PMA1000, Clothes that fit....it's hard isn't it? Well, I don't know where you live or what you have available but I have noticed around here (OH) that a lot of the stores are finally getting with the program and having more larger sizes. I am retired and don't have many professional clothes anymore but maybe someone else will be able to help you more. I am always looking for style....so many of the plus size clothes have no style! That's one reason why my main goal is to get out of plus sizes!
Rosie, how's it going?

Hi Nancy,
Clothes? Well clothes that fit and are comfortable. I am fighting it every "inch" I mainly need professional clothing for work.. Thanks for answering.

Hi, PMA1000!
Welcome to the forum. We just write to each other about our weight, progress and life in general. So, we are glad to have you.
I am still in plus sizes but I think that you can find size 16 at most places. What kind of clothes are you looking for? nancy

|
| Hi, I am new to this and really don't understand the forums? Today I went shopping and found NOTHING, all my clothes are too small, 1X too big, size 16 a little big but will work do you think I could find size 16 anywhere? Anyway thought I would throw something at ya, does anyone know where to shop?

Sorry it's been awhile since I wrote. I had my 86 year old dad in the hospital for 2 days....fractured vertebrae. Then my daughter was home for a couple of days. I have been tired and not too motivated to get on the computer. My eating hasn't been perfect because of being away from home so much but I have been trying to keep those portions small. Sunday's weigh in showed no more pounds lost but I measured at the beginning of the month and had lost 5 1/2 inches. That was encouraging!
How are things going for you?

That is wonderful that you are down 3 lbs. Aren't scales funny and yes salt and retaining your water has alot to do with it.

Hey Rosie!
I weighed again this a.m. just to see what happened and I was down 3 pounds. someone suggested that perhaps restaurant food has more salt than what I cook at home and I had retained water from the extra salt. could be.
Glad to hear that you are tracking your food and staying near your goal. That's good! As you say....it will come!! Thanks again~

Darn I was in hopes the extra eating would help. I guess I don't have any answers for you. I weigh in on Tuesday evening after work. I actually go to Weight Watchers. I don't know if that is allowed on here but I do. I try to stay on their plan. If I didn't go I am afraid I wold gain gain gain. I was in hopes I could start this and get off but I am afraid too. So I will let you know tomm. How I did. I try to drink a glass of milk (1 percent) is what I have been using. I have missed twice this week. I try to drink it in the morrning. I suppose I get a cup. Drink it fast and that is it. 1 percent is not as bad as whole milk. You might give it a try. I did really good tracking a writing down everything I ate until Sat. and that was it. I need to write down yesterday. I didn't do to bad. I stayed within my calories by about 100. This new healthy way of eating is hard. It is hard when there is are cookies and good stuff to eat isn't it. Branson will be fun. We were planning on doing the Dixie Stampede Show and dinner but that has changed as my granddaughter is really allergic to nuts and they serve nuts and cook with peanut oil.So we are trying to find something else to go too. We usually do one big thing and then some little things. Will see. Thanks for the encouragement and talk to you soon. I sure hope this week is better. Keep fighting the battle we will win. Rosiekay

Rosie, Here's the story....Friday I weighed 207, down 1 lb. I ate a little more on Friday and Saturday to try to get off the plateau or that my body thinks I'm starving it. We ate out twice on Sat. which was hard but I only ate half of my entree both times and boxed the other half. Got on the scales Sunday morning for my challenge team weigh-in.......209! Gained 2 lbs! It was very disheartening. So, I'm back today to eating less than my minimum to see if it will come off again. Oh me!
Sounds like you had a good time with family over the weekend and that you have a good time planned in Branson. I've never been there.
We spent Sat. at my daughter's apt. visiting her. That's always fun.
Well, I guess I could hold me nose so as not to taste the milk and give it a try. How often do you drink it?
I'm glad you are resigned to not beating yourself up over Sunday. I know that is the key. I keep thinking that this is a test to see if I'm going to give up because of the gain and I am determined not to! We'll do this together! Nancy

