got up and went water jogging this morning and it felt so good to be back in the pool. I was in for an hour so that is 6 points, I'm working on my water and we are now going to go take the dog for a walk or a hike. That will probably be another hour of exercise. It just feels good to be normal again.

Remember, a minute in your mouth, an hour in your stomach and a year on your hips. I love that saying it helps me remind me before I stuff food in my face that I don't really need.

Have a good day everyone,.

Good morning,

Thanks Mari for posting the information. This is a great group. You know, even though I didn't hit the big 5-0 quite yet, I was pleased to find a group of women who are childless, either by choice or not. This is such a nice change!

The challenge is helping to keep me focused as well. My mood hasn't been wonderful though. Sometimes I just feel like a grumpy old bag! LOL Those old hurts and fears have important messages but sometimes I don't want to hear what they are saying.

Saturday is my weigh in and I lost 3 pounds. My weight was up and down this week, but yesterday I really drank the water, and voila, there was the loss!

Also, I've decided that I'm going to take a "Body for Life" approach in regard to having a *free* day. Saturday is my day to eat whatever I want. So all week, whenever I got a craving I told myself that I could have it on Saturday. I already ate some salty food that I was craving, but I think I'm BACK to reality already. We'll see how it all works.

I still haven't figured out the totaling system;
Points to Sep 30 were 42. This week so far from 1 Oct to 6 Oct were 90 points = total points of 132. Thanks for the incentive!

I'm another who enjoys aquacize even though I'm not a great swimmer. We have a large group in our town. Yes, there are belts for adults and most pools I've been to in our province have a few on hand. Some of our ladies weigh over 200 and the belts fit them. Another thing that's great for non-swimmers is to water run (in deep water with the belt on).

There's so much I want to say but my posts get too long.

More later,
Lyn

1-thought for the day; 1-posting here; 5-exercise; 2-no food after 7:30; 2-sensible restrnt eating; 2-h2O; 2-food tracking = 15. So as of Thursday eveing I'm 15/54/0.

Puh-leeeeassse tell me I've got it right finally.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Robin, thanks for the tutorial on the points, I've got it now (finally)! As far as Mari's chart, I just copied it and pasted it into a word document. I like to do that so I can increase the font. Being legally blind, this helps me a lot!

One editing note though. I'm not married. We have been together for 26 years but we've never married. (Just ask my mother!)

Lyn, I am so jealous of you right now. I haven't had a weekend alone in..........over six years. It sounds heavenly. I just melt when I get a few hours alone which might happen once a month.

I also would like to work from home but haven't come up with anything that fits. Because of my eyesight I cannot drive so to be able to work at home would be wonderful.

Pam, where do you think I could find one of these bouyancy belts - to fit someone who weighs 250? I've seen them for children but not my size. I took a water aerobics class (a friend was the instructor) and it was a bit scary - the water is pretty high and there is so much movement. I only went about three times. It was quite a workout.

My sister and I want to open a small shop selling gourmet and hot foods. We also wanted to sell some of the "related" liquor but since the license will cost the same no matter how much booze we sell, we decided to carry it all. We plan to specialize in healthy wines. My boyfriend is a self-made expert in that.

Pam, have you thought about linking up with a gourmet food or wine store in your area. If you are a regular customer, they might agree to display your flyers in their store. One local wine store does that for a nearby biz that lets folks come in and prepare meals for a week. If they have wine tastings, maybe you could even provide tiny hor'doerves along with you flyer or ad. They did this recently (also at this wine store) and included a guy would served tiny amounts (maybe a tbsp) of cucumber soup and another soup. We got his card and plan to order some of the things he sells when we open our store.

Mari, thanks for the list. I had started a spreadsheet at work - even trying to keep track of professions and pets. Your list is much nicer!

I'm not sure how I get my SparkPoints to show. I'll have to check - I didn't even realize they did.

Robin, as far as the 40/30/30, I guess this is like the zone diet. I know it got me to eat a lot more protein and few carbs (my downfall). To change my daily range I just went to "my spark page" and clicked on "change diet goals." On about the 4th page is "set up your nutrition program." Here I clicked on the edit button next to each of fat, carbs, and protein and put in my own numbers based on my calories for the day. Then keep saving/continuing until you are back at "my spark page."

Is there a prize for the longest post ever?
No? Ok, then I will

Morning everyone,

Pam, if you walked for an hour, shouldn't you get 6 pts instead of 4?

Well, it's a new day and I already walked and drank two glasses of water, so I'm way ahead of the game. :-) Here's a cute saying:
Winning starts with beginning.

So, laundry's up, friends are going out for dinner - but I think I'll just meet them for a drink - better for my diet and budget. My life feels like it's filled with errands. And cleaning. I'm off . . .

Have a great day everyone!

Hi all,

Robin I'm sorry you had a rough day. Had one of those yesterday myself but today was far better all around. Distributed my door hangers so I walked for an hour for 4 points, tracked for 2, posted for 2, thought for the day for 1, water - 2, for a total of 11/34/38.

