Good morning ladies,
Okay, I was reading a meditation and have to admit right here that I still have done nothing to "formally" commit - no written goals. It's a goal of mine - hehe -to do that. But I do know how important they are and also to imagine them. So that being said, If we keep our goals in our mind we are sure to get there if we keep going back to it again and again.
BTW, the training went really well. I am proud of myself. My boss saw it and complimented me on it twice. :-) I really am in a great place. I've never been here before. I have a lot to be grateful for. Okay, I'm off for a very early morning. Have a great day, stay off your feet Pam!

Pam,
You really need to be very, very careful with cellulitis. Please! I've seen what happens when people are not careful and it's really, really not pretty!
That's awesome about the weight loss - hopefully it'll stick by next week! Just keep looking on the good side.
Okay, regarding my points for the day: 1 for the thought 2 for posting 4 for exercise
that's it. I'd like to claim for eating sensibly - but I don't think so. There was this pretzle combination thing, and I ate about six pieces. Then I had a bite ofsomeone's garlic bread. For dinner I had clams and calamari in red sauce over linguine. I left over almost half of it for dinner tomorrow night. I did stay away from the bread, but I think I lose points for the pretzle thingy. Maybe one pont. Okay, that's what I'll do.
8/10 Robin

Mari,
I know. It sucks. I know. Just give yourself a break here. No beating yourself up about this. I know you're doing the best you can. Wasn't it you that said one day at a time????

| Hey Pam, let us know what the dr. says about your poor foot!
|
|
|
|
OK Thanks to both of you for the explanation. I'm really not that stupid, it's just I've never done anything like this before. Never even communicated with more than one person at a time and usually by e-mail.
Anyway, my sad news is I am out of the water for a couple of weeks at least. I have athletes foot and cellul;itis and since I am a diabetic this can be very serious. Am on antibiotics for the next ten days and have to report back to the doctor on Thursday to make sure nothing has spread. I guess I will have to walk for awhile. Except for today my husband said I should stay off my feet and let the antibiotic take effect.
Well yesterday I posted two times, drank my water and believe it or not ate nothing after 7:30pm. So I have 6 for yesterday. Today I have had my water, posted twice (and I lost a pound since I went to the doctor's last Thursday but I won't count that since it's not my official weigh-in day) so I have 4/10 right? Probably all I'll get for today unless I stop eating by 7:30. So good luck to all of us and this is kind of neat and makes me more aware of what I am doing. Hopefully it will help. Talk to you tomorrow.

Tips for Dining Out.......Things we know but not using...
Order dressings and sauce on the side
Avoid the temptation of eating table snacks (bread,rolls,chips etc) by first asking your dining companions if they would like to indulge in them. If yes, simply slide the snack their way.. If no, ask server to remove them.
Plan ahead, don't go so hungry that you can't resist the table snacks. If your'e really hungry have a small snack and a glass of water before you leave to go. (water makes you feel full)
Most meals come with a vegy and a starch. Skip the starches.. Order extra vegy's in place of the starch (rice, potato or pasta)
Use the "hand method"when eating out. Meat = size and thickness size about the size your palm Salad = size of both hands together fruit or vegy = eat a handful amount Fish = thickness of the center of your palm, length of your hand and the width of 3 fingers
WHEN in doubt - ask for a "to go" box before you start to eat and put Half your meal in it!!
This was taken form Gunnar Peterson's Core Secrets Book ..

