JudiRose, I hear you! The inertia can be a huge obstacle. I battle it everyday. Karen gave wonderful advice about starting small. Sometimes I have to "trick" myself. I'll say, all I have to do is put on my shoes. Then when the shoes are on, all I have to do is put on my coat. Then when the coat is on, all I have to do is go to the door. I only have to walk to the end of the driveway. I only have to walk around the block. and so on. Some days I make it and some days I don't. It's important not to demean myself when I don't as that only makes it worse the next day. I try to stay positive even when I don't do as well as I'd hoped. If I only make it out twice a week, at least that's better than not at all. Is there somewhere within a half mile of your home that you can walk to such as store, a school, a friend's house? The round trip would equal a mile.
BTW, I don't think you are lazy. I think it is your illness. But you can get better. You will get better. I believe in you!

Welcome--
Maybe make your first goals VERY easy--some chair exercises, just moving to a favorite song, walking to a mailbox or the end of a drive or one little block--something you CAN do, and are WILLING to do--
After you've begun, it gets easier--
Good luck. Karen

I just joined today. I am 60. I have put on alot of weight due to mental problems and lots of meds. I can blame the weather for the reason I don't get out and walk. I can blame the mountains ( either your walking up or walking down). But the real reason is I just don't do it. And the longer I don't do it the lazier I get. I do need someone to push me and to talk with . Help
