Diana, I love pink, raspberry, burgundy colours at any time of the year. My mother always told me I should wear pink or red all the time.

Shoes, I agree - mine are flats too. I guess we get smarter with age. LOL

Dear Kali, What color was your dress in March? I had a rasberry dress,[hot pink] last July, and a lot of people thought yuk when I told them what color, but after they saw it they loved it. I ended up getting clear shoes with silver heels [low] and rhinestones. I really liked them, and I was confortable all day and evening. This year the deep pink dresses are all over the place. Also, my daughters color was aqua, hard to find last year but this year its all over. My daughter wanted that color from the time she was 13 years old. She wanted me to wear hot or deep pink. It worked. The only thing was the bridal shop ordered the wrong size. It was so big, so I had to pay for alterations, not fair. If they would have ordered what I requested it would have fit just right. Even after the alterations it was still to big. They kept saying you lost a lot of weight, I said I've lost only 5 lbs. from when the dress was ordered. Oh well a lost cause I guess, I did tell everyone that I could have altered better then the shop. It's over and done, and I need to be quiet. I guess what I wanted to say before I got of the beat and path, was you need the most comfortable shoes that you can find. Talk to you later Kali. Diana

Dear Jackie, Good luck with the family meeting. I just played for a wedding, and the groom planned everything, it was almost a disaster. I had to add my 2 cents worth, but I was wondering if I would ever get home. They took my advice, and it worked. Hope you have a great holiday. Talk to you later. Diana

Hi ladies. Well, I did it again - was out all afternoon shopping with DD. LOL I went to Payless Shoes about 3 weeks ago and bought shoes for wedding but after I tried them with the dress, they looked awful because they were too white. So today, we went back to Payless and I returned the white sandals and bought a pair of silver ones and since it was BOGO - I also bought a second pair.

Left my house at 12:00 noon and didn't get home until almost 6 PM - this time I brought home deli BBQ chicken and salad. One of these days I am going to cook poor hubby a meal.

Tomorrow I am making raviolis. Son and grandson will be here Thursday night and we will have the ravs on Friday night. Busy, busy, busy. Well, I am tired after 2 long days of shopping so I am going to rest.

I had the cutest hot pink shoes for the March wedding... I didn't get to wear my strappy pink sandals... I was smart and because I have bad knees, I also got a cute pear of sequined pink flats. I wore those the whole time at the wedding. Don't know what I'll do with the bran new, never worn sandals.

I saw a clip on one of the cable channels this morning about a new killer workout and I'm buying the DVDs. It's called the bar method (barmethod.com) and it looks tough but good. I'll let you know how I like it.

Hi Diana, I think that that is one of the nice things about this site - the feeling that we have friends all over the world!
This Wednesday is our "4th July" ! Independance Day, & my daughter & hubby-to-be are coming for a bar-b-que. I have decided to talk to them about all the things that I am concerned about. I don't want to feel sorry at the wedding, that I should have spoken up and pointed things out beforehand! I have warned Lee that I have a list! Hopefully we will get things moving and sorted out - we all get on ok so there shouldn't be any problems with that I hope!

Oh my God!!! Kiki - you have been one busy lady!!
I'm exhausted just reading what you have been up to!
And that menu - well, apart from the calories that I've put on just by reading it, it all sounds very lovely.
And yes, it feels fantastic that I have bought my outfit & shoes. It is a load off my shoulders. I have to go back to the shop about 2 weeks before the wedding for any last minute alterations - good ones I hope! When we finalise the menu, I'll post it too!

Good Sunday morning gals.

Well, like a good Catholic, I should be going to Church this morning, but I am too pooped to pop. Here is a rundown of my yesterday. Are you ready???

Up at 7AM - DH is going with SIL to get lumber for a new dock section that was broken apart by ice in lake this winter - got him away then walked 1/4 mile to get the newspaper at end of our road.
11:00 - DH, SIL and SIL's brother get back to my house and I made omelets for them for brunch.
12:00 - left home for mall - 30 minutes away to meet DD, but stopped on way to order flowers for wedding. Arrived at mall and DD was with some of her students for some activity going on there. Stood around there for an hour until it was finished. Walked to Sears to buy DH a new shirt and spent about an hour?? in mall.

3:00 - went to bridal shop to pick DD gown that needed to be taken again - losing weight, from there to a specialty shop downtown to pick up ordered miscellany for centerpieces.

3:30 - to other mall to look for shoes - no luck

4:00 - to pay caterer for dinner $3400.00+ (includes all soft drinks (mix), plastic glasses, server for late evening snacks, bartender.

4:45 - to Walmart

5:30 - to grocery store, apparently SIL's brother's wife and 2 kids (ages 5 & 7) are at my house, so bought hot dogs, sausage and hamburger patties for BBQ.

6:00 - to liquor store - final purchase for wedding

6:45 - arrived home to a houseful. SIL put food on bbq and the girls cleaned up the kitchen.

