Yes I'm over 50 (51 to be exact) and have no children and I'm quite happy that way, but why do people sympathise with me? I'm not odd, or peculiar, or "lacking" I'm happy. If my username can be googled then I'm not putting too much personal information down. Thanks for the tip. Just had my lunchbreak and had a 50 minute walk. Brilliant. Sun is shining, a few fluffy clouds. It's put a smile on my face and blisters on my feet! Tried on a few posh frocks in a posh frock shop and walked back to work. Happiness factor today. Pretty high.

Hi Nancy,
Welcome to April!

Hey all -- just wanted to pop in and say hello. I am doing well. I challenged myself to 100 days of staying totally on the weight watcher's program and I am now on day 80!! I have lost 15 pounds since the second week of January and have a total of 45 gone forever now! I spent much of last fall playing aroound with the same 5 pounds and decided I needed to get serious again. I am struggling with severe allergies right now - congested, bronchitis, the works. Get it every spring so I should be ready for it but I never am. It hit me hard this year. I think I am over the worst of it now, at least I am hoping I am!! Take care!

| I think the maternal [paternal] instinct is way over rated in our society. I think it is a marketing technique. Look at the money / opportunites involved - have a child and add up the bill. How sad that so many in our society think the only incentive we can offer to youth to encourage them to become responsible productive adult members of society is to convince them to procreate.

MAYANGEL,
The calorie chart, you requested, is on its' way to you. If you don't see it in your inbox, please check the junk mail folder as some providers place it there. Please let me know when you receive it. Thanks, Mandy

Hi, I have just been reading through this thread and learnt that if you google a username it will come up. I have just googled my own name and the Sparkpeople pages have come up. Methinks I'll change my username - it makes me feel a bit vulnerable to think that anyone could read things that are very personal!!

Good morning Chila,
In case you did not notice - there were alot of other women on this board. We went private and for whatever reason I can not get on the private thread.I have SP working on it - so in the mean time I have been coming here in case any of the ladies want to chat.
Also - we are all women who have NEVER had children due to choice or otherwise...
I saw that recipe at Zatarain.com and since I love cajun thought I would post it here so I could find it again. I'll bet it is low in calories and fat.
What are you doing to lose weight? How much are you hoping to lose?
Myself - I want to lose 30 but at this point 1 pound would be lovely.
Good luck on your journey,
Mari

Hullo everyone I spotted 'getting fit over 50' and thought hmmm that's me as I head towards 60 (in 3yrs). Just want to say hi, I am a reasonably newbie on the site. It is just fantastic to be here and will never leave!! I'm from Wellington, New Zealand.

| Don't give up. We'll leave the light on for ya. Someone was going to drop breadcrumbs. What happened to the breadcrumbs???? Somebody must've gotten very hungry.

This whole thing has been crazy Jen.
I did get that at the beginning and when I clicked on the address it said I was not invited..
So I am going to contact SparkTeam this evening. For some reason even at work I can not e-mail SparkTeam. I may have a block on my computer. Of course I don;t know enough about computers to figure it out. Hope SP can guide me

Hey, Mari
I don't know what's going on. Robin wrote that she's tried to email you about a dozen times. Everybody wants to get you lined up. There was talk of a spam blocker or something that might be keeping the message from getting through to your email. Know anything about that? If you could get the email, it's a cinch from there.

Hello!!
Little rock was NOT FUN!! That store was in such a mess and so unorganized that at least 4 hours were wasted. Got home around 5:30 Sat. night. Now this week I will work late Tuesday and Thurs. and then Friday we start our inventory. Sure hope it goes smoothly..
My SIL came over after I got home Sat. and she highlighted my hair. Hotel bathroom lights were not very kind to my "roots"!! After that we danced for about 30 minutes to some old disco music they were playing on cable. We watched the Zumba tapes - well the beginner one and another one. Its okay but not what I was hoping it would be. Thats why she and I just started doing our own thing. That was alot of fun.
Robin - if you sent me anything to my e-mail address it may come back because I have not cleaned it out in 4 days and I know it is full .. So tonight when I get home I will make sure I got it (or not) and let you know.
J - that is really scary about the googling. Is that just on here?? I may need to change my sparkpage and make it less informant.
Well I need to get back to work. My computer was down until about an hour ago. Lots to catch up on..
OH! I'm up for a challenge, anything to get me losing some weight. I have ran out of excuses. And the holidays is not going to help me at all.

