Good morning all. Hopefully the scale will budge this week - I road the bike for 20 minutes last night, worked out lower body with weights and just finished Denise Austin this morning. All this exercising is making me drink water - 11 glasses yesterday. I'm feeling better, too.
Keep moving -

Hello ladies,
I bought a new dish rack, have to try it out ha.
Red in color, to match my other, this and that's through out my kitchen and family room. My kitchen chairs are red also.

I plan to work in the house to day, will be having company on the 06 and on the 11th. That is why I wanted the yard done. Before it got to high to do.

I got out trying to cut it with a knife, last year cut my self and I fell down. Couldn't get up by my self. As I said in a earlier post..
I have my walker now. Try to keep it close as I can while doing work. Hard to do while mowing. But I am able to hang on to the handles, which is a good thing. Aunt Bee

Losing weight and staying healthy is a result of many things. Attitude, diet, exercise, motivation, friends. Put them all together and you will be successful.

Good morning, Aunt Bee,
Yesterday was my day of awakening. I drank even more water (I live in Florida and it is HOT here) and exercised over an hour last night. I have come to the conclusion that diet is not enough. Maybe that scale will start to budge!

Don't give up! That is the best advice! Use that measuring tape along with the scale.

Make sure you are not burning to many calories with exercise.. That will keep you from losing.

Are you clothes getting looser?

I'm new to this board, in fact I posted my very first message ever today. But since I'm over 50 (I'm 54) and not fit, I thought this one might be for me. My scales not bulging either and I've just decided I need to add more exercise. I'm only eating about 1400 calories and can't reduce that!

Have been tracking my food, have to start making better choices. Getting more exercise and drinking that water, have been drinking the 8 glasses of water, but with the hot weather, probly need to drink more water with the weight I am carrying around.
Aunt Bee Been drinking soda pop again, have to stop that.

I would agree with measuring yourself. If you have been lifting you may be losing fat and gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat thus the lack of weight loss but still the loss of inches. You might want to consider a scale that measures body fat percentage also. If your body fat is decreasing even though your weight is staying the same you are still on track on losing weight.

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!
I am afraid that the scale will be rising to a higher number due to over active fork.

DW,

Exercise is a very important piece of the weight loss puzzle. But you were right to take a break if you've not been feeling good. How long have you been back into your routine since being sick? Sometimes it can just take a few weeks (even up to a month) to get your body going again and to start seeing results again. Do you ever measure yourself? Sometimes you lose inches but not weight, so I would suggest measuring once a month.

Let me know if that helps. Keep us posted on your progress!

Due to illness and recent travel schedule, I have been lax on my exercise regime for the past three weeks. I do belong to a gym and normally attend a Body Pump class at least twice a week, followed by 30 min with treadmill and 15 min cycle routines. I try to add at least one extra day of treadmill/cycle workouts. I am not a sedentary person, but admittedly I do not avail myself of the exercise routine I maintained in my late 40's.

DW,

Are you exercising? If so, can you tell me a little bit about what you are doing?

Any detail you can provide would be great, and I'll do my best to help you figure out what's going on!

Hello all. I have been involved with Spark People for over eight weeks now...and will add, I am very conscientious about recording everything I consume, maintaining my 1200 to 1500 cals/per day avg. My frustration is that I "lost" four lbs in the first two weeks and have not budged an ounce since. I am 53 years old and realize my metabolism has slowed down since hitting another level of menopause. However, the effort is not gaining the reward and my patience is thinning. My goal was to lose 20 lbs (what I have gained since menopause) by May. I am obviously way off my goal. Anyone out there understand and can offer advise?

Hey, hey, hey that walking is looking good on you!
I think your going to have to scold walking though, for being so lax in the food department!

I have been walking the last four days, has been hard but I am sure that I am growing stronger little by little, going to Tops tomorrow night Monday.

The only thing I can say for my self is the walking didn't watch the food entake very well.

Don't know if I will be going to Top's or not to night. I want to go. See how I feel later.

Aloha and thanks for such great advice!!! I have had a really busy week at work, plus quite a few evening committments that have kept me too busy and too tired to even think of exercise. And to be truthful, exercise is my downfall!! I know I MUST do it, but when the end of my work day rolls around, I am most days, just exhausted and I go home and there I stay!!! So, I am making a public promose to exercise at least 3 days this week, and to do that for 2 weeks, then up the days to 4, for another 2 weeks. My scales don't budge no matter how good I am in the eating department.......to if I really want to lose these lbs, and tone up, I must take some action!!

Have a great day everyone. I have lots of catching up to do around the house, and grandson coming over for a sleepover, and laundry, and wash the car, and that all sounds like exercise to me, doesn't it to you too???? Aloha, June

Nancy: I needed to hear your kind words today. I was feeling very discouraged but veyr recently I have changed my work outs to some weight training and that's what has probably been my weight gain.

Overall, exercise and eating healthy should be our first priority--but I still want to look great for my son's wedding in July 2006!

Oh, one more thing! What really made the difference for me was strength training with the results of gaining muscle. Even though the scale has not budged, the strength training has helped me lose body fat and to fit into my clothes better. As we age, we lose muscle. So, it is important to actively work at building more muscle.

If you haven't tried that, Linda, you might add that to your routine and see if you notice a difference. I think I started noticing changes after about 6 weeks.

Linda, I know what you mean and have felt that way also. Camille, you have given some very good advice. I agree, don't give up because the changes you are making are healthy -- with benefits that go beyond the scale.

I, too, have been discouraged when I use the scale as my focus. Instead, focus more on how you feel and on the health benefits. I agree that it is harder to lose pounds as we grow older and it seems unfair that we need to exercise more and eat less. But, I can second Camille that all the hard work has significantly reduced my cholesterol levels.

Hang in there! Even small changes are beneficial. Yes, it is a lot of work but worthwhile in the end. Good-luck!

Myrna: Thank you for your faith in me! I will not give up.

Linda: Don't give up--keep trying. As of late I've gotten discouraged a little bit, but when I went to the doctor's for my annual check up--because of watching what I eat and exercising all my blood tests came out great! So you may think it's a losing battle but it's not you are gaining good health! Keep up with the Spark People program--you may need to exercise more than 30 minutes and you may need to eat less calories. Good luck and give it more time! Camille

Responding to scale not budging. And being over 50. I know how discouraging it is. And unfortunately, I would like it to be easy. When can one actually start enjoying what they want to eat and not having to worry about gaining weight. I'm not even talking about over-eating. It just seems impossible to lose weight these days. And I've tried. Calorie counting, exercising at least 30 minutes a day of varying sorts - cycling, using the exercise ball, aerobics, walking, etc. The scale, the inches, do not budge. For an entire month, I did this. Nothing. Even if I had have lost 2 pounds I would have been happy. Yes, it's discouraging. I thought that joining Sparkpeople would help. I even journaled everything I ate for a month. It all became work. I want to be able to enjoy losing weight, counting calories, etc. I don't want it to be a chore. What's the answer?

Hi Camille....don't give up and please don't be disgusted with yourself....I have learned to carry healthy mini meals with me so if I get hungry I always have something to eat............I like apples with string cheese, or oranges with a boiled egg.......I always try to eat a carb and a protein as this keeps the blood sugar steady......that is why we get so hungry, the blood sugar goes crazy.....so eating 6 mini meals a day staves off the hunger and then we don't cheat and eat what we shouldn't and we don't get angry with ourselves.......
