Hi Kathy and welcome to Sparkpeople. I wish you well on your quest to answer the emotional eating question. At 61 years it is still my issue. At times I think I have a handle on it and I do well for sometime then back to the solving problems with food. I have actually never solved a problem with food but I sure keep trying!!!! lol. Good luck and I will check this thread to see if you share your success.

This is really great and just what I wanted - no hand writing my food journal or looking up calories, carbs or fats in books!

Kathy, one more thing...
I saw an SP group specifically for Emotional Eaters. Here's the link: http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.asp?imboard=37&imparent=1397195
SP has everything! Isn't that great?! Just like Aunt Bee said, it's "uplifting to see how excited we get about our SP program!"
And, Kathy, look at the responses you've received from several of us already. I think that is fantastic support! In no time at all, you'll be responding and encouraging others as well!
Hope all is well.
Susy P.S. Aunt Bee (I love that name, btw!), thanks for the welcome. I still feel sort of new on here. I'm going to change to Phase 2 on Monday, 5/1. New phase, new week, new month!

Welcome to SP!
I think we all suffer from some emotional eating. Food is so comforting, and such a social activity in our lives. All we can do is strive to make the right choices and control our urges. We can all do it. The SP site is so full of resources. I have a wonderful time just reading articles and posting messages with my Over 50 friends.
Good luck with your goals. Deana

Hi Kathy! Welcome to SP. You will love it here! I do, and I just joined less than two weeks ago.
To respond to your question: You sound like me; someone who wants to figure out the answers and then implement them for change!
So congrats on asking about a book to read. I just went to the SP link listed below and plugged in "emotional eating" and it turned up a LOT of Web sites! (Be sure to put the quotation marks around the two words.)
http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/web_search.asp
Oh, by the way, learn to LOVE amassing points! You even get points for using the above Web site to do your searches! SP gets funding (or something) every time we do our searches from there.
Also, SP has articles on emotional eating. Here are two:
How to Take Action Against Emotional Eating http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness_articles.asp?id=208
Get a Handle on Emotional Eating http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrition_articles.asp?id=55
Be sure to click at the end of the articles on Earn 3 Points!
Kathy, let me know how you do! I am wishing you success--and fun!
Susy

I'm so glad that there is "Getting Fit over 50"at this site! I'm new to this and have found out that I am an emotional eater. I'm a Mother of 3 grown adults and have 4 grandchildren. I at one time weighed 143 and now 190. I must get back to 143. I have lost my energy level and am tired all the time. Someone told me its because I work during the night. I say no. I do know after reading about emotional eating I am that person. I eat cause I'm bored, stressed, sad, and lonely. Are there books out regarding emotional eating? Where and how do I start?
