I am glad to see some familiar names here: June and Aunt Bee. I was a drop out for several months and only gained one pound. That gives me hope that I can lose if I restart SP. Of course, I might just be at my set-point, because I have been at this weight since last April. Cheri

Is it too late to join your group girls? I am 58 but don't feel like a senior just yet even though I fear it is true. I have just joined the "30 pounds by 1st June" challenge and am looking for all the inspiration I can get.
I am weighing in for the moment of truth tomorrow morning. Tracked my calories today and totalled 1646 cals for the day, which is not to bad since I was at my parents' for lunch.
I am a yo-yo girl from way back and want to get off the cycle and start to lose weight for good.
Work in Mental Health Hospital as admin staff in the Intellectual Disablity and Older Persons areas. It is a great place to work.

Happy New Year everyone! Isn't it nice to be able to start over every year. I still have a lot of baggage to get off this year, but I feel good about it. I need help with motivation. Aunt Bee is an inspiration, losing 28 pounds. I want to be able to do as well this year. Let's all help each other stay on track.

Have a safe trip AuntBee,
Good morning everyone.I have been down for 5 days with a cold, today is my day of freedom. I belong to TOPS,OA and a gym. I am off to the gym in an hour. The joy of retirement is seeing my friends and doing something for me without the timecard. I worked at Childrens Hospital for over 20 years, loved it, but it got rough after so long. I lost a son to cancer in 1975 and that was something I did to fill the void. Now after caring for my son, father and mother all with cancer I get to play. My DH and I live in NW WA, Gods country and we enjoy each day. I am glad I found SP, they really have a lot of interesting information and help for us. I have been bad the past few weeks and now I need to get busy and get some of this weight off. Glad you are all here. Have a grand day. Susan

Hello there ladies, I have been busy packing and repacking my suit case, getting ready to go to CA on the 17th of this month. My daughters are comming over tomorrow. Michelle is bring dinner. Will be a special get to gather before I leave.

I am so very blessed, haveing such beautiful young adults in my life. There were times when I had some wonder, to whether they would make it to adult hood, they use to fight, scarred me half to death.

Hope to be able to get on line while I am gone.

This site has places for just about anything, from tracking foods, to weight, to exercise. Go to the home past and search around. Personally, I like tracking my food, rather than taking the foods the site gives me. I have done that for a week, entering every think I eat, and then seeing what I do well, and what not so well. That is where I learned that my "normal" day consisted mainly of carbs. So, I decreased my carbs, keeping my calories at around 1000 to 12000. This forced me to increase fruits and veggies. I also increased my protein since I have heard that increasing protein helps in weight loss. Check it all out. You can also create your profile from the home page too. All in all, I am really a believe in what this site has to offer.

As a hospice nurse, although you have your 12 hour shifts, you also have some really nice "time off", so I would concentrate on using that time well, for exercise and all. I commend your work. I did hospice volunteer work for about a year. When my mom died, we had Hospice in for 2 months and those folks were sooooooo wonderful. I will be forever grateful for their support, help, love, compassion and saving our family. I only wish I had called them sooner. I cared for my mom, 24/7 for 19 months prior to her death. When the docs gave us the 6 month notice, and I just wish I had called Hospice at that time. When I retire, I plan on going back in to hospice volunteer work again. Right now, I am woking in the field of mental illness, and my days are just too full to do hospice work now.

Well...I'm out the door. Have a great remainder of Saturday.

Aloha, June

Ok buddy. We can encourage each other. I have a lot more to lose than you do though. I'm thinking of weight watchers or tops. The only problem is ......I'm a hospice crisis care nurse and never know the days I'm working. I usually do 3 days a week, but never know which 3. My job requires 12 hr. shifts and most of the day I'm sitting in the patients room. That is the bad part of my job..the sitting. I'm open for any tip you can give me. I find that starting the diet is worse and when I'm home for a boost, I do one meal a day. it's a nice meal with a small desert. I don't feel deprived and it boost my weight loss. I try to do this the first day of my diet. I've also found that I can't seem to lose weight unless I feel hungry at the end of the day. I'm not sure why. Send tips my way if you can! Thanks for the support. Oh a couple of questions...Is there a place to record our daily weight here and how do I set up a profile? thanks again

I'm up to anything to help us achieve our goals. And yes, we are starting to see the large amounts of "goodies" appear at our work from families thanking us for caring for their loved ones!!! Gads.....every single day we have Goodies on our kitchen table. That is a downfall for me.

Also, I have trouble making myself take the time to exercise. My days start our by walking out of my door in the morning about 5:45 or 6:00 a.m. I end my work day around 5:30 p.m. and return home around 6:30 p.m. I am exhausted. I need an exercise plan. Now at work, I am up and about and walk about 6000 steps or more. I still need to devote 30 minutes after work, just for exercise.

I'm up for a buddy system.....let's think how we can help one another.

Aloha, June

P.S.: A good friend of mine followed the weight watchers point system. She just HAD to have a sweet treat each and every day, and she did. Counted it in on her points. Every day she had her morning pastry, and was able to lose 30 lbs in 3 months!!! Can't beat that. So denying oneself that special thing may not always be the answer. I try to limit my carbs as carbs seem to trigger wanting to eat MORE carbs for me. I can have a bowl of low carb ice cream and not want to eat the entire tub, which is good.

