Hi,
I've been off track through Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm a teacher so I was on vacation during the holidays. I didn't diet or exercise and gained 3 pounds. Yesterday I started back to Curves and I hope I can continue to stay on track. It seems like it takes a lot of time to do all the recording of what I eat, the journal writing and posting online. If I'm at home I don't do it. I find myself recording all the information when I'm at work.

Good for you. You are doing well. This plan really helps and I am a big believer in Curves as well as Sparkpeople.

Hi,
I also joined Curves 3 months ago with my 84 year old mother-in-law. She lives with me and my husband and I have to do a lot of the care for her. I figured the only way I would be able to get away to exercise would be to take her with me. She has Parkinson's and I have also noticed after exercising she seems to have more strength in her legs. The last 2 months I've gained weight due to overeating at Thanksgiving and the holiday food at work. I've said I think I'm the only person I know that can join an exercise program and gain weight and no it's not muscle, but already in 3 days of signing on with Sparkpeople I've managed to lose 2 lbs. Yeh!

I joined curves a month ago with my 87 year old mother. I needed to lose weight and she needed to work on her balance and leg strength. You should see her GO! It helped me develop the habit of going because Mom was counting on me for a ride. Now neither one of us would miss a scheduled night. We go 3 x per week. Her balance is already improving - she walks with far more assurance that her legs really will hold her up. And I'm losing inches. Yeah! Glad to know there are others here enjoying the Curves experience.

Walk away the pounds with Leslie Sansone. There are several and they are good. No hard moves, just walking with maybe some kick backs or some other small variations.

OK, I've got to know! What are WATP video tapes?
I'm going to Curves three times a week and doing
the exercise ball and the gazalle between visits.
Adding more exercise would be a plus.

This morning I got up early and did a 1 mile WATP video before work and went to Curves on my lunchbreak. A couple of weeks ago I only went one time that week, had a couple of sick days in that week. I usually go 3-4 times a week.

Only been making Curves 1X/wk the last few weeks. Started doing the WATP tapes and I'm loving'em! Now just got to get back with Curves and I'll be much more fit!
They'll be closed tomorrow.

Blessings to all.

Good for you! 1 lb. when you've quit smoking isn't bad at all. Overall you've done terrific! Keep up the good work. I'm going to try to follow your example and get ride of these extra pounds I'm stuck with.

Weighed in today. Up a pound, but considering I quit smoking this month, that is fantastic!

Since January I've lost 13.25". 22 pounds, 16.27 pounds of body fat, or 2.5%.

Can't wait for the cool weather, fall is my favorite season. I also tend to exercise a whole lot more.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Well, I'm due for a weigh in today. I know I haven't lost any weight, but I'm hoping the fat percentage has gone down along with the inches. that would make me happy!
Have a great day U2! Congratulations on making exercise a habit!

I feel the same way. The 3 x per week is second nature and I feel great. But, like you, the weight isn't shifting. I'm staying about the same. That's so frustrating. But I've had lots of compliments on how I look, so things are firmed up anyway, even if they're not as small as I'd like them to be. Guess I have to look more closely at my eating habits.

My body thanks me daily for joining Curves. I feel
great and have lots of energy.

The three times a week routine is almost second nature now. The inches are disappearing and some muscle is showing up. Can't complain about that! Just
wish the old scale would head downward. In three
months of faithful attendance at Curves, I've
only dropped 1.5 pounds.

I love it. As you said, in 30 minutes you don't get bored. I, too, look forward to my workouts. Going to workout is a requirement to me. Just like I have to go to work, I have to go to Curves. I think joining Curves is one of the best things I've done for my health.

Hey Carol and Toni,
I'm looking forward to my work out tomorrow at Curves. I'm really getting some definition in my thighs-I'm hoping that is fat loss!
I can't believe I actually look forward to work outs! In 30 minutes I don't get bored, and I don't have to worry about competing with anyone else unless I want to.
Hope you like it Carol!

Carol,

I'm glad you've got us all posting again. It's been a while. I'm still going to Curves and loving it. I'm not doing good at the moment in the weight loss department, but everything is staying toned at least. It's great because it's so flexible. You can go at your convenience and not have to be there at a set time and the encouragement from other participants is wonderful. Our coach told us that she's seen some members who've stopped coming and they've put on weight. If I'm not losing at the momet, I am at least staying level. I've learned to discipline myself about exercise, now to accomplish that with food!

Thanks for the reply and encouragement. I just started a new job and the hours are flexible so curves may be just the thing I need. Amen to "you get out what you put in." I need to remember that!
Thanks again!