Hey!
Glad your liking this Robin. You are already jumping out there. Good luck today on your training at work. I am sure you will make it interesting.
I meant to comment yesturday on "thin people's eating habits".. Hanging with my SIL all weekend (she is maybe 5' and weighs 100) I also observed her eating .. Example - Sat. a.m. I fixed us a frozen Rudy Farm biscuit (2 per pkg) when they were ready she said we could have just had one package and split it. Now myself I would have eaten both biscuits since their not much bigger than a silver dollar - but since she said that I said okay and gave one package to David.. Then came lunch time. She was getting a headache so we got from McDonalds where I never eat of all things a double cheeseburger. She ate 1/2 - I ate it ALL! So I know what your talking about..
So today my "Thought for the day is"
When in doubt, use the hand method for portion control!!!
Pam I will try and make this a little clearer.
Yesturday my points were:
1 point for posting (2 max per day) = 2 2 points for not eating past 7:30 = 2 2 points for drinking 32 oz or more = 2 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~= 6 So starting out today it looks like this 0/6 Since I have now posted and have a thought for the day 2/6
So say this is all I do the rest of the day Tomorrow will look like 0/8
Does that help any??
So its agreed - we will all weigh in on Monday's Starting next Monday October 2nd...
Mari
Pam and I were posting at same time ( Did not need me to explain seh got it Sorry!!)

Robin,
Thanks now I get it. Maybe it's because I couldn't see very well last night who knows. Anyway my day is not starting off to good. I got up to get swimming got to the Y and took off mysocks and my foot was all red. Couldn't go swimming and I have to go to the doctor later this AM. I have more problems with my feet than I care to admit. However I shall perservere one day at a time. That is my positive thought for the day. Now I gotta go back and figure out my points from yesterday, not a whole and start keeping track today. I guess I will go for a walk this afternoon as I will be out of the pool until my foot heals. Talk with you later and thanks for the explanation.

Pam,
I'm sorry, I confused you. The first number is what you've done today. The second number is what you've done so far this week (not counting today). If that's too confusing, Mari will straighten me out. :-)
So, yesterday I ended up finishing with a 5. So I start today with 0/5. However, it's a new day and my thought for today is that it's all about perseverence. If we just keep on keeping on, with the goal in sight, we will get there. The people who fail are those who give up. Okay, that gives me 1/5. However . . . I just walked for 48 minutes so I get another 4 points for that so I'm 5/5.
I'm liking this. Today I have my first training at work - I am responsible now for training all of our (almost 100) employees. I just want to make it interesting and fun. Keeping my fingers crossed

OK guys I'm lost. What is 3/0 and 3/25 and 0/4 mean? ALl I know is I got my water in and I have posted. Not too good today. I also weigh in on MOnday morning, but this morning was disgusting after the weekend. Myself, I use to love IHOP and couldn't wait until we got one here. When we finally did I went there mainly for the buckwheat pancakes (THat's the only thing I really enjoy ther) and lo and behold they don't have them anymore. Or at least not in this area. I almost walked out the one time I went there I was so upset. Use to go every Sunday morning when I lived in Boston. Also use to get them in Wisconsin. So I know it's not a regional thing. It's just a stupid Quad City thing. I live in the dumbest area there ever was.
By the way Robin you were making me salivate talking about all that good food. Oh I am doomed when I go in December. I know there will be no control and I am not going to fight it. Just enjoy it.
Had to go to the eye doctor today and my eyes are still slightly dialated so I am not seeing this screen to good. Therefore I can't be held accountalbe for the bad spelling or whatever other mistakes there are. Til tomorrow

Mari,
That was great! You did really good!
I think we should keep a running tab of daily/weekly
Right now, I'm 3/0. I hope to at least get the water in by the end of the day. So, assuming that's it, by tomorrow morning I will be 0/4 - or rather, when I post it will be 1/4. Did I make it confusing? In other words, by the end of the week, it'll look something like 3/25.
I weigh on Monday morning, but I can change that if you guys want to. But since we're starting here on a Monday, this might work for all of us.
Yeah!

