I went off all red meat several years ago, and found it a great help, I don't have near as many flare ups, and at least not too bad. stress is the worse thing for me that flares it up. I eat a lot of chicken and fish. I don't know if there is any merit to the red meat thing, but it seemed to work for me.

| Thanks. Yeah it's hard to stay motivated with the exercise. Intellectually I know that to get better or keep the flares somewhat in check I need to exercise. In theory it's harder to do especially when I'm flaring and my legs ache so badly it hurts to stand. But I did exercise last night. I know that if I do light weights it helps to break up the tension in my neck/shoulders. I'm trying to go to the club 2x a week. I make it at least once a week for sure. My goal is to stick to 2x a week and then try to add swimming on Saturday.

Timetraveler..... Hi, I also am 52 and have fibro. Not easy to deal with at times, but exercise is important. I have been doing the twist every morning for 30 min. but started at 10 min. I am actually enjoying it now!! I can't do a whole lot of exercises as I have had 2 knee replacements, but do what I can. I am finding it very difficult to lose the weight as well, so don't get discouraged, been doing this a month and maybe lost a pound. But the most important thing right now is that I feel better and have more energy. Hang in there!!!

Ya'll are great and so encouraging. Yes, it's definitely better than gaining 13lb. I just started in Stage 3 which is about motivation. I am far more motivated by health than appearance. Exercise and loosing weight definitely gives me more energy! Oh, and it's fun! fun! FUN!

| Yea! Congratulations. You must feel great! It is a slow process that's for sure. I have lost as well...I'm down FOUR lbs now so that means I'm not still gaining/loosing the same TWO lbs that I had been struggling with for the past month. I'm actually down 13 lbs since I started this endeavor last summer. So I totally relate to SLOW weight loss. But, it's better than gaining 13 right???

Well done Skinny! Its such a great feeling when those scales suddenly go down. I've also lost a bit lately - without doubt loosing gives you the motivation, and we just have to persevere during those times when we're on a plateau, & not to loose hope. Congrats too on the birthday! Jackie

Lost one pound! After 6 wks on a plateau, it feels really good. What feels better is that I haven't been stressing about not loosing. I KNEW it wd be a slow process due to my age (54) and having less than 10lb to my goal. Everyone here has given me the support that I needed. AND I feel great. I am getting stronger and have more endurance. Hang in there and we'll make it together.

Well, Happy Birthday, Skinny.
I think the great thing about this site is we learn to guesstimate how many calories we've eaten because we've become so much more aware.
I hope that your day was a special one! .......Make it a great day......kath

Tomorrow is weigh-in day. This weekend was my birthday and I didn't track, but didn't binge either. I probably ate a bit over the top of my calories, but I've been so careful all week that I'm hoping it doesn't make that big a difference. I know that the lessons I'm learning on this site are about more than just weight loss. It's ok, I'm feeling good and my cravings are less. I also need to make a doc's appt to have my cholesterol checked. The proof is in the pudding.

Thank you for the tip jackiev, about adding another day of weights. I appreciate being able to talk and get answers and help from people in my shoes. I am turning 51 in 3 1/2 weeks and I think I will just have to try a little harder. Its great being able to talk to you all and know that I am not alone. I will just keep on truckin. Thanks again

| Thank you everyone for your encouragement. On another group someone also suggested a cd for guided imagery to help alleviate fibro flare ups. Did work out last night, just lowered the intensity a bit and got through it. My sweet hubby massaged my aching neck and shoulders for about an hour last night and it helped tremendously. I'm working hard at posting all of my food. Darn those Sobes. They taste so good but have so many calories!!

TimeTraveler, I think that we all have days when we feel down. Try to take it easy and to use this site as much as you can. Weekends are always my hardest times and I find that by making the time to track my food on the weekend is a big help - keeping a count in your mind isn't the same. Maybe you can ask one of the experts what sort of physical activity would be best for you taking into consideration the Fibro. Take care, Jackie

I sure understand those down days TimeTraveler and I'm sure adding Fibro into the mix doesn't help one bit.
Just keep coming here and putting in your best efforts...I'm sure change will happen, even if it is slow.
Take care and Make it a great day....kath

Hang in there Timetraveler. Read as much as you can of the articles in the Resource Center. Having a disability is a challenge in so many ways, but the only thing we can change is our attitude. Can you work out in a pool? Be gentle with yourself and keep posting. We're all in this together no matter what our situation. You can do it.