It has been a long time Carol!
I'm still going to Curves and I do enjoy it. A friend of mine just started that was also afraid of the commitment, but it works so well with our schedules, it has not been a problem.
Like any other exercise, you get as much out of it, as you put in to it. But at the minimum, you will be moving all your body parts for a half hour. :)
Let me know if you have any specific questions. Good luck!

I, too, am having a hard time with the "food thing" and I'm doing what you are -- just trying to keep track of what I eat. I'm not losing, but I'm not gaining and the inches are staying off. If we lose it slowly it stays lost so I'm determined to keep up the exercise routine because it's made all the difference.

Have a great day, all.

Hi gals!
I've been a member at Curves for 17 months. I did do the challenge last year and lost 13 pounds in 6 weeks and about 13"(?) I can't remember.
I recommitted to doing the exercise this year after falling way off. I've had 19 weeks straight now of 3X/week.
I'm having a really hard time with the food part now. I don't use the Curves diet, just count calories and try to stay in range at this site.
I'm beginning to think I'll have to do some kind of challenge to get back on track.
Have a great weekend!

Hope you do see some improvement this weekend. I didn't do so well last month -- basically stayed the same. I weigh and measure again in two weeks so I'd better get back on track because I don't think I'm doing so well at the moment. At least I am continuing to exercise three days a week, but I've got to get the eating under control.

Anyone else out there dealing with frustration through food? I know it's not the way to deal with it, but I can't seem to get myself under control, but I'm working on it. Thanks for the support, ladies.

Toni,

No, I didn't ask. I just took my measurements at home along with the weight. If I decide to submit to being weighed and measured at Curves, will possibly consider asking about keeping the info private.

Will be time for measurements this week-end. Hope
I see some improvement. My clothes are getting
looser so that's something.

One day at the time. One pound at the time.
Slow and steady towards my goal.

Ladies,

I like Curves because there is no "meeting" and if it's a non-people day you don't have to have conversation -- you can just do your exercises and leave.

I think the weigh and measure part of Curves is very important, but, Lizzy, yours must be different. At ours you can share a good weigh & measure if you want (by the coach telling everyone who is present), but if you don't nothing is said. Absolutely nothing is posted anywhere. I wouldn't like that either. Have you asked if you can weigh and measure without having anything posted or said?

As far as any kind of meeting, I like our Spark gang. We can "meet" at our convenience and we talk about what is relevant to us. And we have the support we need, too.

Have a great week everyone.

I believe that Tops is a great program, but I have been in and out of it since I was 25 years old or so.

I just get into moods where I can't deal with people even thought I am a people person.

Our weight in is mostly privet, we don't have to say how much we lost or gained. I should go to the meetings now that the weather is going to be nicer and the days are longer. Don't have to come home in the dark now.
Should be able to accomplish alot between now and December 31. Want to look good, for my visit to my son home and daugher in CA. Going to be house seting. At My son place.

Aunt Bee,

Have heard of TOPS. Do you like the program?
Do they have a public weigh-in like Weight
Watchers? I could never join Weight Watchers
because I couldn't stand being humiliated
and embarrassed when the scale went up!
Couldn't tolerate the added stress!

I hear you! I don't like public meetings either.
The reason I enjoy Curves is that I can go and
do the exercises and come home. Didn't do the
weigh-in and measurement part of the program
because I'm uncomfortable making those things
public. Many of the gals have their measurements
and pounds lost posted on a huge board. I am too
private a person. Much prefer "talking" to the
group here on the Spark. I get my motivation from
all of you.

I enjoy being around people, too, but not in
an environment that is weight related. Love
Bingo, card games, craft clubs, etc. and
benefit from that type of interaction.

Just renewed my Spark membership which helps
keep me committed to my goals.

Can't afford the monthly fee's. My kids would pay for it but I will not ask them to do that.

I guess one make money to do what is important to them. Like Top's I rejoined but have been back since I joined Tops In March I believe.

I love people, but have a hard time, being around real people.. You guys are real people, but I don't have to be comitted to going to a meeting. May be that is not good on my part. I love having company.
Love going places.
Oh well.

I love Curves! My only regret is that I waited so
long to join up. First thought about it two years
ago. Think how far ahead I'd be now if I had joined
up then!

Curves also has a first time visit discount program.
I joined up then and got 50% off the membership fee.
The monthly fee works out to about $2 a visit and
it's worth it to me for my health.

Aunt Bee, you might stop in and see if the program
is something you would be interested in. If so,
perhaps you could put a little aside each month
towards membership as a reward to yourself for
staying on track. Just a thought!

Aunt Bee,

Keep an eye out -- every once in a while Curves waives the membership fee, which is steep, but the regular monthly fee is not bad and well worth scrimping if necessary to pay. I joined in March when the fee was waived if you donated food for the needy.
