Hi to Barbara, Bonnie Bee, Missouri Nurse and all: We all have the same problem. I am a lifetime dieter, now well into my 70's and will share with you what works for me. It works slowly. I lose about 2 pounds a month, so if you are in a hurry you will want to try another way. First, I exercise every morning, which gets my metabolism going. Second, I eat only what I really like, but in small amounts. I figure I will not want to be eating diet food after I get to my correct weight, so why eat it now? I have a small 120 calorie serving of ice cream most every day. This may not work for all, but you needn't watch someone else eat a food you really crave. Just don't "pig out", instead watch someone else do it and feel virtuous! Blessings on all, health, energy, life! It's wonderful!

I also have a significant other who eats junk and ice cream all the time. I am trying to stay strong, because I can't seem to quit if I have one little bite of the "wrong" stuff. It is a constant battle. I do well with getting water and even exercise now, but my lifelong "bad" eating habits are sooooo hard to control, especially when I like sweet and salty (preferably together!!!!!).
Bless you all on your journey,
BonnieBee

Barbara - my heart goes out to you. I can imagine how difficult it must seem at times when you've got a hubby who isn't doing this lifestyle change with you.

Yes - you're doing it for YOU - don't lose sight of that one, & any time you feel tempted to sabotage yourself by eating something you shouldn't - do come back to the SP site to get your determination back, or do something else nice for yourelf instead of eating.

Stay strong, & stay committed to your goals!!!!

I'm living alone, which has its drawbacks
but at least I don't have to prepare food for anyone else & don't have to have junk food in my kitchen - so am not tempted that way.

...Perhaps you could 'forget' to buy the bad stuff your husband eats, & experiment with some of the healthy recipes on this site. ??? (Just a thought.)

Doesn't seem fair, huh! Tonight a rerun. He had the chicken fried steak, I had the teriyaki chicken. I hope as I get my carb addiction under control and my portions under control on occassion I will be able to have the . I've got a ways to go. But I must do this for me and my health. Today I must admit the pear I had with my lunch meal was delicious, and now to the frig for a nectatrine. My husband is probably eating his usual bowl of ice cream before bed. I can't watch!!! Best wishes to you and yours, Barbara

the hardest thing I've had to do since being on this site (since Feb. 06) is fix meals for my husband...and sometimes something entirely different for myself...then listen to him say "why are you eating THAT?" this is the one thing in life I'm doing for ME. and so...he has the fried chicken and I (like you) have the grilled breast on a spinach salad; he has pork chops and I have tuna and cottage cheese; he eats a bag of chips or half a chocolate cake and I have a piece of cheese or an apple.

I woke this morning with a brighter outlook. It is amazing how something said so simple can bring such insight into a person's life. I'm very thankful for this website. Well on to plan the day -- exercise and meal plans. Have a great day -- stay healthy and best wishes to you and yours.

Hi Barbara, I so agree with you. I like to browse these messages, and one really struck a chord. This lovely young person was in her 20's, a wife and mother, and after a promise to do what was needeed to lose weight (she was over 200), she said her greatest wish was to be a thin mommy and a thin wife. As I read this I thought she must do this for herself. not her husband, not her child. It is only when I made this discovery for myself that I decided to make some changes in my own life. I wish you a good journey to a new you, and with your gift for insight I think you will be there soon.

As my husband and I are discussing the day and what's for dinner (which is leftover chicken and dressing) I begin telling him how it is important for him to eat healthy during the day because he works outside and the heat has been tough. (He is 6 ft 1 in and 187 lbs). He looks at me and says somewhat sarcastic " You really need to worry about your weight not mine". It thru me back, I had an Um Hm moment an epiphany. How simple. Love myself, take care of me, and trust him to do the same. Soooo, tonight it's salad and grilled chicken for me and a juicy nectarine. I hope this makes since to all. I realize by taking care of myself I will be pleasing to him and also leading him to a healthier lifestyle. Thanks for listening, Barbara