Well I got about 4 hours of sleep last night so I am off to bed. Have to get up at 5:30.

Good Night all

Ladies,

Okay well I had another stressful day, and though I tracked (I forced myself to)
I ate at least 150-200+ calories over and if I told you all the crapola I ate you'd be nauceous. Sometimes I gross even myself out!

Here's how I ended the day- 2 pts tracking, 1 pt thought for the day; 2 pt posting; and that's it unless I drown myself in h2o in the next 2 hrs, which I doubt. So:

5/39/49

(note to those who still are having a hard time with this numbering system -
tomorrow morning when I start I will be 0/44/49. If tomorrow were a monday, then it would be 0/0/93. )

Goodnight everyone!

Cathi,

(Ok, my point for yesterday are: 2-thought for day; 2-posting here; 8-ea 10 min exercise; 2-no food after 7:30pm; 2-sensible restaurant eating; 2-h20; 2-food tracking = 20 points for Thursday! If I have 54 so far since Monday, how do I show that? 20/54/54?
That would be 20 for the day, 54 so far this wk, and 54 so far this month? )

The way I would do it would be 20/34/0. Tomorrow morning it would be
0/54/0. On Monday, the 54 gets moved over (of course it will be much more than that!) to the last spot and you start again. Does that make sense?

Wow! You sure can tell its Friday.. Either you are ready to get this day over with or just happy its finally here - but there is alot of chatter here this morning.. :)

My points thru Thurs = 7/26/34 ( 2 -post 2-water 1-quote) making it a start for today 0/33/34

I forget to post it sometimes.

I was BAAAAAD last night!! I made a desert DH loves and had some.. I won;t even tell you about it just because I don't want to be responsible for your actions...

I had to go to Wally world after work (Wal-mart) and spent way more money than needed. Why is that? Honestly I bought stuff we needed and would you believe it when I got home FORGOT items like paper towels and ziplock baggies?? Now I will have to run by the $ store on my way home today.. Just never ends.
As for plans this weekend - my husband's brother and SIL are coming up Saturday and staying with us Sat. night. My nephew and his buddy are coming by Sat. afternoon and hang out until my brother his Dad gets off of work. I have to take my dog Abby to the groomers - run by the pool supply store and pick up a pool liner -clean the house and clean the carpet in the spare bedroom/office. Make up 3 dozen deviled eggs, 2 dips, stuffed jalepeno peppers, cook mushrooms and then go to SIL and BIL's for a cook out at 6:00.. SHEW! I'm tired already... Not really - I do plan to work on some of this list tonight...

Cathi I liked your quote for the day too! thanks and like Pam said if you could ever take swimming lessons you would never look back!!
I did read that article and saved it to my favorites but need to re-read it!! Thanks for the reminder.

Lyn , I would love working from home. My DH tried to start a business twice without success and that was MY plan to quit and work for him. so here I sit... I'll bet there are some pretty good fringe benefits too!

Pam - I know you are ready for Sat. so you can get back in that water..... Happy for you!!

Robin and Pam - when my Dad was in the nursing home there were 2 nurses that got so attached to my Dad they even came to his funeral and I got attached to a little lady there but stopped going once my dad past away and feel bad about it but just could not bring myself to go back there. Like you said there are certain ones that can make you feel close to them. thanks for sharing that story Robin.

SparkP - my weather here in Ms. dropped at least 15 degrees in one night. No kidding - yesturday it was around 83 and today is 63 or 67 and windy.. Infact there is a fire out of control in the downtown area in Memphis, Tn. right now. Started in a church built in 1896 and has spread to 3 other buildings.

Well I have been rambling as usual.. Sorry!!

I will go and track my meals..

Be back later with my thought for the day..

Cathi that was cute. Thanks for the laugh I needed it. Yes I do swim 4-5 days a week. DUring the week I swim for an hour and on Saturday anywhere from 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hrs. That depends on if I stay for the water aerobics class. I feel bad for anyone who can't swim and is afraid of the water. If you ever get a chance to go in a pool try to find a belt to wear and it will keep you afloat and it is fun. I do water aerobics with some people who can't swim and are afraid of the water bur they use the belt and really enjoy it. Just a thought. Anyway enough of my yacking.

Can I ask what kind of business are you starting? I think that's neat because I am also in the process of getting my business up and running. I'm just having a hard time getting the word out. I am a Personal Chef and a lot of people in my area have never heard of that. It's been around quite awhile on the coasts but as uusual the Midwest, at least where I live, is about 3 years behind the times in everything. I will not give up though. I am going to hang in there and make it work. I am that determined. And I wish you and your sister good luck in getting started.

Hi Pam and Robin and everyone else!

It's 7:00 am here.