Nancy: I take a multivitiam. They told me I did not need to take calcium. I had a bone scan and I was afraid that would show I would need to but everything was fine. I to do not like milk but I read somewhere that if you are not a milk drinker to spark a weight loss if you drink you might loose. So that is what I do, and so far it has worked. I also try to cook with milk also. Sometimes it is real hard though. I had a bad Sunday but not beating myself up over it. I am drinking water, and staying on it today. I will go to Curves to work out at lunch time so that will help. I weigh in tomm. Hopefully the scales go the right way. I had a good Sat. I went to my granddaughters first tumbling meet. She got third. She was so happy. Went to Joans and bought some stuff then off to see my other daughter at work. She works retail so she had some clothes picked out for me to try on. I was able to get in a size smaller (14) levies. Made me feel good. Ialso bought a jacket that I didn't think would fit but it did. So I must be doing something right. I am looking forward to the weekend. We are going to Branson, MO. So that should be fun. My daughter and her family goes and our other daughter. We always do one big thing. I think we are doing the Dixie Stampede this time. We are looking forward to that. I will have to stay focused and try and stay on program. I know it will be hard but I am gong to try. Plus all of our walking will be good too. Plan on being back on Thurs. We are kinda taking a little mini vacation. Don't know what we will end up doing. Have a good day and good luck. I am sure you will do good this week. Rosiekay.

Rosie,
Do you take calcium pills? I hate milk! The thoughts of drinking a glass of it are too much! But, I do take 1200 mg of calcium a day. Wonder if that helps any? Plus I have missed one of my pills prett consistently lately so I am only getting 600. Maybe if I try harder to get that second one ine it will help.
I've thought about the calories being too low. It just seems weird to have to eat more to lose weight but I know that's what they say. I asked my husband how you are supposed to increase your calories when you are supposed to be eating fruits and vegetables. They don't have that many calories in them!
Well, yesterday I did eat more and then of course I fretted all evening that I was going to gain because of it. We'll see.
That tomato idea sounds good. I've never tried doing that.
We had a very busy day yesterday. We took my mother-in-law (84) on a drive to see all the houses she and Dad had lived in since they were married. That was her b.d. present along with lunch out. Today we are going to my daughter's house for the day. so, my eating will be out of the norm. Hopefully I have incorporated enough new habits to be able to stay within my range.
Hope that you have a great day! nancy

I made my daughter another skirt to wear to work. She wears a pump as she has diabetis so I try to make her some skirts because it is alot handier than dresses and she has to dress up no pants for her and then I was trying to put in a zipper, I got frustrated so I am going to take it the cleaners and have it done. It is an invisible one and I do not have the right zipper foot for that. I have plenty so sew. I am always making clothes for my grandchildren. My sister and I kinda have a clothing-craft business. Right now we are kinda discouraged. Nothing has been selling. So thinking we might have to stop. Just sew for my family. I have been making purses out of placemats this summer and spring. They have turned out cute. Anything to keep me busy and out of the refrigerator. Tomatoes I ended up cutting them, throwing them in bags and freezing them. They will be good for chili, speg, and to cook with this winter. Easier than canning. I am with you about plateaus. I get those too. I have found that if I drink a glass of either one percent or two percent milk a day I loose better. I am not a milk drinker so I am thinking I am low on calcium and that helps me loose. Everytime I do I loose. You might try that. Also sometimes you might just be not eating enough calories and your body is fighting you. I have found that sometimes too. Add maybe another 100 or 200 calories a day and see what happens. I know it is frustrating and not fun when you don't loose. Hope this is not long for you. I have been filing at work today and I needed a break. Later. Keep working, keep tracking and we will get there. Rosiekay

Rosie,
What are you sewing? and what are you doing with tomatoes? It sounds like between those two things you have plenty to keep you busy!
Well, I am reading a lot about plateaus and what to do about them because I don't feel like I am losing. I may have to adjust some things for awhile to get going. Since I have been going to Curves for a year ( and I wasn't watching what I eat) I have really toned up and developed a lot of muscle. I don't think that is helping me lose either! I'm keeping at it though. We will succeed!

| I did good yesterday and will do good today I have told myself. You just have to adjust your mind and go with it. Forget that choc. in the refrigerator or int he candy drawer. Reach for an apple or something is in my head. Easeir said than done isn't. Will have to keep busy this afternoon as it is my afternoon off. Going to be doing something with some Tomatoes I have and then hope to sew. Thanks for the advise. Results next week we are going tolike. That is what I am keeping my eye on.

