Dennis, I agree that one gets out of this site what one puts in: either actually on the site, learning and communicating, or in the rest of our lives, living it!

To answer your original question - what works?
I believe the key to a healthy lifestyle is to break a lot of the bad habits that support our unhealthy lifestyle. It is just not exercising and eating right (although those are two very big considerations!) Many of us are in such bad shape that we need to rethink our whole way of how we conduct our lives. The hard part is to develop a complete new mind set. "So you think, so you are." I really belive in the "so you think, so you are" principal - the old "Dress for Success" rules apply - but on a broader scale. There are many axioms that support the principle. Walk with a man who limps and you will limp.... The easiest way to success is to hang around with successful people... You are what you eat.... dreams really do come true, so keep on dream'n ...and so on....
The thing that works for me, to help me think (and act) like someone with a healthy lifestyle, is to adopt everything that I can find that "fits" on this site. I have been here for almost 2 months and started knocking down spark points and following my recommended program. To accumulate spark points you need to visit all the important pages of the site. You need to read, you need to find a community of support - they are all here, but you need to find them on your own. And.... most importantly, you need to read... read all the stuff in the Resourse Section of the site. I started with the motivation Section (most of us fat, old people, like me, need a lot of motivation)It has been 2 months and I am still reading motivation aritcles (3 each day). They are some of the most intelligently written short essays that I have ever read! But I ONLY take what FITS. This is a big ole clothing store of ideas - there is sure to be a lot of great stuff in your size!

I did do some lower body exercised last night. Managed to stay within my calorie range yesterday, but just barely! Today will be a better day! Plan on doing some more walking this afternoon.

I was on a bings for about four months now that I think of it! was saying 2 months!

I am on my thrid day of staying on my program.

Repeat the positive! every meal! exercise! repeat exercise! Drink that water! Be mindfull of what you are doing, to your self when you stuff, more than the body needs in to ones mouth..

Hope to ride the exercise wagon, continue to progress, and feel good about my day once I get ready to go to sleep.

THat is great! I am having a hard time leaving the food alone. I know that if I get my will power back and eat what I am supposed to for one week, thwn I will be back on track again. I have been walking with a co-worker 2 to 3 days a week for about 45 minutes. That is a lot more than I have done for a while. Hard to find the time for exercise.

I was always slim, I watched my weight, but could keep it under control. I retired 3yrs ago, I'm 57 and the pounds came out of no where. Dieting is frustrating because I can't seem to lose weight. I joined Curves and enjoy it but still no real weight loss.

I know exactly how you feel. I am having many of the same problems.

I have lost about 10 lbs since January, but of course I lose patience instead of pounds it seems. I guess that its a good start on getting to my goal..

I am going everyday to the health center and doing cardio and strenght training. I feel a lot better, so I realize that it is an award. Being a healthy old lady is a good thing.

I am not going to give up.

OkiePapa,

I just want to be as healthy as I can be, and be comfortable in my clothes(no tight waistbands). All of the towns around here are making bike/walking trails, and I want to be able to walk a long distance on them. I love to be out in nature, and don't want to be huffing and puffing and sweating.

Are you doing any exercises????

Okiepapa,
I still have some far-fetched dreams I'm holding onto.
One is to do some long-distance backpacking. So, I GOTTA get in shape!
And if I don't do it now, it'll never be any easier! I'm also curious what having muscle instead of fat will feel like!!