This weekend is Canadian thanksgiving. Usually we cook a turkey and have company for the weekend. It's just a small group; hubby's son, his mother, my mother and us. His mother lives 4 hours north of us and his son lives 2 hours east of us. My MIL is another old lady; she's 87. So, I don't work with the elderly, but am just involved with helping our mothers. I think that it must be very difficult to work with elderly people and important to keep a certain amount of distance. In some cases it might be rewarding and in other cases it might be frustrating? LOL

This weekend hubby is even further up north, working in the bush. The son is also self-employed and extremely busy, so I'll be on my own this weekend. I'm a Hermit by nature, so I'm OK with that. :-)

Hopefully, I'll get some work done while he's away from home.

Have a great day!

Good morning everyone!

Yeah it is Friday and it is payday. Cha ching!$!
Now at least the rent check won't bounce.

Robin, I'll go back into my Spark pages and figure out how I changed the daily numbers and then I'll come back to explain. It's been a long time so I'll have to refresh my memory.

Gee, you sound so glum about being in 12's and 14's when I'm sitting here in a 22. But I know it's all relative. When I was smaller, I was so embarrassed when I had to start wearing double digits. When I was shopping in the 10's and someone came near, I'd flip quickly to the 8's. Now I'd love to be in an 18 again and not have to shop in plus-sized stores. But I do remember how it felt even in a smaller size to know I was overweight so I do understand.

Pam, glad to hear you are healed and able to get back to your exercise. You swim a lot, right? That is something I never learned to do. My mother was scared of the water (still is) and all of us kids learned that from her. I love to play in the ocean and in the pool but I never go very deep. I'd love to get over this fear because swimming appears such a wonderful activity.

As for plan for the weekend, it is supposed to be raining and cold here in Va Beach so we will be staying in. My sister and I are hoping to open a biz in the next few months and are working on a biz plan. We got someone to critique what we've done so far and we have some work to do!!! So that is our project for the weekend.

Ok, my point for yesterday are: 2-thought for day; 2-posting here; 8-ea 10 min exercise; 2-no food after 7:30pm; 2-sensible restaurant eating; 2-h20; 2-food tracking = 20 points for Thursday! If I have 54 so far since Monday, how do I show that? 20/54/54?
That would be 20 for the day, 54 so far this wk, and 54 so far this month?

My thought for the morning is from Calvin and Hobbes (I really miss that strip): "Calvin: 'People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realize how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.' Hobbes: 'Isn't your pants zipper supposed to be in front?'"

Now it's time for my tea. Have a good one ladies,
Cathi

Good Morning everyone,

I'm the first one up so I guess I get to start us off for the day. It is Friday and the end of another week. Anyone have any great plans for the weekend? Myself, this afternoon after work I am going out and distribute door hangers advertising my business. So I will kill two birds with one stone, I will get the word out and I will get exercise. Something I have been lacking in this week. Everything is all cleared up and now I get to resume my normal activities.

Robin and Mary I know what you mean about getting attached to residents. I have a quiet office and all the Alzhiemers end up coming in here to sit and sleep in the chair. When I first started there was one in particular that practically lived in my office while I was at work. I got so close to her and then she passed away. It did hurt just like losing a family member. I kind of watch it now and try not to get that close but it is hard. Some of them are so sweet and precious you cannot help getting close. If I was a nurse and had to take care of them everyday that I think would be difficult. I guess you just learn to accept it and you have to believe that they are in a better place and that that's what's best for them. I know I am rambling so I'll stop.

My points for yesterday were posting -2, tracking -2, thought for the day - 1, water-2, for a great big total of 7. I do have to start trying a little harder.

Thought for the day: Have great hopes and dare to go all out fof them. Have great dreams and dare to to live them. Have tremendous expectations and believe in them.

Hi ladies,

Wow, there's a lot of posting going on while I'm at work.

Lynn - your mom sounds like an awesome lady. God bless her!
Was it your quote about the flower. I believe that is from Anais Nin.

Cathi- your eating plan is the zone. I didn't know you can tell the program how you want to eat. How do you do that - where do you start?

Mari - as for handling getting close to the residents - well, not all of them become your special favorites. We had the sweetest lady move in almost a month ago. This, after she would come to "visit" us over a period of many months. I finally insisted that my assistant call Adult Protective Services. She actually lived with her brother and SIL, but she was lonely for her own friends. She moved in and was so happy. Definitely a bit of dementia, but so sweet. Last Thursday, I walked her up to the main building - holding hands all the way. Today, I found out that she died. She hadn't been feeling well, went to 2 different doctors and the hospital twice. Ended up having a massive heart attack. I feel privledged to have taken that walk with her. I am sorry she wasn't there longer bc she really did enjoy every single minute. However, I'm glad I wasn't more attached bc it hurts.

As for clothes sizes - well, I threw out the size 14's the minute I got into 12's again. I have a couple of 10's. That's it. Well, I think I have one suit in the closet that's an 8. (yeah, like that's a reality) . . .

Cathi - it's up to you whether you want to list the points. for me, it's part of the affirmaton.

So, here's how my day ended up: 2-tracking,1 thought of day; 5 -10 minutes exercise ; 2 - h2o= 10

soooo - 10/29/41 (tomorrow morning it will be 0/39/41)

Have a great night everyone!
