Ladymendo--

I don't think your posts can go to only one member, but some threads seem to be chatting between friends--but everything seems open and available to everyone. I like that.

I track my foods but don't use the suggested meal plans as I eat mostly vegetarian and have a pantry full of staples to eat up-- but I do put in lots of foods into 'my favorites' so it's easier and easier to list what I've eaten.

Good luck with finding your way!

Yes! I need help getting around this site...Can you reply to individuals without posting to the entire group? and vice versa?

I am trying to figure out your diet plan, as well....

I am usually pretty good at figuring things out, but am struggling with this one. Seems like there is a lot of info to sort through. I am not sure what I am looking for, so not sure what questions to even ask!

Karen, I admire your efforts and success. Keep it up. I too have found that exercise is now enjoyable but I have to sometimes make myself do that first 5 minutes of cardio, then I just don't want to stop.

Are there outdoor trails near your home? As it warms a bit, I'll be walking at least one dog at a time each day. Taking all three would be too much. We have good park areas with the miles set out.

I guess I could have edited my post--I should add I don't get up in the am roaring to do a dvd or tape, I have to MAKE myself do them--but I love how I feel when I'm finished!

Sandy:

I was quite the evening snacker, salty things accompanied by too many glasses of white wine. I put myself on a streak not to drink, and it's been about 4 weeks and the streak is going strong. Now if I eat after dinner it's just to reach my calorie level, and its usually yogurt and fruit, fiber One and yogurt, fruit, etc.

A side result of this is I actually watch much less evening TV. (I think the snacking, wine-ing, and TV went together like some lazy person's package.)

On the exercise front, although I like to hike, I hate road walking, and then would use any excuse not to get out on the trails-- too hot, too cold, too buggy, too much trouble to pack the backpack, etc.

In the last month I've discovered I like exercising-- quite a surprise to me! I do my old video tapes, (barely used Walk Away The Pounds), and am using a few newer dvds. I upped my cardio from 3 days a week to 6 days. I like the strength training too-- And I've done many miles huffing and puffing up hills on trails around my home.

I'm tracking all of this. So maybe its not all truly a new habit yet (If I didn't track the glasses of water, I wouldn't get eight in). But the exercising and dropping the snacking and wine is definitely a change in my life style and I love it!

I have always eaten healthy foods, (except for those evenings), but now I feel so much healthier and fitter, and friends who hadn't seen me for a month noticed I'd lost weight.

I may have to stay on SparkPeople forever, but it definitely has changed my life!

Karen, Please tell us which habits you changed and how you did it. I love to hear about success from others. It motivates me to my own success.

Hi Bev, I think us older humans are definitely in the minority here at SP. Makes you wonder since the older we get the fatter we seem to get. Check in with the boards for fit and over 50 too.

LadyM, Keep at this and I know you will succeed. Going to restaurants to eat has always been a problem for me because I never know what I'm getting. I try to stick to menu items I can figure the calories of easily. I always put my foods into the Food Planner or tracker. I've tried WW before and I think that is a very good way to track calories.

Keep up the good work.

I still haven't figured this site out..Guess that will come.

Like Sandy said, it is hard to believe how quickly life has flown by...one of my biggest problems has been that I still envision myself as a young, thin, sexy 30 year old! That has been most advantageous in a lot of situations (I still put on a bathing suit and wear shorts, can dance up the floor with the younger ones, and am confident when I walk into a room of strangers) BUT, on the other hand, has kept me from really taking a hard look at who I really am...

WAKE UP CALL? I took a horrible fall just before Christmas and dislocated my kneecap. (it is healing, and I can now walk flat surfaces without pain) and I have a large umbilical hernia that needs surgical repair. I am so determined to lose at least 10 pounds a month (I know better than to set unrealistic goals for myself at this point) and am hoping to put off the procedure until June. Iknow I will look and feel better once it is taken care of but am scared to death to go into surgery at my current weight.

I am "counting points" (doing WW plan without attending meetings) and not weighing except on a weekly basis. I travel a lot on my job, and often have to eat out at lunch time, so I am making my mid day meal my big one, unless there is a special occasion and I choose to readjust for the day.

That's all for now.

Good Morning Lady Mendo & All,
I was happy to see your post this morning and
it gave me a good feeling to know that there are others with similar goals and aspirations! I'll be 58 in August and have been blessed with good health, but these pounds have a way of wanting to creep up on me. I don't mind loosing weight slowly and just changing unhealthy habits for good ones to last a lifetime.
I'll be cheering for all of us! It will be more fun if we can do it together!

Hi Lady Mendo.

Well we have two things in common. I'm 60 and I can't believe it either. Time just flew. Just seems like yesterday I was a skinny little 30 year old. Now look what happened.

I will be here for you and I would love to have your support. (I need all the help I can get.) I've got a long road to travel and meeting friends along the way is important to me too.

Hi all
I just introduced myself on the intro board. I turned 60 last year (cannot BELIEVE it!!!) and am one of those people who has yo-yo'd for much of the past 30 years...having lost as much as 85 pounds at one time...

Now, I am starting over...again. I have really come to grips with how important it is to get healthy while there is still time. I have been blessed with good genes, but am now beginning to see signs of long term problems if I don't get this weight off now.

I am hoping to meet new e-mail buddies, make friends, and get support as I travel this road again. In turn, I will be a friend, and offer support to those who travel with me.