My biggest challenge is a sweet husband who loves to cook. His first question is .....Where's the crisco? He is a southern born man and loves those fattening meals. The holidays are coming quickly and lots of Goodies that are hard to resist. I'm going to try to figure out my own private point system to motivate me. I've got lots of clothes that I can't wear and that suks! Ok. Who of us seniors are up to the buddy system to help get thru the goody glorified holiday?

There was a ladies' Christmas party at the church tonight. You should have seen the table of holiday baking. It was sooo tempting. That was my first party of the season but there are more events coming up. It will be a challenge to stay away from sweets. They have always been my downfall.

hugs,

It's FRIDAY!!! I am so glad for the weekend. It's been a busy week at work and I am finding myself tired each evening when I get home. Looking forward to spending some time with grandkids this weekend - taking in a movie and taking them out to somewhere different for dinner. Then a sleepover, and maybe the beach.

I am still recovering from my oral surgery and am now able to eat some regular foods. I had lost weight after the surgery and was hoping to keep it off, but once I began to eat even a small amount, the weight is creeping back up. Gads....what a never ending journey this weight loss is.

Hope everyone has a great Friday. What's on your agenda for the weekend?

Aloha, June

I am at work now, but the snow sure sounds delightful!! It's been years and years since I've seen snow!! I just love it on the very first night, when all is quiet, and if there is a full moon - can't get much better than that.........

Brings back some pleasant memories of when I was living on the mainland!! Of course, I also love being near the Ocean and tropical weather year round. We are heading into Winter here in Hawaii, and believe it or not, I am sleeping with a comforter as it is getting down in the low 70's during the nights. It will get to a chilly 60's in January, and that is "freezing" for us.

Today has been a good day for keeping on track. Actually, I've been too busy to even think of eating and now that work is almost done, I realize that I am absolutely starving. Been here at work since 6:30 a.m. and have gone non-stop, no break, no lunch, no nothing!!

I could eat a cow.....moo moo moo.

Lator gators, have a great evening. June

Hi Everyone,
It has been snowing here in NW WA all day.It never got over 34 which means bad ice in the morning. I am so thankful I am retired. I am new to the group and am looking forward to meeting you all. I have at least 30 pounds to drop for health reasons and hope to get a lot of support along the way. Have a great evening. Susan

Hi everyone. June I loved your words of wisdom. I needed that today. I had a good day and now am headed home. I hope I don't give in to temptation. I plan to attend a yoga class tonight to help me relax and focus on eating the right foods. yoga is great. I enjoy it so much. I wasn't sure about doing yoga at first but I found I really enjoy it. I make more time for myself now that the kids are grown. I can't use the excuse that I don't have time to cook anymore because the girls are gone and now I have time to cook. I use to eat fast food 2 or 3 times a week. It was easy. Now I don't touch it unless it is a salad or something from Subway. Lowfat of course. Anyway I'm headed home have a great evening. Talk to you tomorrow

Aloha and Good Morning to everyone!!

Slow at losing weight? No energy for much needed motivation? Not caring enough about ourselves to stay on track? Sounds familiar to me!!!

I work in the mental health field, and believe me..all these things are real and happen to us all at one time or another. Personally, I firmly believe that the aging process plays some tunes on us that need an expert to fix. So, I'll save us all some bucks and fill you in on some well known facts:

1. Exercise helps our minds, bodies & spirits
2. Laughter helps our minds, bodies & spirits
3. Positive interaction with other humans helps our minds, bodies & spirits

And guess what? They are all "free"!!! And just a little each day of each will show results that are amazing!!

That's my wisdom for the day. Yesterday I visited my dentist as I recently had some major oral surgery, and he commented to me that although I have had some major stuff done, I have always appeared in his office with a smile and some laughter, and he thanked me for bringing some cheer into his chair!! Boy did that make me feel good....also made me realize how much happier I am when I am thinking about the positive things in my life.

So, that's my goal for today. Have a great day everyone..........

P.S.: As a result of this major surgery, I have dropped 6 lbs!!! Now if I can just keep it off.

I am really having trouble, making my self do the things I need to do to make my daily goals. Like, I just don't care about my self enought to spot doing things that, robe me of success. To much time on my hands and feeling sorry for my self I guess.

Will write more later. Let my hands, rest they are falling to sleep.

I think we all can relate to how slow the weight comes off at our age. The thing to remember is not that it's a number we need to achieve, but a small goal each day will add up to long term goals. When I first starting going to the gym I hated it. So I set small goals and each week I became better and felt better after my workouts. Now I hate not going to the gym. I work out 3 days a week 50-60 minutes on cardio. I feel good and my blood pressure is normal again. I haven't lost a lot of weight but dieting for me was not just about weight loss. I am healthier and now I want to get skinner.

Take care all of my diet buddies. Have a great day.

Good to see people here. I don't know what is the "wall" some of your run up against, but for me, it is starting then stopping, then starting and stopping again. If I would just start, take this one day at a time, and if I get off track, do not throw in the towel.

It's been a good few days. I have been entering my foods, staying within my goals. My exercise needs some work on, but for now, my daily goal for a bit is to stay within my calorie range, and have a balanced diet.

I do get a bit of exercise each day at work as my job is quite active. So, today, I consider myself as having met my daily challenge.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Aloha, June (p.s. - hope ou enjoyed our beautiful Islands!!)
