Promise,
You can make it this time, just look at all the support you have. I just visited your sparkpage and saw the picture of your beautiful daughter, she and all of us want you to succeed.
Bonnie, It is wonderful that you are handling your indulgences so well and getting back on track. I know exactly what you mean when you said you would let a poor choice throw you off track. Done it many times myself.
Blessings to all, have a successful day. Deana

Promise and Dew,
How are you doing?
Have to relate my story for the last two days and maybe the sharing will help.
I had Chinese food for lunch yesterday , but planned a low cal dinner and stayed in my boundaries!! Today the new boss took us ladies and one gent out to lunch for admin asst week. I had a wonderful almost guilt free lunch (high calorie, but only half) and I will do the same thing tonight--- Very low cal and lots o veges!!!!
It is the difference between my life before Spark and after. Before I would have let the "poor" choices affect more than the one meal. Now I can see the path, even tho I stepped into the woods for a while!!!! I know that I can indulge, but then hop back on the path toward my ultimate goal.
I think one of the advantages of the last few weeks is that I can not eat as much at one time as I could before, so stomach shrinkage must be occurring!!!!
Woo Hoo!!!!!!
Blessings to you, and my prayers,
Bonnie

Promise and Dew
Believe me, if you have fallen, if only for a day, you will be stronger because of it. In overcoming our obstacles we learn. Through struggle comes strength. This is all part of a better life. NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER GIVE IN TO DEFEAT. To give up is to abandon any hope - and you all know that with hope, kindness and love, anything is possible. So when you see yourself taking one step back, stop -- and take two steps forward and solve the puzzle of WHY it happened and institute a correction mechanism. The next time you start to slip, you will be able to catch yourself before any harm is done. Finally, ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE, ATTITUDE!!! Make this YOUR journey, with your own personal reasons for success and adopt a strong and consistent ATTITUDE for achiving your goals. To your health!.... Dennis

And remember always, we, your fellow sparkies, are here to provide support, comments, ideas, and hopefully a great deal of help!

no offense taken, thank you...sincerely.

This is indeed a plan and like most paths worth following there are bumps and turns along the way.

On bad habits, I found that when I keep in mind the fact that I could form bad habits does mean I can also form good ones.

I don't really feel bad hence the quotation marks around the word. I already had a plan for the rest of my day and it will keep me in my limits. That is the difference with Spark-- before I would have definitely given up for the rest of the day, but I know that I can take a side trip on this journey that I am on, and then just get back on the path.
didn't mean to offend anyone, but i do have bad habits which is why i am in the shape i am in.

It seems so counter-productive to think of oneself as "bad"

Hi there, hadn't seen our post for a while and my eyes go crossed trying to scroll back through, but I made it.
I was "bad " for lunch but will eat light for dinner and still be in my calorie range and not too bad on the fat count.
The scales were still kind this morning and I've been down 2 lbs since Saturday, hoping it lasts until weigh-in on friday.!!!!!

re: "I wonder can i commit to myself? I have beaten drugs, alcohol, and nicotine...but food?"
It worked for me to write a contract of all I would do to achieve my goals. (The concept was presented by Oprah and Bob Greene.) The idea is that if you make a contract with someone else you would likely honor it and thus you honor this signed contract with yourself. I utilized my propensity for addictions to remind myself that addictions to clarity and good choices could also be made. Mindful eating, how you eat and savor the blessings of highest quality fuel to nurture yourself are steps to changing to a lifestyle that supports the healthest and best balanced you. You can do this!

Hi all,
also copied another post to share here/ we are not alone/**************

welcome every one new. stick with us, all is possible with our great spark friends, and the power of God.
I guess I always thought it was selfish before, but I pray for God to give me strength to get through this journey and get to a healthier me. I"m really good at praying for other people, but fight with that self-worth thing --one of the reasons that i have gotten to this point so many times.
It is hard to explain how different this is, this time. I started because I knew I had to, but the little niggling voice in the back of my head kept telling me I wasn't going to make it, again.
** Lo and behold I go online to find an easy calorie counter so i can journal my food intake and I come across SparkPeople. Wow, talk about the hand of the Lord leading me. This has been the best thing that ever happened to me, short of my children being born!!!
I have met so many wonderful people and all are supportive and sympathetic for my struggles and my joys!!
Thanks everyone, keep on sparking
Blessings,
Bonnie

I read a lot of posts today from friends who went off their diets and felt bad. Just like my page says there are no diets, only lifestyle changes on the journey. You are never bad or good. You are never on or off your diet. You have just had a few bumps on your journey. It's like taking the wrong road to a friends home. You just get right back on the road and ask for help. We can do this together with help from friends ,family ,and Spark.

This is your journey, with no beginning and no end. We are all works in progress, step by step. When you take a wrong turn, for a meal, a day, a week just get back on the journey for the next meal and go on the journey to better health.

Dew and Promise....we will succeed in this journey! I've had a few friends here have some upsetting weight loss times. The above entry is something I wrote in my journal today. I hope it helps. God Bless!

I've found that it's not so much about willpower as it is changing habits. It took a little time, but now I have no problem with social functions, buffets, or eating out because my new habits automatically kick in and without really having to even think about it, I make better choices both in terms of what I eat and how much I eat.

I was really off the wagon today & now I feel so terrible...went to a party for my friends Mom..she was 90 & there was 2 rooms of food & I ate like there was NO tomorrow & then was so mad that I have no willpower....I had to come here & read some of the post to set my mind at ease....why oh why....

I read somewhere else on these boards that a study of people who kept their weight off for 10 years or more revealed that most had tried multiple times in the past to lose weight and failed. That gave me hope. At fifty I have been on multiple diets and have actually lost all the weight I needed, even keeping it off for three years one time. But here I am again.
Like you I have faith in God who can do much more than I ever dreamed or imagined. I also have faith in the process-healthy lifestyle changes rather than dieting.
Keep your focus on God and the process rather than the problem and you WILL succeed.

Good Morning,
I can only repeat what everyone else has said, take baby steps, educate yourself with all the great resources here on this site and stay checked in with us, cause we'll be here for you.
I too eat for every reason humanly possible. I feel like God led me to this site. I was online looking for a calorie counter cause I was going to start and Voila! there was SparkPeople!
I think that this is the first time that success feels possible because I don't feel alone. It has always seemed like such a battle before. Now it feels like a journey, there will be side trips, but get back on the trail and keep going!!!
Blessings to you,
Bonnie

Hi Promise,

I understand how you feel I've been there myself. Eat when I was happy etc...I fed every emotion humanly possible.

We have done this for years and it will take time to change those unhealthy behaviors. The good news is that we can do it and we have the tools to do it with. This site is wonderful I've read many of the articles and there are so many valuable suggestions.

Take one thing at a time and do it for a week so then go for the next change. Get a visual(ie: photo's) sit down and write what things you would like to achieve and set your goals. Maybe it's lose 2 lbs this month. It is very doable and a healthy loss. There is no need to rush because you will be doing it for the rest of your life.

You will meet you weight loss goal by going slowly and makeing the changes necessary-not to many changes