Hi. Just found this link while searching the sites today. I'm 52. Started the end of January and have been losing and re-gaining the same 2 lbs for the past 4 weeks. I do the portion control and increased my water. Work out "formally" two times a week. I know it should be more but I have fibromyalgia and that creates its own set of issues. Went dancing on Sat night. I was wrecked Sun through Monday just because of the fibro. So, the weight loss isn't occurring yet and it is very, very discouraging. I log in my food M-F but not on the weekends. But, on the weekends I don't 'pig out' either, just keep a mental running tab in my head. It's really tough...and discouraging. I'd sure like to see some progress. Feeling very down today

I totally relate.
I try to concentrate on the fact that I am living a healthy lifestyle. The weight will come off eventually if I continue the healthy behavior. I think that is why SparkPeople gives points!
I also shake it up as far as exercise is concerned and vary my calories each day -- 1250 one day, 1550 the next, and so on, so that my body doesn't feel like it is starving every day.
Congratulations to everyone on your weight loss!

I am so glad to find you all. I started in the beginning of Jan. I lost 5lb the first week and nothing since then! I'm doing everything they say and then some. Puzgrl, add another day of weights. Building muscle raises metabolism. Since I'm over 50 and with less than 10lb to loose, I know this must be hormonal. I was going to ask the experts, but found your posts. So glad that I'm not alone, but wish we ALL weren't in this position. I am more determined than ever. Let's keep encouraging each other!! we WILL get there. Sorry, gotta run and drink another glass of water lol

| I joined Sparkpeople just over 2 months ago. One of my problems too is that I loose weight so very very slowly! This is such a 50+ problem - it makes it very hard to keep motivated - I mean why bother if nothing happens anyway!! However - I have found that tracking your food has been of the biggest help to me and, yes, I have actually lost weight. It is going slow, but it is happening. We just have to keep at it - tell the fat that its unwanted and eventually it'll go away (I hope!!) Just don't give up hope. I think that the support from others in the same situation has also really helped me carry on.

| Hi. I just joined Sparks BECAUSE I stopped losing. I started about 10 months ago at 300lbs and I am down to 218. I have stayed here for about 2 weeks now. I need help. Any suggestions? I walk n my treadmill 4 times a week, go to the sauna 5 times a week and do weight for 2 times a week. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello! Hope you don't mind me joining in? I started back on an exercise program on 01-10-06,and found Sparks on 02-04-06.Sparks makes it much more fun and tracks everything for me.I started at 213 and am at 201 and have been at 201 for 10 days now.Hit that dreaded plateau, which happens in every weight program,so I'm pushing harder and trying to start to drop again. My goals are to reduce my blood pressure and sugar and reach 170 lbs. by 01-01-07.When I make that I'm taking my wife on a trip she chooses, thats my BIG reward, she deserves it and so do I. Remember don't let the plateaus' discurage you,it's just your bodys way of making adjustments, you just have to work through them,LOL

Hi! Just reading your postings and I feel that it's going slow, too. I weigh in on Mondays and I lost one pound this week and one inch in my waist. I started Feb. 1st and I've lost a total of five pounds and 2-1/2 inches. I guess it's not bad, but it seems really slow to me. But I agree with what you're saying. In general, I truly feel better. Physical and emotional benenfits have come with this new way of eating and drinking water. It must be working. I'm willing to wait for the full benefits if it makes me feel this much healthier! I have more energy and I'm happier during the days. It must be the change of eating habits because nothing else is different in my life at this time. Twizzler

| Me either, but I'm not giving up because I'm here more for the health of it, rather than losing. I guess it would be nice to be thin again, but I'd rather be healthy. The exercise and the nutrition are what keep me going. My theory is that the water I'm drinking can't get away, but that's ok too. My joints feel so much better. I've never stuck to the water this closely before, and I think that is making the difference in a lot of ways, just not losing.

Hi,
I can certainly sympathize. I started in January and have lost 2 lbs. I'm drinking my water, exercising 6 days a week and following the amount of calories recommended by SP. I just feel like nothing is happening with the wt. The scale doesn't move. I'm doing alot of strength training,, but my clothes are not any looser so I'm not sure what's happening with my body. It sure wants to hold onto that fat.