This is what I came up with for our points and challenges
1 point for sharing thought for the day 1 point per day for each post to this thread (2 max) 1 point for each 10 minutes of exercise such as:(swimming,walking,aroebics,swiss ball)
2 points for not eating past 7:30 p.m. 2 points for eating at resturant sensibly 2 points per day for 32oz or more of water
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3 points per pound lost at weigh-in day (?? Do you have a weigh in day?) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What else do we want to add or take off.
Do we want to show our running tally at the end of each post? or just once a week??
Hello girls,
First while its still on my mind - Happy New Year you two!! I am not Jewish and do not know much about the food you mentioned but it does sound tempting and delicious.
Robin totally understand about the hashbrowns.. I had to eat some Saturday/Sunday morning myself.
As for the "thought for the day" it can be anything from a bible verse, a quote or just a personal thought that will make you (and us) feel good all day long.. I tend to wake up some mornings in a pissy mood even before my feet hit the floor. I read that starting off the day in a good mood helps.
So if you two have already started then right now we all have 1 point each for posting..
Pam,
Happy New Year to you too! Yes, you did spell bar mitzvah correctly. :-)
Well then, since you understand the food, you can imagine what my weekend was like. Gefilte fish, matzoh balls, noodle kugel, etc, etc. Yesterday friends took me to IHOP for lunch (I hadn't been there in 20 yrs) and I said no hash browns - they brought them anyway, and I ate every single bite. I gained back a half a pound, but I'll be darned if I'm going to let that stick. I'm going to drown myself in water today.
I didn't exercise this morning, either. I never got the call from my friend that I walk with and slept right through. Actually, I needed it, 'cause I stayed up to watch that new show, brothers and sisters.
I'm not exactly sure what we're supposed to do about that positive thought. But I'll put in my favorite basic thought: I am grateful to be alive. I am grateful for this life.
Mari - I think you need to give us guidance around the thought for the day. I think I'll probably post again later for that other point. :-)
Have a great day!
Good Morning,
Well it's Monday, a new week and I hope the beginning of getting back on track. If I have one more messed up weekend I think I will scream. It seems all I did was eat and all the wrong things. Enough is enough already. I'm going to try taking this thing one day at a time. I shall worry about what to eat only for today and do the very best I can. Didn't get to swim this morning because I have to leave work early for an eye doctor appointment so I came in before the Y opened. Maybe I will go for a walk this afternoon if I can see good enough. My eyes will be dialated and it's hard to see for a couple of hours afterwards.
Robin I now all about matzo ball soup and all the Goodies because my family is Jewish. I can't say as I am all that religious as I grew up in a split home. My parents were divorced when I was 3 and I lived with my dad who remarried a Presbyterian. However the rest of my family is reform. As a matter of fact I am planning on going to DC this December for my cousin's son is having his Bar Mitzvah and as you know that is a big event. (Did I spell that right?). My grandparents on my mother's side were Conservative so I grew up learning about keeping Kosher and also got to eat all the good food. She had to have been the world's greatest cook. Probably where all my eating habits began. By the way I have a lowfat Jewish cookbook if you can believe that. Noodle Kugel is my favorite. So let's all start the day off with a positive thought for the day and I like the point thingy idea along with all the others. Of course don't know if I will get any points today but I will do my best. Anybody have a good positive thought for the day?
Gotta get to work. Will check back later.
Pam
By the way Robin, Happy New Year.
Pam and Mari,
Okay, let's start this thing as of MOnday morning. There's a new moon tonight - so it's a great time to start a challenge. I'm so game!
|
|
|
|
Mari,
I like that point thingy. Pam, what do you think?
|
|
|
|
Mari,
Well, $7.88 an hour isn't really enough payment . . . however you are just starting up and I'd bet that you'll be much faster as you go along and gain experience and confidence. $550 is a good number - numerologically it's a "1" and that is new beginnings, which is very appropriate! Good for you.
I think my mom has that same "manipulation factor" as yours. :-)
Okay, so we're talking drinking water, no food after 7:30 and being very careful when going out to eat. When are we starting this? Or did we already? Also, sharing one positive thought. That might be a lot of fun. I used to keep a gratitude journal and it was wonderful.