J, good for you for getting started already! No need to wait for the perfect day, the first day of the year, month, week, or anything else. Not that that is bad, but if you’re ready at 2:15 p.m. on a Tuesday in the middle of the month, then I say, “GO!”
BTW, have you ever tried quinoa? We use it sometimes instead of brown rice – cooks quicker. Very healthy. We get it at the health food store.
And J, I agree with Pam, share what you are comfortable sharing. I think you are pretty funny at times and each one of you ladies has, at some point, said something with such clarity – something that I also felt but had been unable to put into words (crap, I’m tearing up), that sometimes it is like coming home to come to read these posts.
I’m new to the planning a menu, prepping, and cooking thing but I do it most of the time now. Without a car it has become just the only smart way to do things. Last night I made a rough menu for the next two weeks and today I hauled my cart to Kroger. I did do some of the aisles though (tea, cereal, mustard, beans, cocoa, V8, fat-free soups, etc) but mostly it was fresh foods, dairy, and a few frozen items. Tomorrow I will make and freeze some muffins, a casserole, chicken for salads and wraps, and I’m making a new rice pudding recipe (Joy of Cooking). We have a tiny fridge and freezer so I can’t do a lot ahead but what I get done helps a lot!
Robin, that’s the pasta we use too! Though sometimes we do use whole wheat.
See you on the private thread.

Hello!
Pam, I like your spirit and resolve. You said, “Only thing really bugging me in my life is my job so I hope that Monday will help me to get the word out about my business and get me on my way. If not I'll try something else. I will not give up.” I admire you for following your dream. I really hope it works for you but if it doesn’t, I really hope you keep trying something else. That’s what we all have to remember. If we don’t keep trying new things, we stay where we are, in jobs, and lives that aren’t fulfilling and don’t reflect who we really are. I am sending “success vibes” all the way to you in IL.
BTW, how did the weather turn out for you? My family is in Quincy and they got 5” of ice and sleet and then about 15” of snow. They are not too happy!
J, I didn’t know the googling thing so am going to try it. I know they do caution you about giving a lot of personal info. I have been reticent too because I’m a bit embarrassed, ashamed, I don’t know. It is one thing to tell a bunch of people you don’t know and will probably never meet some of your deep, dark secrets but you might not want your next-door neighbor to know. There are thousands of folks on sparkpeople (I guess) and they are from other countries besides the USA so what is the chance that that girl you hated your junior year will find out you gained 100 pounds and are addicted to nutter butter cookies? What’s the likelihood that you’ll run into someone you know? Probably a very slim chance and yet that is what has occurred to me a few times too.
I am on two teams and I go to the Sparkteams page and click on the team name. I just went and then searched for each on the find a team page. I can find the “12 Week Challenge” and go there and read the posts. However, I am also on the “Spark Fit Club Donald’s Daisy Ducks.” This is listed as a private team on “my sparkteams” page and I can’t find it when I do a search. So I think they can really be taken private. Surely the people who run this can tell us.
Yikes!!! I just googled “sparkp” and found me. I clicked on the link and it went to my sparkpage. I’m glad that I didn’t use my name as my username but then who would be googling my name. There is so much stuff out there on all of us. I guess as long as we don’t give out our SS#, addresses, or credit card numbers, we should be ok. LOL But will somebody google “sparkp” for me and see if they get my sparkpage and then tell me if they can get into my Spark Fit Club team page. I could but then realized I was signed on to Spark so I logged out and it will take me to my sparkpage but when I click on the team picture (daisies) to go to the team page, it tells me I don’t have access and must log in. Now, I happen to know my sister’s spark username and password so I tried that and I can get to my spark page but, again, when I click on the icon for the team page, I get the “you do not have access” message. So this team really IS private! We need to do that.
So, yes, if the posts you put out there aren't on a private team, someone could google your username, click on the link and end up at your spark page. From there, if they wanted to and could figure it out, they could go to any of your posts that aren't private. So it isn't quite like that person told you J but I'm glad you told us - I had no idea and now I KNOW I'd like this to go private!
I don't know what this is SUPPOSED to be but I'm calling it "incognito." Cathi
