Hi Nancy, I also really enjoy this site - and have started spending so much time on the computer, that my husband asked me if I was writing a book! I have really got into seeing exactly what I am eating calorie wise every day. It is also good to have contact with others who really understand you. Jackie

Hi all! I have always struggled with my weight - 50-60 pounds up and down constantly. Now, at 53 it is even harder. I lost 60 pounds two years ago. I was listening to talk radio where they were discussing the airlines wanting to charge extra for obese people who take up more than one seat. One of the hosts said, "Well they should charge them - the person is choosing to be fat, after all!" Wow, that really hit me hard and somehow motivated me for the year it took me to lose the weight. I went to Pilates, ate well, and felt so good. I truly believed my struggle had ended. Then my son's drug abuse started getting me down and I went down with him. I have a hard time separating myself from my adult children's' problems. Anyway, I am ready now to start again (gained back the 60 pounds of course). Hope that with support like this board, it can be different! My best wishes to us all! Pam

| I really believe that menopause is such an enormous challenge to losing weight at this age -- finally I have got it almost resolved and it has helped SO MUCH. Now I can concentrate on me!!

Hello Jackie, I can't believe you and I have so much in common. I am going to be 51 in April. My eldest daughter is getting married in April and my goal is to be 20 pounds lighter as I was for her sister's wedding. I related totally to how you are feeling. I never had a problem losing weight whenever I set my mind to it. NOW, it's totally different, I am frustrated as the scale just won't budge. I am new to sparkpeople - only on for a week, but I am loving it. I'm spending every night updating and tracking my calories, and exercise. I am very motivated with this program and I am hoping to get the results I am working towards. I was very pleased to see that you mirror everything I am feeling. Have a great night. Nancy

Hi, I'm 51 and I've been with sp for 3 weeks now. I have also spent so much time and money on almost every diet known - but I find that sparkpeople is really good. I am tracking all my food and find that very helpful to see how much I have eaten during the day and where I make mistakes! But - as I get older it becomes harder to loose weight and yet so easy to put it on. Its depressing, and easy to loose motivation. Its good to chat with others in the same boat! I am spending a lot of time in the evenings on the computer with Sparkpeople - which is good as it keeps me from eating!!! Have a good day everyone! Jackie

| Gald to hear from you. I am trying to take one day at a time and think before I eat. I think I eat out of stress, boredom, and just because its there. I have tried and found that often I seek food but I don't really need it. I am trying to keep my hands busy with knitting etc and of course SparkPeople. So hang in there.

I wish the best for all of us on this journey to get healthier! 50 @ 50. Yes, you can do it!

| I always look forward the milestones as I age and 50 was no different. Even though I am still struggling with the weight I am accomplishing other things in my life that I never thought I would be doing at 50. I do have high blood pressure as a result of the weight, but so far I don't have any other health problems. I'm hoping this will be the year I shed 50 pounds - 50 at 50, that would be great.

| Like you Carol, I have spent a lot of money on different diet plans and I've decided to stop spending. My daughter told me about this site and I think it's just what I need, so here I am.

I would look at older women and think, "I'll never get that heavy when I get to that age." Ah, ha, I am now 57 and am obese. I have tried other plans, sounds familiar, huh, but I have. A friend of mine and I figured we've spent loads of hard earned money on plans that didn't work, or we just honestly didn't do them because they weren't "doable" if that's a word. Now I'm here and I feel so good because the boards are so very, very active, and the meals are with real food. I have had a trial run today and am recording the food I've eaten and was fine until I was cleaning the kitchen and ended up eating 4 oatmeal cookies and probably 8 or 9 sugar wafer cookies. Wow, what a wake up call when I saw the totals so far. I'm here for help and to give help! Carol

Hi there, Being 50 is great because a new phase of life starts. At first it was scary but I am now 58 and I am happier now than I have ever been. I am glad to see you losing weigh and I wiah I had because I am now suffering the effects of not losing weight. Its funny we always think it will be the other person but I ended up being the other person. So I am now fighting to get the weight off and hopefully correct the health problems as I lose the weight. So keep going it is worth it.

Hey Joycelyn, Welcome to the big 50. I hit it last year. I have about 30 pounds to lose. I can generally get there, but like many woman have trouble keeping it off. It has been harder the older I get. Hang in there. Since being 50, I have enjoyed the few senior citizen discounts available, free coffee at a few places. That is about the only "50" change in my life.

| My name is Joycelyn and I'm new to SparkPeople and I made 50 this month. My goal 2 years ago was to lose 100 pounds by the time I made 50. Well, guess why I'm here! I lost about 30 pounds and maintained that loss until this past year when I gained them all back. So, I'm trying to get back on track utilizing this program.