Thank you for your words about losing fat and gaining muscle. Logically, that must be happening, but I must tell you, when I look at my thighs, I still cringe. There's just so much cellulite all over and they're real flabby. I guess the muscle is hiding underneath?
The weather here is cool and clear. The trees are all changing and it's wonderful. I think it's supposed to rain late Sat and Sun but I"m not positive. I see my family for our holiday dinner tomorrow. I will try to not overeat. Ah, I can see I'm not commited. Try is not good enough. There's more work to be done!
Have a great weekend!
Robin
Hi Pam,
Yeah I hear you about enjoying my mom. I do know what you mean. However, it still applies to dad's. I wasn't particularly close to my dad - we had a "troubled" relationship, to say the least. But what I wouldn't give to spend a little time with him now!
Enough of that!
I have the same problem when going out. Mari, do you have it too? If so, then that would be a good thing for the 3 of us to focus on. I just can't seem to order "diet-type" foods - I go for rich and fattening. I can usually resist the desert, but I have more than one drink and usually indulge in at least one pc of bread and a few bites of potatoe or some carb.
What I notice about "thin" women - like one of my sister in laws - is that she is very consistant. Every time we go out - she has a piece of fish. She enjoys a glass of wine, but no desert - ever. Do you guys notice that behavior too?
I'm in the midst of a season of Jewish Holidays. It will be a bit of a challenge the next couple of weeks. Things like matzoh balls, noodle pudding, which we only eat a couple of times a year, are right there and I can't not eat them! Do you two know what matzoh balls are? They serve them in chicken soup. They are supposed to be light and delicious.
Anyway, tgif!
I don't do the walking part but maybe I could earn a point for each 1/2 mile I swim. I also liked your idea of the positive thought to start the day. I have a book at work that has a positive thought or saying for each day of the year and I try to remember to read it before starting work. Sometimes it really helps and other times I just get lazy. So maybe we should start this Monday with a positive thought or action for the day.
Have a good weekend.
Found this on one of the messageboards.
Challenge they are doing for the whole month..
1 point per day for each post to this thread (2 max) 1 point per day for 8 or more cups of water 1 point for each 10 minutes of exercise 3 points per pound lost at weigh-in day 1 point per day for doing stretching exercises 2 points per day of 5000 or more steps on pedometer
We can add on or delete any of them. Do either of you use the pedometer? I don't but heard the Omron is a good one.. i may do that. Supposedly you should track 10,000 per day..
Well Pam that doesn't seem fair for you to have to do all the lawn and garden work.. Did you volunteer?? I lost my Dad last year and even though my Mom is a "gotta have it done NOW" kind of person I TRY to overlook it.. Its hard!! She no sooner gets one thing done and BAM! her she comes with something else needing done. There is no end to it. Sometimes I think she does this so we WILL HAVE to visit her LOL. Shes sorta sneaky like that. But I love her regardless. Since I live closer to her than anyone else I get to handle most of the problems :)
Robin - I tallied up our hours and we will have spent approx. 20 hours getting ready for this reception and subtracting the money spent - we are making $7.88 an hour each. Thats pretty CHEAP.. (asking $550.00) Will let you know how it goes. WE go tonight to the reherrsal dinner and will give them our bill then.. It is going to rain all weekend too. So what a mess this will be.
I am up for the challenge of nothing after 7:30 since that is a BIG problem for me... And the water challenge since WE can all benifit from it..
you know Robin you mentioned walking 15 miles a week and not losing - but think about the fact your in a size 10 SKINNY jeans.. You are losing fat and gaining muscle so thats probably why the stall of the scales. I'd rather be where you are than to lose abunch of fat and have skin hanging everywhere. (I know thats not a good visual - sorry)LOL.
That makes me think of another challenge. We have to think every morning we wake up with a positive thought to start our day. Have to write it down here to help each other stay focused too.
So what are your plans for the weekend. Your weather good? I love fall don't you. All the colors changing and being in the south the temp. dropping to where I can have my windows open and the air conditioner off.
My hubby's birthday is Sunday. He wants some hwy bars for his bike. LOL! Thats a Christmas present! He must have fell off the banana boat and hit his head. I will give him a gift certificate and he can add to it maybe. ..