DH was exhausted and went to bed at 7:30 and the rest stayed until 8:30.

I am getting too old for all this commotion and will be glad when this whole affair is here and gone.

Now my sister tells me that she is having a brunch for us on Sunday morning following the reception. Her daughter and her boyfriend, my son and grandson will be heading home shortly afterwards.

Did I wear you all out? LOL Good, I don't want to be tired all by myself. hee hee

Dear Kiki, Well, never a dull moment in your life!!! Were is the house that your son bought? In Coldwater or a neighboring town? Well working on cuboards is something that I should be doing.[mine need a good cleaning] Sounds like your hubby is getting prepared, it's probably a good thing, something to look forward to. I'll bet your tired after a long day of running around. If my calculation you have one week left, and that will zoom by. Tommorrow you can get excited. Is DD getting excited also? Diana

Dear Jackie, I am actually talking to someone half a world away! Terrific! At least I can kind of vertually go to another country. Well I have been to Canada. But for me to go again I guess I need a passport. I guess I will have to get started on that. It sounds like your outfit is just lovely, like everyone has said already. It would probably make me just a bit nervous if my son-in-law was planning the entire wedding. But I guess God all might has control of things. I really believe that everything will turn out terrific Jackie. Talk to you later. Diana

Jackie, your outfit sound lovely. Don't you feel so much better now that it is off the to-do list.

My daughter and I are going shopping today for last minute things. Every time I think the shopping is over, something else pops up. Oh well, one more week and it is over.

Ah!! A new venture for me. Heard frome my son last night and he bought a house. He sent me pictures and it looks very nice, although a couple of the rooms need a paint job. The master bedroom is purple - he said that room is the first on the list to paint. LOL

He moves in June 1st, so hubby an I are going down to help him move. Hubby can at least drive our truck and I can clean cupboards etc. He and I are also going out to shop for new furniture for living room. Finally hubby and I will have our own bedroom when we visit instead of poor son sleeping on the sofa. Grandson is happy because there is a pool in the backyard. Never a dull moment around here.

Diana - hope your ML is going to be OK. Keep us updated.
Yes, I do live in Israel, the country!
Kiki - it sounds like your plans are going well. I am getting very nervous about our wedding - because the groom is planning it all & I don't want to interfere, but I am worried that he hasn't thought of everything.

Amyway, I had a good shopping day yesterday & delighted because I managed to get it all in one day! After trying on a lot of things in lots of shops that were "nice", I finally settled on something a bit different. Its a black overall ,over which is a long black lace top with lots of pink flowers over it. This really hides any bulges & the pink breaks up the black. The best thing was that it wasn't expensive - just over $100 - I was expecting to pay nearly twice that! I then went into about 4 underwear shops to find the right bra (trying on the overall each time to see that it was suitable!)Got the right bra & then found just the shoes that I wanted in the first shop! So I'm a happy shopper! I wore the shoes yesterday evening to get used to them & they were very comfortable - so that's good too!
6 weeks to go for this wedding & 6 months to the next one.

Well IF we lived in the far frozen north, they'd have been getting married indoors. As it was, it could have rained and we did have a huge canopy over the reception area... but the meadow... oh well.

These things happen. I told my daughter no one will ever forget her wedding. And their honeymoon was in Mexico so they had a good time basking in the sun and thawing out!

I hope everyone else's wedding are picture perfect.

One tip I learned though is not to say the wedding word when talking to potential vendors... ask about a lagre party, NOT a wedding because as soon as they hear the W word, the prices go way up!

We had planned a wedding for 110 people, full sit down dinner, with wine and beer for under six grand. It can be done but it was a lot of work for me researching everything and watching the pennies.

Also, theknot.com is an excellent resource for those who might need a little help.

Dear Jackie, I was just reading your post, are you talking about Israel, the country? I'm sure that everything will turn out alright with the wedding. I know your fears though. When in June is the wedding? I have my finals this coming week, and next. I think that my project went fine, the exams are what is making me nervous. Besides my mother-in-law is in the hospital, so that makes things more difficult. Talk to you later. Diana

Diana, you take care of yourself. I hope your MIL will be fine - I'll say a little prayer for her tonight.

Moneywise, it won't be too bad. We paid half each with DD for Florida and they are helping out with the reception as well. Besides we had the money put away for such an occasion. Thank God.

Dear KIki, It sounds like the final plans are underway. Make sure that you choose the most comfortable shoes, for the reception. It sounds like the guys will like the wedding, no tux's. I wish that I could loose weight more easily. Oh, well I need to be happy with what I have been delt. I got news this morning that my mother-in-law was addmitted to the hospital last night and need to call the hospital to see if I need to go tonight or not. Diana p.s. have fun this weekend, I know it is hard to pay the bills, were still paying ours.

