| So good to hear from you MISSPAM. Would you like to get into a supportive group. You can set your own goals there besides the basic stuff we have. I'd like to hear from you regularly. Go to "other groups"/ALL4LOSIN2006....we are looking for new people to energize us.

1234Mom,
Hi! I have been off work for a couple of weeks again. vacation this time. I am trying to get back to exercising and it isn't as easy as I thought it might be. I feel better so I think I can be normal! Wears me out fast. All is going well though. Still having to get up every hour and move. I think everyone should do that anyway.
Thanks for looking out for me.

| Hey Pam I'm so glad your surgery was successful! I was confident but it wasn't MY hip. It will be great to hear about your progress. Keep moving...sitting is not a good thing for now.

Hello 123MOM! Im back! Doing pretty good. I was out for 6 weeks. Still a little sore. Sitting all day is not my favorite thing either but the surgery went very well. I still have a few limitations, but all and all I have no complaints. I can walk without limping and a great deal of pain for once. The x-ray looked just like the picture in the brochure they gave me. Technology is a wonderful thing.
Thanks for checking up on me. I look forward to getting back to chatting with everyone.

| MissPam - you've been out a while...hope everything is okay. You're probably working hard at walking and sitting is for very long is still a no no. Let me know when you're back.

| MissPam I hop all is going well for you. I will be looking forward to you checking in here so I can root your progress on as you recover. Even sitting at a computer is going to be difficult for you because you won't be wanting to get at that 90d angle.

| Dad is doing very well. He is walking 30 min a day now without pain and is cleared to go in the hot tub...he'll like that.

Hi Linda,
How is your Dad doing now? Is he glad he had the surgery done?
I have not had much luck with getting the exercise in that I had hoped, but I am ready for the surgery. It seems that with all that needs to be done at home to prepare, work has suddenly developed a need for me to get 6 work days out of a 4 day work week. Every one wants a piece of me. I am so overwhelmed this week I can't even begin to tell you. I need the rest! I am still looking forward to the replacement. I have not been on any pain meds for almost two weeks. It is not as bad as I thought it would be, but of course, there are no handicap parking spaces close to the building I work in, so walking in from the parking garage takes me about 15 minutes. That is the hardest part of the day. I have been taking Allieve and it takes the edge off and I am ok with that. I have to spend today and tomorrow packing my things at work as they are relocating my group to another location (much further than I drive already) while I am gone. I get to look forward to unpacking after I get back. I am so ready for this. Hopefully I will be able to check in another couple of times before Tuesday. Thanks again for the support.

Pam

Can't wait for you to get this operation, it should really change your life. Do keep your weight down so you can continue to exercise to the max when you feel better!
I just helped my dad through back surgury for persistent pain in the legs and back. This pain was immediately gone, of course he was really stiff in the back for a week. Trading pain for the temporary discomfort will pay off.

Thanks Kathy, Linda.
Less than 13 days to go. I did actually get some lower body workouts done on Monday. Went to do some pull downs for the arms only to find out that my Hubby added WAY to much weight on there. Couldn't even budge it. Going to try again tonight to do some other things. I had every side affect known and written about Tramadol yesterday. I think some of the meds were backed up in my system so I was nauseated, dizzy to the point of black out a couple of times, exhausted and slept all day and went to bed at 9:30 last night. Tried not taking the Tramadol anymore but was in major pain just laying in bed at 10:30. Haven't had any since 3:30 a.m. this morning but will have to take some again before long. As going to call the Dr. to see if he can give me something else to tide me over until the surgery. I will be glad when I don't have to take one bit of meds except vitamins.

Hip surgery now days isn't bad, We get you up the next day and start to walk the second day. You are out of the hospital in 3 days. If you do good you go home for rehab or go to a rehab place for a week. Just remember pain medication and just do it. You use all upper body muscles. Don't forget to donor you blood before surgery or a family that had the same Rh blood. I'm a nurse who works on a hip/ knee floor. I had 2 knee replacement done. Both at the same time I was back to work in 3 1/2 months. At you age you should be fine. Take some tums with you it help with the up set stomach after surgery I ate 2 bottles full in the hospital. Good luck take your pain medication as order.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! The Dr.'s office gave me a tabbed booklet with everything I could possibly need to know about the surgury. I was very impressed. The Dr. and his assistand also spent time explaining what to expect.
I didn't exercise one bit this weekend. I don need to get it done myself. I seem to do better that way anyway. I WILL get started today. I am getting down to the wire and need to get going.
This week I will be getting all of the things I need for the house, like the potty seat, walker/cane, long sponges and scrubbers for the shower along with a bench for the shower and shoe/sock helpers.
I will let you know what I get done as I get it done!
Thanks again for the support!
Have a great day.

| MissP were you advised to get a potty seat that puts you higher than normal, with bars on it. My mom was told not to bend those hips to 90d for a bit. She still has hers and uses it all the time - only because she had polio as a kid and she is too weak to get out of the 90d position. She gets really mad when people use the handicap public toilets and they don't have a problem. She has actually gotten stuck sitting on the pot in public places because she couldn't get off...lol. A very nice Costco employee once crawled under the door to help her up. This won't happen to you - she is 83 and weaken from polio, radical mastectomy and other stuff. She really gets around pretty good for all her problems and she swims almost every day.

MPam I'm not sure why you need your husband to help you with the fitness part....You need to do it on your own. You certainly didn't need him to get those 17 lbs off did you? You will need him to help out while you are down...be sure he knows how to shop for the right foods and that he delivers you salads two times a day with whole grains to go with. I have a friend who was laid up for 3 months and she lost quite a bit of weight. Much of it was muscle though.
Well...as you can see you will get tough love from me but I do wish you the best and I know you will get through it just fine.

Hi everyone and anyone. I am starting this thread to track my progress in getting ready for a total hip replacement. I have just two weeks to do a little strength training. My husband has offered to help, but has been to busy so far. I have not done much myself, so I have set up the first goal:
By Monday, 10-3, I will have done strength training on upper body tonight and Sunday, along with lower on Saturday and Monday. You should expect for me to post on that on Monday.
I have lost 17 pounds since February. I want to lose 4 more before the surgery. I gained a couple while on vacation last week, but I know what I have to do to take care of it. Relatives are sure a bad influence! (I'm such a weakling). The Doctor said for someone as fit and trim as me (wanted to kiss him) it should take me about 4 weeks to be up am moving pretty good. My weight watchers goal was 155 (where you don't have to pay anymore) and I made lifetime last night. My goal is 135. I know it will be a challenge after the surgery because of the limited amount of exercise I will be able to do.
I will appreciate any encouragement that comes my way and try to log in and post as much as possible. My computer is downstairs, so it might present it's own challenge for the first couple of weeks. If you don't hear from me, don't worry because I will be back. This sight has been a saving grace for me. It has given me a new outlook on health and well being. The support and people I get to talk to is the reason I can continue to move forward. Makes my day everyday!
Pam