Well better get to work. I am so glad its Friday..
have a good weekend girls and I will be back Monday.
Good Morning, Yeah! it's finally Friday and I have almost made it through this week. Today is our open house to celebrate 35 years that the facility has been here. That is what we have been preparing for all week. Yesterday the DON and I spend 7 hours outside trimming bushes, cutting grass and putting up decorations. Those were low bushes and since I can't kneel on my knees I had to bend over. Oh my aching back.
I also eat my fudgsicle around 7:30 or 8:00 at night too. My biggest problem anymore is when I go out to eat I can't seem to stick with my good habits and that is what's keeping me from losing. I do good all week and then boom we go out and I blow it. Don't know what's wrong I never use to do that.
Good for you Robin for wearing those jeans. If you continue to wear them it will keep you from gaining anything back because if they get too snug you'll know you are doing something wrong. Keep up the good work and you may get into a size 8. You never know.
How about a general challenge like a no splurge challenge. If you do it at night then you work on that, if you're like me and do it when you go out then work on that. That will cover all the splurging benefits. That's just my suggestion but I'm game for whatever.
I know mothers can drive us crazy but enjoy them while you can. I always complained about my mother being too controlling but I lost her 12 years ago and there I times I would give anything to have her to talk with. My dad is still alive but it's just not the same. Didn't mean to get depressing. None of that it's Friday and I'm just waiting for the day to end. Have a good one,.
Hi ladies,
Okay it sounds like both of you have ideas for us to have our own challenge. I'm game with whatever you two think up. Nothing after 7:30. That's when I have my sf fudgesicles. Grrr. I am game for whatever. I like the water challenge better though :-)
$500 sounds like a good starting price. I would start asking around for what established poeple charge. Then, drop it enough (20-25%) to make people stop and think. Charge that for the next few months until you get your confidence in place. That's what I would do, anyway. Then I'd raise the price up to make it fair.
I wore the jeans to the dermatologist and then to the office, and changed into a suit once there. I realized I had to get into them. They still fit! Ha ha!
My mom gets me nuts - I love her a lot. It's a much better relationship now than it used to be. I can not spend huge chunks of time with her. Small limited contact works best. A dinner here, a shopping trip there. With weeks in between. She lives about 40 minutes from me now. She lived in Florida for the last 18 yrs or so - just came back last year. The thing is she would come up to visit and stay at my brothers for 6 wks or so, and then come to me for 4/5 days at a time. I would suffocate!
Yes, at 17! She was a very plain looking lady singing very sad songs. I saw a pix of her on line - she had white hair!
See you guys later,
Robin
Hey girls,
Hope this day is starting out good for you.. Not been too bad here..
As for the reception: the bride said up front that she wanted us to do it and we only could if she paid us. But the amount was never discussed. Pam you are right this is a lesson learned and my SIL and I talked it over and as long as we get the money spent back we're okay with it. BUT I am giving her an itemized list of what we did spend and the hours and after thinking alittle more about it I am asking $500.00 total. Which really is only $300.00 we will split and to me thats pretty darn cheap for a reception ... I feel she will be okay with that.
Robin - PUT THOSE JEANS ON!!!! whats the hold up? They sure don't need to be in the drawer!! If your scared say your scared!! LOL! You sound like you have a close relationship with your Mom too. Does she live close by you?
On a board I belong to but don't frequent as much anymore we use to do challenges all the time. I know its only 3 of us but surely we can come up with something that will motivate us and kick these butts into gear. !!! One thing we always did was keep up with our water intake. Very important..
We can look around on this board and get us some ideas. october is coming up so we can make it for the month of October. I will be thinking...
Edit to say I thought of one: Can NOT EAT PAST 7:30 at night!!!! NOTHING!!!
Curiousity got the best of me so I looked it up:
"AT SEVENTEEN" -- Janis Ian. I learned the truth at seventeen That love was meant for beauty queens And high school girls with clear-skin smiles Who married young and then retired..... Now I remember... I liked her in the 70's - she puts me in mind of Carrol King...
Better run...