It is now afternoon and my plans for tomorrow are crazy. Am meeting DD at the mall and from there we have many, many errands to run. Two important ones. The first - DD lost more weight and had to have her dress taken in another inch so we are picking it up. And secondly, meeting with the caterer to give final number for dinner, tweek the menu and pay the man. OUCH!!! After that it will be fun stuff like buying hubby a new shirt - the dress code for the wedding is smart casual since the men in the bridal party wore shorts for the beach ceremony and probably again for the reception - so no white shirts or ties. Then we are getting the stuff we need to make the centerpieces and maybe buy me another new pair of shoes - not sure whether or not I really like the first pair I bought.
I think I am finally getting excited for the whole affair.

Good morning All.
Jackie, the outfit sounds gorgeous. From what I hear, pants/trousers are quite popular for weddings now. My sister is wearing them for DD wedding.

Last night my nephew was over and we were putting together the itinerary for the reception. He is to be the Master of Ceremonies. We had a lot of fun and lots of laughs putting it together. He is quite the card and will do an amazing job. One more week.

Hi everyone! First, Karen I hope that your wrist heals quickly. it sounds as if y ou are on the right track.
Kali - I am amazed and full of admiration for you! I now feel better about Lee's wedding! Her's is also to be outside - & the weather should be fine - its the beginning of June here in Israel, it shouldn't rain, it shouldn't be windy & should be the nicest time of the year. It could be extremely hot though. However, Muphy's Law is just waiting to happen!! And, although it wont snow, it could rain & be very windy! This is also a "do-it-yourrself" wedding - with the difference that they are doing it & we are trying our hardest not to interfere- which is getting harder & harder as the day gets nearer - but that too is another long story!
Anyway, I almost bought something to wear today. I tried on a really nice outfit - long flowing black trousers (pants to you Americans!), with a black sleeveless top that had silvery flowery things over it, with a black chiffon thing over that. Very had to describe, but it looked really nice. The top will look even better when I loose those extra kilos. However the chiffony thing ties up over my tummy - and although it looked lovely from the front & from the back, from the side I had this "thing" sticking out, so I didn't buy it - I'm going to go and look somewhere else tomorrow - I may still go back & buy it though.
Diane - hope that you do ok with y our paper.

Good morning all. First of all, Kali, I probably shouldn't have laughed at your wedding story, but, sorry, I did. Here in the northland (Ontario) blizzards in March are a common thing. You poor thing, what a time you had. But, in the end it all worked out and they are married. It only makes you stronger for the next one.

Karen, you are woman, you are strong - wrist surgery on Monday and raking on Wednesday - you go girl. Hope it heals well.

good morning to all!
thanks for all the welcomes.
it is a little chilly here this morning-40degrees right now. should warm up some. then i will take my walk. i had surgery on wrist monday, on one of the major tendons, so till yesterday, i have not had any exercise: did 30 minute walk in the am then weeded, and raked in the afternoon. slept like a baby, but today my wrist is a little sore. (poor baby!)
to switch gears: my daughter is shopping around right now (of course with my help) for a photog, for her wedding, and we are amazed at the prices!!! of course anything having to do with weddings is extremely expensive. i am ready to say:"i will follow you around with our digital camera, and our old camcorder for the day"! if i wasnt the mother of the bride i would!
well, enough complaining, i must get over to the food tracker!have a great day

Jackie -- if I could love the March wedding, I must really love weddings. I did all the planning on a mostly non-existent budget. I paid for more than half and my ex gave them a broken car and called it his share. Nice.

They had to have an outdoor wedding and it had to be on that certain date -- other than that, I had completely free rein. So I looked all over and finally found a lovely place they could afford. I did it all -- flowers, minister, cake, caterer, DJ, photographer, and more... I even fired a bridesmaid (long story.)

This is Southern California but we do sometimes have rain in March so I checked back for FIFTEEN years and there hadn't been any measureable precipitation on that date for that whole time.

Howevere, we got the storm of the century. We got a blizzard, tornado force winds, five FEET of snow, half the guests who couldn't make it... delayes, no DJ (the equipment wouldn't make it up the hill), the photographer slipped in the snow and broke one camera, the minister was in ski boots, people were stuck in the snow on the way up the mountain -- people who'd slowin in from all over. Thank heaven the people from New Zealand made it. The bride was insistent on having the ceremony in the wedding meadow so I trudged down to look at it and I was up to my knees in snow. There's no way some of the guests would have been able to get there and back so we convinced her a fireside wedding was lovely too.

There's lots more, but I don't want to bore anyone. It was lovely and the people who own the place said I took the prize for the calmest Mother of the Bride ever. Like a screaming hissy fit would have done any good.

Anyway, if you'd like a lovely place in the country for a wedding or just a quiet weekend, I highly recommend Angel's Landing in Julian, California. The people there are fabulous, so much so I can't thank them for all they did... They have a website at angelresort.com. There are photos of the wedding meadow (in summer.)

And I still love weddings!
