Appreciate your good wishes on my test, thank you. Everyone tells me not to expect to drop an ounce, even after all the prep, oh well. Looking forward to getting back to my healthy eating or just eating would be nice. Enjoy those veggies!

|
| I, too, wish you luck with your colonoscopy. I have to have them, too. I did not lose an ounce this week. I will have to make more of an effort next week. I am not doing as well as I had hoped. Good luck to all!!! They have some great 100 calorie packs out now. Maybe they will help you with the munchies!!! I keep lots of veggies peeled and ready to eat.

Good luck with your scope. I got the munchies again today so I really have to stop keeping things in the house for the grandkids They will just have to eat healthy just like me Make sure you are healthy before trying to lose weight.

Jaellyn--
Yes, I think it is getting better. My sister teaches an out-door class at her school, and she says every bit of exercise will help me get up the hills--even the low impact cardio in front of the TV.
I found a trail today that gradually goes uphill for a mile or so--well, mostly gradual-- I may see if I can work toward doing it slowly, but without having to stop!

Kwonset, I also have lung problems. I have COPD and find I have to take it slowly at first with any exercise. I started very slowly on the treadmill and am steadily working up to longer and faster times. The breathing does get easier the longer you pursue the cardio exercise. I think it helps to strengthen the lungs. Hang in there...you can do it.

| Hello all I have not posted for a few days as I have been a little busy and can't get my husband off the computer!!! Anyway I have lost another pound. That makes 5 for the last four weeks. Monday is a new week and maybe I will be two lbs lighter this new week. Hope you are all doing well. I am leaning new ins and outs of this site all the time. And its a great helper if your having any problems. Cathy

Looks like we're all in the same boat . We can do this together. Welcome

| Welcome aboard. I hope we all get thin too. This is the start of my third week here. I know I need all the motivation I can get especially where exercise is concerned.

|
| I just joined Spark People this morning. I am 63 and have gained lots of weight due to prednisone and quitting smoking. I hope all of us will get thin and strong by helping each other. I hope I am welcomed into your group. I do need the motivation. Thanks.

| I agree with you on the exercise. I walk on my treadmill but not as often as I should. I have resistance bands but for some reason just can't get myself motivated to use them. Anyone have some good ideas on motivation to exercise?

| I will soon be 59 so hope you all won't mind my joining in to the over 60's discussions. It seems out of all the boards this is the one that I relate to most. I am having great difficulty with the exercise regiment. I am trying to at least walk a bit each day but just can't do anything but stare at the dumbells. Help!!

Yes, I know that if we stay with the exercising and eating properly, we will eventually see the results that we hope for in our future. After all, that what we need to be doing anyway....
Good luck everyone and have a great week.
Time to smile and be happy!

| Sounds like consistency is another one of those keys to remember.

GloEllen: I'm 63 and my joints aren't so bad it's my lungs. I have either compromised my breathing at some point--or possibly, my lung capacity will improve as I lose weight! I hope it's the latter!
I can't afford a gym but try to do workouts at home and have dumb-bells,dvd's, etc--and since starting SparkPeople, I actually enjoy it. And the weight is slowly moving down! Good luck, andkeep going to the health Center! We just have to keep at it!!!

I am so happy to see others who are having some of the concerns and issues that I have. I find that it isn't as easy to lose those extra pounds the older I get. At one time,I could drop and maintain my weight without much trouble, now that I am 68, it is a real problem..Otherwise I am in good health and feeling good. My greatest problem are my terrible knees. (Going up and down stairs is very painful.) I have been walking in the neighborhood but I wasn't that consistent because of the weather: too cold, too windy...Excuses! So I have joined a Health Center and working on cardios that I can do..Feeling much better about myself and my goals. Are there others that are in the same boat? lol

Ah Ha...Portion Control!!! That's key to this. I have a huge appetite, love my pasta and breads. But there is nothing wrong with a nice piece of chicken...2 veggies and a salad. I can live with that! I love butter too...but have definately cut back. I tried the "I Can't Believe it's Not Butter" spray. It isn't great...but I can live with it.

My nutritionalist told me to limit red meats. I eat 2 meals with chicken, 2 fish and 2 red meat per week. And then maybe once a month I throw in a pork. I cut way back on potaotes and pastas, like 1 per week, one or the other. Then add a cooked veggie and fruit every day and salad. And then the 8 glasses of water are a must. Oh, and portion control is the key. It's not for everyone, but it works for me.

I don't know what type of food you eat, Jaellyn, but what has helped me is to add another vegetable to my dinners (lunches are usually salads, soups, etc) -- so I may have broccoli and green beans, half a sweet potato and kale and yellow squash--plus a protein 'main dish'
I cook a lot of vegetables al dente in the microwave, and season with something besides butter. I often choose the veges based on color---they are sometimes frozen, but often fresh.
Don't know if that would help you fill up with less fat!

| I am 63 and giving it a real try this time. My husband goes to the gym 3 evenings a week so I have started to go with him. I am still working full-time so getting there 3 nights a week has been a struggle but DH is very supportive and that really helps. My biggest problem is quick low-fat meals. Suggestions anyone?

I think we have all been there and done that. I know I have, but we have to let it go and start over. Tomorrow is a new day and you can be back on track. Sometimes the way food is avertised and listed in menus is misleading. I have learned to do my homework before going out to eat so I know what to order. You'll be fine just remember tomorrow is a new day.

I really got a lesson in emotional eating last night. In the first place I went to Red Lobster with a friend, and although I thought I knew what to order to keep calories down, when I really assessed the damage, I had eaten more than I expected. Then I came home and was going to track my food and discovered my computer was down. I tried to get it going to no avail, and the longer I worked on it the more frustrated I became. And guess what? I started eating--2 fudge bars, and probably 5-6 T. of peanuts. I knew it was stupid, but I just couldn't stop. This morning I have the guilts, but fortunately I've really tried watching my intake of food. Maybe I'll get by with little damage, if I truly watch the rest of the week. Isn't it something the way emotions can take over? I guess part of the program is learning to control our emotions and emotional eating. "Keep focused, and don't give up" will have to be my mantra. Thanks for listening. Kennabecka

I'm 62, and trying to drop the extra weight so I can hike. I can move along fine when it's pretty level, but struggle up the hills. SP really is helping, but it will take a while--
I am so surprised to find I like exercising--but it'll be harder when I open my shop again in March.

Weigh in today. I stayed the same as last week but that was with little or no exercise. I was in the hospital with pneumonia two weeks ago, and am just now getting my strength back. This week I should be able to add exercise, and with that and staying on the diet, I should see a change next week. The main thing for me, and probably all of us, is to keep a positive attitude, stick with the program, and use the resources available on this site. We've got lots going for us. Good luck this week.
