For me the answer is that I want to be healthier so much it overrides my old habits. I'm 62 and feel like getting into the best shape I can is a 'now or never' thing. So my habits have changed and maiking the right choices is much easier.
You just have to want it badly enough!!!

This is my big problem too. If we know we don't like are appearance the way it is. Do not like the way inactivity makes us feel. How can it still be hard to do the right thing for are selves even when presented in this straight forward manner?
To your question what is wrong with me? If we can answer that question truthfully is it at that point we will make head way to a healthier lifestyle? I wonder to?

Hello Jackie and other spark pals!

To day I am starting new..The sun is shinning, going to rain later on to day.
I have been playing on the computer most of the morning, managed to drink a quart of water so far.

Plan to have cream wheat for breakfast.
It is 10 am. I should go fix it. Before it is time for lunch. Ha
I have to get ahold of my, attitude once more, accomplish something in this new year.

Hi Aunt Bee - there is nothing wrong with you either! Mayber you just have to try and find the "thing" which will put your mind into focasing onto yourself in the best way - whether its a motivator like your daughter's wedding, or the grandchild on the way, or a basic health problem like diabetes. I really feel that we all need that goal to work towards - there has to be somethinbg that triggers off the motivation to get there - and you seem to have plenty of things that could be your trigger. Spring is almost upon us and that is always a good time to start anew - its so nice to get outside once the winter is over!
Come on, you can do it and we are all here for you!

Hello there, I have an idea of how you feel. I have been there done that.

See if you can find a buddy to talk with and walk with. Work on eating healthy, portion control. Exercise, enjoy growning healthy. Do it while you are still young.
( By the way I am telling my self this while typing.) I have been on a self destructive, down hill roll for many years.
The doctor want me to come in for a dibetic testing 2 day fast.

I have hi blood presure, Thyroide, been depressed, because of not having a car to get around, I am house bound. I have my walk away the pounds tape which is very good. But I haven't done it two days in a roll yet.
My youngest daughter is getting married late summer or early fall. My other daughter is having a baby. I have lots of things to look forward to, want to be healthy, but I do everything to block my progress.

I know what you are talking about. I to think What is wrong with me!

Absolutely! No matter how mentally healthy we are about our reasons and motivations, etc. I'm not sure there is a person in the world who doesn't walk into a room without some sense of comparison. You just have to work at not letting that get out of hand, or stand in the way I think. But heh, if the next party I go to I feel better about myseld, well okay!

Those are all great motivators - though I have the feeling that that 35 year reunion would be it for me!! I know that we all want to be healthy, but if we are really honest with ourselves - we also want people to say how good we look - don't you think so?

Ahhh, my motivation? I'm thinking of a few:

1. We've adopted our granddaughter, who is almost five. I want to be healthy for her.
2. Disneyland in June . . . I want energy and fitness for a children's vacation.
3. Perhaps a 35-year high school reunion.

I know all about spending money on diets!! I must have spent a fortune on them over the years. I think that part of it is that if you've spent the money (which most of the time, you don't really have to spare) - and these things are always expensive, then you feel that you must keep to the particular diet because otherwise it's just a waste of money.
But, I think it is all down to motivation - finding the trigger that will keep you on track. With me, at the moment it is the fact that both my daughters are getting married this year - & I refuse to be the "fat" mother of the bride!!! SP is definetly helping me along this road - I don't think that I could do it without SP!! There's nothing wrong with you - we're all in the same boat together!
Good luck,
Jackie

I guess you know all about SP--
but it is interesting what keeps us on track. I think SparkGuy is right to emphasise motivation. I feel like I have changed my life and it will be a 'forever' change--but I guess I have to live the rest of it to really know, don't I.
So far so good for me, good luck to you--

I keep spending dollar after dollar on different diets, books, websites, etc. I have been "dieting" since I was 9 years old (my prepubescent fat was deemed a problem by my ignorant parents). I know how to do it, but keep looking for the miracle. I have found that SparkPeople is the BEST site, and I'm a lifetime member. So why do I continue to spend more money to find a cure?

So I'm here for the long haul, and I mean long! I have about 85 pounds to lose. And I need to do it to be HEALTHY, not just attractive. So here I am. AGAIN!
