If you are baking these your self, make sure you use smaller muffin size instead of the giant ones.
Then count the calories, eaten into your food plan.

If it's still bothering you, go ahead and have it. Just adjust your calories somewhere else. If you deprive yourself too much you might end up binging on half a cake instead of a slice. A small slice of angel food cake with fresh strawberries could satisfy that craving and not throw you off track. Gail

Look at it this way. This plan is not a deprivation plan - it is a no temptation plan. You can still think that you can have something (if you choose).. but if it is not around...... fa-git-abatt-it! ..... or substitute.

| Eat an apple and go for a walk. The craving will pass. For the time being rid your home of all temptation! If it's not there you can't eat it.

Dennis I agree. Get rid of the sweets in the home if they are causing problems. When I first started I threw out all baking supplies. So I would not be tempted to bake and binge. If I got a sweet tooth, I would go out to have one sweet treat.
If say at 11 pm you get a craving for a something sweet it is alot easier to fight the craving. Who wants to barge out at 11pm for a sweet?
With No bakery supplies in the house to whip up a batch a Goodies to binge on.
Prepare fresh fruit salad ahead of time. Have a small bowl of fruit salad with a flavoured yogurt to fight the sweet attacks.

Then again, you can not eat something that is not there. Rid your hone of unhealthy items. Stay away from bakeries - one day at a tme. I know, this is really hard. I would go to Panera Bread almost every day before going into the office. Would pass up the sweet pastries for breakfast and get a bagle - with cream cheese. A different bagle every day. AND would pick out a couple of pastries every other day to take home to my wife for her breakfast the next day - but I would get some for me (for a snack) as long as I was buying them for her. This was a hard habit for me to break - esp. the part about buying a treat for my wife. But she agreed that they were not healthy and did not want them around the house. If she gets an attack for a pastry, she goes out and gets one for lunch. I have a very understanding wife.

LADYK
I hear ya! Maybe you could buy small size muffin baking tin. This way you could eat two but really you are only eating one - remember it is portion control if two small ones = 1 regular size one but you are eating two in you subconsious but really only consuming one as far as nutrients.
Tupperware sells a mini muffin bakeware made out of silicone and I am sure a good kitchen store would carry small or mini muffin bakeware.
Same thing when one serves a meal on a small dinner plate, it looks like alot but if you put the same amount on a large size plate it wouldn't look like enough!
Or as Dennis suggested eat 1/2 of a large one.

Lady So.... if not just one.... eat a half! Nuff said.

My BIG problem is I can't just eat 1.....

I don't usually buy bakery things. I am glad they are expensive, as I am a cheapskate. I usually make something on the weekend, and it tends to be healthier than the boughten.
Take one bite of those babies and throw the rest in the trash!!!!!! Have something hot to drink instead.

| Good for the will power. That is something I lack a good majority of the time. You can go to the gym all you want but if you don't eat right the fat just won't budge, at least not for me. My real weakness is Cinnabon. We currently live in Japan and when I go to the base and treat myself to lunch it is usually a Subway sandwich (lite of course) but right next to Subway in the food court is Cinnabon. I managed to pass it up the other day, which was one battle won. I guess that is what it takes. Small battles to win the war.

About 10 years ago, I could not pass a bakery without going in and buying something sweet. Then I realized it was the aroma that was attracting me.
With all my will power I would stand outside bakeries, inhaling that aroma, staring in at the displays of sweets. Promised myself if I did this 7 times in a row, the next time I would allow myself to enter the bakery, to purchase one sweet treat. Entering the bakery, still high on the aroma, couldn't make up my mind. What one sweet treat to buy? After a few minutes turned and walked out without a single purchase.
I felt so free and strong! I was in charge not the craving for sweets!

Today is Paczki (punch-key)day up here is SE Michigan. These little Phat Pills are neutronic - they are a traditional Polish pastry that is made on Shrove Tuesday. A giant filled donut that runs about 300 to 450 calories each. I am trying SO HARD not to eat one of the two I brought home. I gave 10 to the neighbors, but kept two.... WHY??????

OH how I feel for you. I"m having one of those days today myself. Nothing looks any better than something unhealthy. I always have a big bowl of popcorn (94% fat free) on the counter but today that just isn't cutting it and I only have enough calories left for a light supper. Hang in there, we'll make it and be glad we did. Wanna go for a walk with my? We will need to bundle up though.

"If you made a batch of muffins, would you eat them all at once? I don't think so"
Yes, I would. Or at least, I would have in the past. I don't even own a muffin pan any longer. If I buy goodies, I try to buy only one portion. Yesterday, I went to a nice candy store and got two bite-sized pieces of good quality chocolate. That was enough to satisfy the craving but I would have eaten more if it was there. I remember times stuffing myself to the point of feeling physically ill and still could not stop eating. I would say to myself, "this doesn't even taste good anymore. I don't want it." But then something would say, "eat it anyway." I'm not insane. I don't hear voices or anything like that, but for some of us, the urge to eat can be overwhelming. I remember when I was taking phen-fen. The thing that was so wonderful was that it silenced the "eat me" urge. I felt so free. I could eat what I wanted when I wanted. I felt free to choose healthy food. If I wanted a milkshake, I'd get one. Then after a few mouthfuls I was satisfied and could stop. Being able to stop was the liberating factor for me.
Another time I had a craving for a piece of chocolate cake that I'd seen at Sizzler. I thought about that cake for months until I finally broke down and had a piece. It was not very good. The worst time was when I had a craving for Twinkies. I absolutely hate Twinkies and couldn't understand why I was craving them. After a few months I broke down and bought a box. They were just as disgusting as I remembered. I share these experiences just to let people know that you aren't alone when it comes to cravings. Some of us are just weird. LOL
It may take longer than a month, but if you consistently choose healthy food, you will find the cravings diminishing somewhat but if you give into them, they won't. I find that eating lower glycemic index carbs is helpful. The high glycemic ones can set up the cravings in some people. If you just can't do it without help, go to your doctor and see if an anti-depressant might help. Some people put on weight with some of them. Each person is different. I lost slightly with prozac--I was nauseated constantly. Wellbutrin helped a little. Others were a disaster. Pamelor (I think that was the one) put 5 pounds a week on me.
Exercise is the best "drug" in my opinion. I don't want to eat as much junk if I've just spent an hour walking or working out. It really helps with the self-control.
Good luck. You have a lot of company.

If you have big muffins cut them in half.
Freeze them have them as a snack if you like, just don't make a meal out of them.
This is not a diet, but a new way of eating, we can have treats from time to time, but don't want to make a meal out of junk food.
Drink your water, you may not ever want that muffin.

If you made a batch of muffins, would you eat them all at once? I don't think so Try some of the muffin recipes on SP. The Pumpkin Muffins or Banana Raisin Muffins are delicous!
Muffins are easy to make from scratch and you know what the ingredients that goes into making them. Besides they are not huge like those inflated store bought ones but they are satisfying to curb a sweet tooth!