"I will do this" yes! We must keep thinking this way. That in itself will be progress for me. I just need to remember that progress is not only measured by numbers. A lot of my weight problem is in my head!
Hope that your day was great and that tomorrow will be even better, friend! Nancy

| I finally figured out how to add you as my friend and I did. Thanks for the info on how to do it. I figured out the pic. but have to do that from home and I was way to tired last nigth. So maybe tonight. I gained a .8 so I guess I need to stay positive and get my attitude adjusted. I am doing that today. Drank my milk, working on water, and tracking my food. I will do this. Hope you are having a good day. Hot here in Iowa today. But got the air fixed here at work so I will survive. Rosiekay

| I am off to Curves today at lunch time. Time to get back to it. I didn't make it last week. Could not get myself motivated. I was to worn out from the Nationals Sprint Car Races we have here in town. Everynight since WEd. until Sat. until 11:00 that was way to much and especailly since I work also. I think you have all did a good job this weekend and stay on top of it. Doing good. Rosiekay,.

| I'm glad to see you guys are doing so well. I've not dropped an ounce, but I refuse to give up! On Friday, I went to Curves for the first time - you're right - I really enjoyed myself and I'm actually looking forward to returning tomorrow. I'm hoping that the physical activity along with trying to watch the calories will result in some weight loss soon...

| That's a good attitude Rosiekay! I lost 1 lb. last week. Of course I wish it was more but I thought that it might have been none lost so I was happy. I have had a good weekend. I really feel like that maybe my brain is starting to grasp the concept of "small portions" without feeling like I am dieting. Hope that you all have a great Sunday! Look forward to hearing from you! Okay I have not it got it posted on the little measure thing at the bottom but I only gained .2 so I did not think that was to bad since it was a busy week last week for me. So I am back on counting points so I will be back to normal next week . Looks like everybody else is off to a good start this week. Keep up the good work. \

| In the past I know that sometimes after an increase, the next time was a bigger loss. Let's help each other remember it is not about the numbers on the scale....they will change. It's about changing our eating and having what I call a normal relationship with food. It is going to be a struggle but I think that we are up for it! Let's go!
|
|
|

I think the bad thoughts come from a long history of what women (and girls) "should" look or be like from stereotypes from movies, magazines, etc. For some reason, we feel that if we don't measure up, there's something wrong with us - why don't men seem to have this same problem???
I know your weigh in will go well - right now, I'm struggling with the fact that I've gone up by 2 pounds instead of down at all. I'm hoping starting Curves on Friday will give me back some motivation.

| Where do these bad thoughts come from anyway? We are going to stay positive! My day has been better and I am trying to get over the fear that the next time I weigh it will still be the same. I don't look forward to it because I know that if I haven't lost I will need encouragment. Thanks for being there! nancy

Good luck Rosie - I'm rooting for you!
Yes, I agree that it's harder to believe your heart than it is to believe your head. I've been telling myself that I just have to be practical and realize that the weight didn't pile on overnight and it won't come off overnight and that having a bad day or even a bad week is perfectly normal and that I need to stay strong for the long haul. But then, if I don't lose what I think I should or if I eat more calories or the wrong foods, I just can't help thinking the old "fat, ugly, failure" thing.
Keep strong!

| I love Curves it is just setting a time and making yourself go that is the trouble. WE all are so busy that sometimes exercise gets pushed back and that is one of the first things we should do. WE all know it but it is easy to forget. I weigh in tonight about 5:30 so I am hopefull. A stay the same would be good. or a .2 would be good. Rosie

| Great! I thought you might like Curves. Yes, it's much easier when you are in a routine. Those surprises or out of routine times are such fun but they do play havoc with your eating and then with me... with my mind. I struggle so with not really beating myself up if I am not perfect in what I am striving. Of course nothing in life is perfect. That's knowledge I have in my head but sometimes it doesn't translate to my heart. Anyone else feel this way?
|
|
|
|
I think you'll find that all the walking you did will help to counteract any eating problems you may have had. I know how hard it is to stay on the straight and narrow when you're off your routine or are around others who are eating. This weekend, my friend came into the shop and surprised me by bringing in lunch. She brought in Chinese food, and I really overdid it - then, we were having friends over for dinner, so although I made a reasonable meal, I shouldn't have added any calories at all, but of course, I did.
I found a Curves near to my house and went in to talk to them. I'm going back Friday morning to see the routine, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to sign up for it - it seems like a good deal, and I'm happy to see that it's fairly casual and that everyone there isn't already tiny and a teenager...
